no way. he has great emotion. especially in temple of the dog and his solo stuff.
I haven't heard anything from his solo career, but I love his work with Temple of the Dog. Can you recomend some solo stuff?

PinkFreud 02-08-2006 02:18 PM
Cornell over Buckley?

If I had to put any 90's singer up with Buckley, it would be Lanye Stanley :p
staley was good. very distinctive. but he didn't have the chops or talent to even begin to compete with cornell or buckley.

seriously. cornell has a HUGE range and great power. in his prime, he could make a run for best vocalist in rock. maybe. he's up there.

obi wan kenodi: his solo stuff has a very singer/songwriter viibe to it. much different than anything else he's done.

recommended songs:
when i'm down
steel rain
wave goodbye

wave goodbye is actually a tribute to buckley. they were good friends.

Yeah, I have what's credited as him playing Spoonman with Jeff Buckly, but I don't think it actually is. Anyways, I'll get those songs.

RockAndRoll 02-08-2006 04:12 PM

That link on the last send out didn't work, it said it's invalid.

robo2448 02-08-2006 04:22 PM

The grammies are on tonight. Cream and Sly and the Family Stone are getting honored. I think David Bowie might be too, but I'm not sure. I'll probably watch in hopes of seeing Cream or Sly, even if they don't play, but I'll probably get bored and turn it off after 5 minutes.

Anyways, I have to bring in one album for my music class tomorrow. I suck at deciding these things. I'm thinking of either Traffic- John Barleycorn Must Die or CSNY- Deja Vu because I want to bring in something people won't have heard.
I'm listening to TRY! right now. This is sweet, and "I Got A Woman" is awesome.
Complete change of direction for Mayer, I love it. I wrote a review for it, but it was deleted in the crash. :-/ His tone sounds a lot like Hendrix/SRV.

PinkFreud 02-08-2006 06:36 PM

yeah, i've noticed that since i saw him play on the crossroads dvd. great player. i just hate his voice.

MBS 02-08-2006 06:40 PM

Crossroads was sweet. I remember watching that and turning to my friend and saying "Isn't that the guy who wrote "Your Body is a Wonderland"? Dude, he's good!"

Glitterati 02-08-2006 06:52 PM

I found out The Beach Boys are coming to a casino near my house. Of course, since it's a casino, I can't go! Gosh darn it. Of course, one of my teachers gets to go :furious:

This casino has to ridiculously good shows, too, like James Brown was just here.

Robert Randolph is gonna take part in a tribute to Sly, it should be pretty cool.

I want to hear that new John Mayer, but I haven't gotten the chance.
I want to hear that new John Mayer, but I haven't gotten the chance.
I'll upload it for you when I get cable. In return, you upload Eat A Peach. Deal?

Glitterati 02-08-2006 09:04 PM

Jeez, this is like a ghost town tonight.

Anyway, this John Coltrane CD my sister got me for Christmas (Blue Train, fyi) is amazing. I think I prefer Coltrane to Miles Davis.

Discussing jazz makes me feel all sophisticated.

PinkFreud 02-08-2006 09:17 PM

paul mccartney with linkin park and jay z at the grammys.

mike from linkin park actually has a pretty good voice. no lie.

BigTrav415 02-08-2006 09:18 PM

Yeah, for once I'm not the lurker in here. I've been power-leveling in World of Warcraft.
/nerd

Yes, jpj, upload Eat A Peach. Apparently out of all the times you've sent it out I never got it.

PinkFreud 02-08-2006 09:26 PM

Ugh. Bruce Springsteen Get Off Of My Television.

Jacaranda 02-08-2006 09:28 PM

Ugh different time zones, Mariah be quiet! I think she is about the only pop female artist I can't stand, oh and Ja Rule and his Astanti and Mary J Blidge.

I'm pissed, do you know why? Yes, because of U2 and Rock Album of the year. I was pulling for the Stones it was my choice out of those five albums.
But Bike is the last song
Well, on my burned cd I screwed up the order and it's second after Asronomy Domine.
And MidnightRider, you deserved the NRMOTM me thinks.
Thank you, and thanks to all who voted for me.

Sorry for the late replies, I've been gone all day.

PinkFreud 02-08-2006 09:44 PM

cream part!

