changing your interface is not modifying the software. that is a feature the developers have developed for you to use.

you can install themes for your MSN Messenger thingy. it's still not modifiable. you don't have the source code. if you encounter a bug, or find that you want a non-present feature, you have no way of doing anything about it. neither by yourself, or by hiring someone to do it.

yea thats a pretty terrible example

why use something mediocre when you can use something great? christsimpson turned that program into something great by having all of the features he wanted in an audio player added, which is something he couldn't have done with proprietary software.

with Clementine he has full control of everything the program is doing and the freedom to do whatever he wants with it - modify it, distribute it and share it.
