Aww man how can you say that song has bad lyrics, when I first got the Downward Spiral I didn't really like that song, but after a few more listens it's just like, woa cool song and comically good lyircs :thumb: Plus he written some amazin lyrics, something i can never have, so simple, yet so moving.
*covers ear.... eyes*
You're not helping man...
But its really that good? How do you think it stands to his other work?
It's great. It is not as good as some of his other work, but it's still excellent. The way the album flows together is perfect.

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth

Okay...I've given it the old once through.

Do....
not....
like....
it.

Every song sounds exactly the same. Same tempos crawling in the 90's to 110's save for a couple tracks, same instrumentation, same treatments on all vocals and drum sounds, and worst of all in it's delivery...same pathetic stabs at doing hokey pop-enunciations on the vocals.

"WITH..AHHH-Teeth-AHHHH"

WTF?

The programming sounds really stripped down, and I know it was supposed to be like that, but in the finished product, it comes off sounding amateurish and rushed. Usually NIN albums present some new synth or weird distortion on the guitar that you've never heard before, usually they rewrite the manual for softsynths or hardware pieces, but here everything sounds like either a rehash of previous albums, or an unabashed ode to this crop of "retro" rock going around the last few years. I'm not sure if when Trent explained the simplified nature of this album that he was not really obfuscating the phrase "run out of ideas"

There were a couple of songs where I could almost envision some fat middle aged guy who hasn't gotten the point that he'll never be a rock star or that his lyrics are not deep clanging away on the karaoke mic.
Then there are others, of course led by the atrocious "The Hand That Feeds", where I almost wanted to synch up my hips in a giant swaying motion and chicken neck in a mockery of ****-rockist athemism at it's worst.

WILL YOU BITE? THE HAND? THAT FEEDS YOU?

seriously....it sounds like he's actually expecting you to answer the question.

Yeah Trent, my teeth are gnashing and my emo-cut locks are flailing in unison.
Feel that portamento preset!!!!
RAARRRGGH!!!
*slams mic down*

The only redeeming portion of this album IMO is the two song block of "The Line Begins to Blur" and "Beside You In Time" which sound like a much needed reach back to classic NIN song structure, and a strange departure into uber-compressed and laid back trance respectively...but all that is rendered moot when the closing track intrudes a few minutes later with it's mopey generalizations and gimicky crowd samples that seem plucked straight from the blueprints of a 1999 Hard House Anthem. If the writer of the ubiquitous, and ultimate song of self-pussification "Children", Robert Miles, got together for a leisurely evening of decor and gardening tips with Trent Reznor, this would be the result....and unfortunately.....must have been.

Sorry, but I'm not gonna cry just because you have a piano and some filtered vocals.

if I could give out lashings with a rattan cane to denote my displeasure with an album, you can bet Trent Reznors *** would hurt worse than a Singaporian vandal.

The final observation I gleaned from the 50 minutes I now believe I wasted listening to this "album" is this...

There is only one thing worse than someone who writes formulaic, overly accessible music...

someone who tries to and fails.

Gave_Up 04-15-2005 01:58 PM

woa thats quite some rant,i'm rather disturbed after reading that, yet you say you dont like the hand that feeds so **** knows what qaulity the rest of the songs are...and i doubt it can be that bad,its trent fukin reznor

For making a thread about AH's horse cock wasn't it?

ToRidTheDisease 04-15-2005 02:15 PM
Hey shut up Josh. It was for a funny reason.
What reason?

ToRidTheDisease 04-15-2005 02:17 PM
Well, there's this joke in the community thread that the user AH has a horse c0ck. I made a thread in the Pit entitled, "ITT: We discuss AH's Horse C0ck." He reported me to the mods as a joke, and the mods took it seriously and I got a 2 week ban.
 Nice. Anyway, on subject, do you have With Teeth?

Six Foot Revolver 04-15-2005 02:18 PM

I would definately rather wait than download it

Raider 04-15-2005 02:20 PM
Yeah, don't listen to this guys view on it.
Yeah, cause if my view doesn't coincide with yours, something's gotta be wrong here!

The album blows. Repetitive, completely uninspired, poorly mixed (by NIN standards), lyrically uncreative and completely cliché, it's the biggest musical dissapointment of the 2000's so far. Sure, it has a few catchy pop lines, but there is a serious lack of substance. Better luck next time Trent.

ToRidTheDisease 04-15-2005 02:22 PM
No. I want to restrain myself from downloading the leak.
It's so easy just to IM me and I could send it to you.

(evil, I know)

You just don't get NIN I guess.

Wrong. As someone who's been listening to NIN since Pretty Hate Machine, I've always had a lot of love for Nine Inch Nails. I own the 17 Halos and have always had a great amount of respect for Reznor. I'm not a fanboy though, there's nothing to "get" here, it's pure regurgitated, uninspired trash, save for a few fleeting moments.