Illmatic 02-08-2006 10:30 PM

Coldplay didn't win a single award, so it was an above average Grammys night overall.

Kanye probably should have won Best Album.

That Sly and the Family Stone tribute was nuts, especially Sly himself. Also, I am glad that Steven Tyler might die in my lifetime.

Glitterati 02-08-2006 10:36 PM

It's just getting underway here in Vancouver. I'm really psyched for this Sly & The Family Stone tribute, seeing as I'm just getting into them.

Seafroggys 02-08-2006 11:25 PM

just saw Paul play Helter Skelter....one of my favs.... :thumb:

Cream's gonna be on? Cool! They better play!

Leper 02-08-2006 11:35 PM

I've never watched any t.v. awards show and I don't think I ever will. (Except for the NHL awards)

PinkFreud 02-09-2006 12:23 AM

i missed helter skelter but i saw the linkin park, jay z, paul thing.

i still hate kanye.

Leper 02-09-2006 12:33 AM

Kanye's one of few rappers I actually like.

blue3 02-09-2006 01:59 AM

I only saw the Helter Skelter performance and the part where Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were playing.

magicbus 02-09-2006 02:24 AM

I didn't watch the grammy's. I'm not going to my 8 am class tomorrow.

My last.fm still hasn't updated, but here are some predictions: lots of Primus, Neil Young, Floyd, and some Alice In Chains.

NP: Tool - Jimmy

blue3 02-09-2006 02:30 AM

Mine hasn't updated either. Alice in Chains is good.

Broken Arrow 02-09-2006 07:03 AM

I only watched Paul playing Helter Sketler, it was pretty good.

I got another snowday, thats the third one this week. :D

Edit-I'm uploading the Sun Ra again.

magicbus 02-09-2006 09:33 AM

What exactly is the Sun Ra?

And how do you get so many snowdays? Yesterday it took me 20 minutes to walk back from class and the snow was coming down like crazy. I was covered when I got back inside.

EDIT: This finally came in-

Weekly Top Artists
Sunday Jan 29 - Sunday Feb 5
1 Pink Floyd 24
2 Primus 12
3 Neil Young 10
4 The Stooges 8
5 Syd Barrett 7
6 Jeff Beck 6
6 Tool 6
8 Neverhood 5
8 Rust Family 5
8 Jimi Hendrix 5

I called the top three. And it's about time.

Broken Arrow 02-09-2006 09:50 AM

Sun Ra is a jazz musician who was considered way ahead of his time.

I get so many snowdays because my high school draws about half our students from two little towns about 20 min away from each direction on two different highways the highways are in the country so when the wind blows hard the snow white outs the highway, usually causing it to be shut down.

Today for my music class, it was my turn to share an album and I brought in Traffic- John Barleycorn Must Die. The principal of my school is a really cool guy and he was at our class because he has to go around to classes and observe them once in a while. He said that John Barleycorn Must Die was one of his favorite albums ever. Cool guy.

np- Glad

This is the 3rd time I've listened to John Barleycorn Must Die since last night. I'm obsessed.

MidnightRider 02-09-2006 02:02 PM

Robo, you suck up. ;)

I missed the grammies last night, but I don't really care. I always lose interest watching things like that.

NP: John Denver - Rocky Mountain High

Good charlotte and green day are in a completely different genre then system of a down.

thickasabrick 02-09-2006 02:52 PM

**** man, there is no better song than Dark Star for toking up. It's all groovy at the start right when you're getting into everything, then suddenly you realize how stoned you are...and it's right in the middle of the super psychedelic part in the middle of the song. Heh heh, now I came on here to talk to you guys and there's still a few minutes of the song left, this is awesome. I'm gonna have to thank Badmoon, because I really never got into the Grateful Dead until I came to this site and Badmoon was like one of the dominant forces in the CR thread yet he was really just a Grateful Dead noob. Haha.

I don't really mind System of a Down, I don't own any of their albums, or have any of their songs on my computer...and maybe that's the reason I still have nothing against them. But I don't mind them. At least they are fairly original/interesting.

WelcomeToTheMachine 02-09-2006 02:52 PM

Dont give it to to many people (even though like everyones going to see this post) just becasue i dont want it to get too much spac used up and have it close down like the Yes link JonG gave me
