And by improvements, you mean smaller, more portable, easier-to-produce... not necessarily better.
And easier to transfer between mediums, share, trade. Longer shelf life. Sounds good to me.
I am not going to say that vinyl sounds better, because I don't necessarily think it does. I enjoy the aesthetic of the big sleeves and the big vinyls, and being able to look at all of the artwork. You actually have to listen to it, because you can't just go skipping through tracks. It more actively engages the listener (unless you're just putting it on in the background, but that's no different from anything else). Plus tons of new releases get sent out with a free mp3 download, as well, or a CD in some cases.
A lot of people would consider that a downside, too. Although I agree with you for the most part here.
How else would you suggest I support artists that I like when they don't tour here, and I don't buy merchandise?
Why don't you buy merchandise online?
90% of what I listen to I have to order online anyway, if I want a physical copy of it, so I figure why not get vinyls? I like them, and they're clearly still selling well. Preference =/= trend.
Why vinyls over CDs? Sure you get the artwork and the novelty of having a vinyl (if you're into that), but CDs are typically more readily available.

Humour me (if you'd like), but here's a live video of Brainiac about a month before the singer died. The first song they're playing is one that would have been on their next album. The second song (if you make it that far) was on the previous EP that Trent said he got his With Teeth sound from.

If you choose not to watch, that's fine too, but I love this band.
So, uh, I may or may not have downloaded Reason... and if I did download said program, the only problem is that it's in .iso and I really don't wanna have to buy a blank DVD to have to run it...

So, uh, how would someone do this? (theoretically of course...)
Magic iso creates a virtual drive to store it on.

You can download that from one of the numerous torrent sites.

I don't condone piracy though.
Cassette, CD, and mp3 etc were developed as improvements over vinyl.

And you know there are far superior ways to support artists than buying their albums.
And the 8-track! don't forget about it!

Daemon Tools Lite is an excellent program.

Also, let us never forget BETA.

Again, for most of what I am buying, I can't get it locally, anyway, so it's not an issue of availability.

I don't buy merchandise online because I don't buy merch. I've got a couple of band shirts that I've bought from touring artists, but that's basically it. I don't want to walk around looking like I don't own anything but band shirts.
Hey, guys.
Hi Dave.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-26-2009 09:46 PM

Hey, Justin.

How've you been?

Tryxx 03-26-2009 09:47 PM

Good. Not doing crap. You?

DaveSavesTheDay 03-26-2009 09:51 PM

Pretty good.

I'm doing well at work, making fairly good money. I'm moving into my own place with a buddy May 1st which I'm pretty excited for. It'll be weird at first having to pay my own bills, buy my own food, ext but the freedom will be nice.

Tryxx 03-26-2009 09:55 PM

Ah. I'm making pretty shitty money at the moment. Closing on my place soon, but I've already been paying my own bills and whatnot. It'll just be really nice to OWN where I live.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-26-2009 10:00 PM

What are you doing now-a-days in terms of money making?

Tryxx 03-26-2009 10:02 PM
What are you doing now-a-days in terms of money making?
I've had the same job for 18 months. I work at a call-center telling people what to do. Our call center just doesn't pay crap.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-26-2009 10:35 PM

Really? I thought call centers paid well because you have to deal with people's ****.

Tryxx 03-26-2009 10:38 PM

Most do. The median STARTING pay for a call center is $12.00 an hour. I'm making $10.35 after 4 raises. Started our at $8.00 an hour.

Sablate McNuff 03-27-2009 02:15 AM

I've been there. I started at $5.45 an hour and worked my way up over the course of 2 years to $10.32 an hour.

Thin I started my new job at $12.50 an hour. The rest was history.

Only 2 more essays left to write in my undergraduate degree.

burtonbassist_102 03-27-2009 04:40 PM

man its like a blizzard outside. at least its covering up the ash from the volcano.

Gattsu347 03-27-2009 04:51 PM

10 days off. yesssss
man its like a blizzard outside. at least its covering up the ash from the volcano.
Oh, **** eh. You live in Alaska.

Do you live anywhere near it?

burtonbassist_102 03-27-2009 09:27 PM

yeah, its about 50 miles away from me.

haven't really gotten that much ash though, just a really fine coating yesterday.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-27-2009 10:18 PM

Were there any fatalities?

Also, on a completely different subject..

I applied for a promotion today. It would see me getting a 260% pay raise, plus the added benefit of being in an inbound-sales position. I'd essentially answer a phone when people wanted to buy stuff. Not to mention, I'd have way more control over what I could offer in terms of promotions or discounts.

I really hope I get it.

burtonbassist_102 03-27-2009 10:21 PM

not that i know of. the mountain itself is actually kind of isolated. all of the big cities that are closest to it are at least across the inlet away.

and that would be awesome if you got that promotion.

DaveSavesTheDay 03-27-2009 10:31 PM
not that i know of. the mountain itself is actually kind of isolated. all of the big cities that are closest to it are at least across the inlet away.
that's good. when was the last time it erupted?
and that would be awesome if you got that promotion.
tell me about it. I mean, I make pretty good money right now but it's hard. I have absolutley no power in terms of changing prices or overiding system pricing errors or even offering promotions to life-long customers. Plus, since we're in a busy mall we get all the people who want to complain and bitch about stuff that I have no power over.

I've got nothing wrong with trying to help you, but again my power is so limited that 90% of the time I can't even help them. It makes for a very long day sometimes.

Not to mention they lowered our commission by as much as 50% in some cases. Figure, last year our sales were up 30% from the previous so they decide to cut our commission

Jody LeCompte 03-28-2009 12:04 AM

Hello lod.

burtonbassist_102 03-28-2009 03:08 AM
that's good. when was the last time it erupted?
actually it erupted just this last evening. nothing really big, but its erupting pretty frequently.

the last time this volcano went through an eruptive phase (just about 20 years ago) it was for a period of about four months. so it's definitely not over yet.