Raider 04-15-2005 02:31 PM
Whatever you say, chief. I bet the album rules.
Go ahead and blind yourself with forced optimism before you've even heard the music. If you convince yourself it's good, maybe you'll enjoy it regardless of the actual music, right?

Right..... The album is amazing though. Great lyrics, great music, it's just basically perfect.

Josh: No no.. Even though I download many albums.. I can't download this one. I would feel really bad.. because I've come this far without downloading it.. I must not. Do not tempt me, for I shall send my wrath of holy.. ..... um... NIN.... on.. you. ...
Alright, I won't tempt you anymore, but if for some reason you want to get it, just ask.

Raider 04-15-2005 02:34 PM

Well at least we know Trent isn't gonna be out in the cold this year, as long as there's still an army of fanboys running around to lean against.

Elz`Guitar` 04-15-2005 02:43 PM

I've got the album preordered and I've been listening to the leak for 2 days now. Not really sure what to make of it. I guess I was hoping for something fitting the calibur of TDS or The Fragile. There's some catchy lines in here and good moments, but that's not really what I listen to Nine Inch Nails for. There's about 3 songs that I enjoy, the rest seem a bit bland..

NIN is my second favorite band and I was really hoping that Trent would come through with another mind blowing offering of great music to listen to, love, analyze, and appreciate. The lyrics dont appeal to me as much as Trent's other offerings, and there's a lot of areas where the music is almost a chore to get through. I'm dissapointed but at least I'll get to see NIN live soon, and I'm pretty sure they're not losing any ground in that area.

Gave_Up 04-15-2005 03:03 PM

This bad press is scaring me,you guys are **** sukers for listenin to a leak and then getting people set for dissapointment before the albums out, fukers :upset:
May third will be a great day for me.
The new ryan adams cd comes out that day, and I'm also seeing ryan perform the same day, on top of the fact im getting the nin cd and i'll have something to look forward to when i see nin live the next week.

I win :)

Magicaltroll 04-15-2005 03:16 PM

Who's Ryan Adams?
And all this bad stuff about the CD... is... bad. Very very bad.
Who's Ryan Adams?

seriously?

he's kind of an alt-country/rock/indie kind of guy, most of his stuff sounds 70s' ish. Not really anything to do with nin except his new cd comes out the same day and im seeing them both at the same place

misunderstood 04-15-2005 03:34 PM

I was just at the official NIN site and there's some file there for download (under the "current" section) that Trent thinks Mac users will find interesting....Wonder what it is...Anyone have a mac and willing to download?...Then of course, let us know what it is. :)

TrainTakeMeHome 04-15-2005 03:41 PM

Ok , I've been listening to the leak for a couple days as well now, and I've heard a lot of bad stuff abotu the record. I actually found it pretty **** good musically - (so far 5 songs that i really like, and the rest I'm sure will grow on me like every other NIN album). I also enjoy it when I'm stoned, which always is the real test of how good it is. ;)

Kage 04-15-2005 04:32 PM

Everyone who downloaded the leak can take their fucking criticims out of this thread. I'm not interested in hearing this. When the album comes out, bash it all you want, but don't try to start ruining it for the rest of us.

There'll always be people that don't like it, of course, but we're not impressed by you people who are so ready to jump the gun and prepared to actually not like something from one of their "favorite" artists that they'll take the slightest weakness and blow it up.

Hint: Trent is NOT going to re-release TDS or TF, or Broken for that matter....get over it.

12Rounds 04-15-2005 08:24 PM

Haha I thought you meant rerelease the actual cds, and I was thinking WTF its already been released.

And if you want another TERRIBLE NIN song, deep.

The Mac file is THTF in Garageband so you can make your own remixes, theres already a few on ETS.
Do you even know what the hell he's talking about in this song...or what issue he may be addressing? I don't know but to me it seems like he was talking about the fact that some men feel "powerful" and/or gain self-confidence by letting everyone else know that they have a big "gun" or pen!s...it is an affirmation of their masculinity....and they do this because of the stereotypical idea that society has of men. It could be about his dear friend Tori Amos and the fact that she was unfortunately raped...He might be singing it from the rapists perspective... Or, as i've read before, he's simply making fun of gangster rapping and how alot of the time all they talk or rap about is their dicks and how easy it is to get women ....So, either way you look at it, those lyrics are just fine and well thought out...and were put into a certain "simple" way that obviously many people out there don't understand.
TDS was a ****ing concept album dumbass, get your facts straight.

12Rounds 04-15-2005 08:30 PM

Also, closer has bad lyrics.

I like the album, theres only two songs i really dont care for. Getting Smaller and Beside you in time.
