By the way my favourite Floyd album would have to be DSOTM, probably because that was the first album I listened to! But every album of theirs I have listened to is absolutely incredible, and I have listened to a lot! My favourite single song would have to be either SOYCD or Echoes, although at the minute I have San Tropez playing, cool song! With that in mind I have to agree with whoever said it first, that Floyd are better when listening to whole albums, I find it hard to listen to just one song and not the whole album!

Mary is almsot certainly not someone Waters dated, that wouldn't fit the album at all. I think it's some politician's wife, IIRC.

I can't believe people skip such large parts of Echoes. I can understand skipping from about 10 minutes to 14 minutes, although I never could (it would ruin the flow of the song for me) but from 15 minutes to the end is the best music I've ever heard...starting from the pings coming back in...

Well, I don't consider myself an elitist, and I do like Led Zeppelin, but I also think they're overrated. I'm not trying to be "cool" or "unique" when I say that, I just think that, on this forum especially, they're treated like God's gift to man. They're really good stuff and all, one of my favorite bands, but I don't think they hold a candle to The Beatles or Pink Floyd.

While I'm not sure about Gilmour, Mason and Wright, I am pretty sure that Waters experimented with more than just acid in his career.

Pink Floyd claims to not have been a drug orientated band, or more like Gilmour does. He says so in the DSOTM video...he also says you can trust them on that. Now, I listen to "set the controls for the heart of the sun" and I'm thinking...hmm? But then again, they were just an all out experimental band. Besides who give two ****s about wether they did drugs or not? No one questions the Beatles on that matter. It's just sad that people think Floyd is stoner music and it's cool because of that.

Has anyone heard of "Dub Side of the Moon" by Easy Side Allstars. It is a Reggae version of Dark Side of the Moon and it is pretty good and accurate. I recamond checking it out if you like Floyd and Reggae. It's Worth it. Or at least i think so

Gilmour, Wright, and Mason weren't heavy into drugs. However, Roger said that he and syd barrett "enjoyed rock & roll, drugs, danger, and sex, in that order." Also, there's all the stories about the band having to put down $5000 every time they went to a hotel, to pay for any damage waters might cause while on an acid trip.

I believe it. But i think the odds of just an old rusted 70s car would be the same of having drugs with or without a zeppelin bumper sticker.

And i hate that crap about people disliking floyd because their a stoner band or only stoners listen to them. I would like them to name their favorite bands and i think itd be pretty obvious about 90% of all classic rock bands did drugs. If they can even make music that good with or without drugs...theres an obvious sing of greateness here. Dont bash on stoner bands, because they can be wrecked and still have a better musical career then any one of us

Well, they aren't really "classic rock," they were doing their own thing that happened to correspond with the same time period. They're prog or art rock, really.

Classic Rock as I see it, is memorable, influential music, that has been able to stand the test of time. And Floyd has been able to do that.

floyd defintaly is classic rock, though their genre is prgressive/art/phycedelia rock.

i have a classic rock radio show at my school, and i hate when people tell me certain music isnt classic rock because it was too 'tripped out', 'not real rock' etc

This is late, but Mary Whitehouse, in Pigs(Three Different Ones), was a person in England fighting for Censorship and she had attacked Pink Floyd on a few occasions.
