They should've hired McCartney again.
McCartney's show last year was awesome. I remember there was a huge twenty page thread in the pit talking about it.

robo2448 02-05-2006 08:17 PM

I thought the Stones were pretty good. Start Me Up seemed a little off, but Rough Justice and Satisfaction were good. Start Me Up isn't that great of a song to begin with, and I'm kind of bored of seeing them play that everytime they perform on tv. But overall, very good performance. McCartney last year was better, but I thought the Stones were great too.

JonG 02-05-2006 08:20 PM

If they played Happy, which they never will, I would be happy.

Terrible pun.

Badmoon, I finally found Elevation.

Thanks anyway :p

Yeah Paul can still pull it off.

The Stones were absolutely horrible. I mean, I know they are gettin a little old, but after playing music professionally for 40 years, you think you would at least be able to stay together am I right? Somebody, I don't know who it was, was way off, and it really ruined there first song, and they next two didn't really improve from there.

Keith and Ron did not seem on the same page on Start Me Up. Rough Justice and Satisfaction were better but I'll admit the whole performance was a little off. I thought it was still good, but I expected more.

JonG 02-05-2006 09:53 PM

Is Keef trying to make a fashion statement?

Mick didn't hit any notes on Satisfaction. Especially the beginning. That's the best part.

/waits for Jacaranda

Illmatic 02-05-2006 09:54 PM

I'll say this about the Stones: they won me 50 bucks (me and a buddy went halfsies on a $100 bet that they would play Rough Justice, Start Me Up, and Satisfaction)

The pregame thing with Stevie Wonder was better

I knew they would play Start Me Up.

But, how'd you know the other 2?

Jacaranda 02-05-2006 09:56 PM
Hey guys, the Stones are on in the Super Bowl.

/cue Jacaranda running to his TV in ecstacy

Anyway, in better news, guess who's getting high speed internet in a week? :D

I can finally download things! Huzzah!

Edit: Ugh, they're butchering Satisfaction tonight. Does anyone know who the other guitarist is? I want to say Ronnie Wood, but I think I'm wrong.
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11373093&postcount=48

I creamed my pants when I saw them perform, I also won 30 bucks for guessing the three songs they would play and in order I guessed Start Me Up, then a new one (I would've got 10 extra if it was She Saw Me Coming) and another 10 for Satisfaction. Ron Wood is the other guitar, I thought they did fine minus Micks elephant arms.

I don't think Mick was limping... I think he was strutting.
They sucked.

Mick is bad. Keef was off.

Especially his stupid headband and Mick's skin-tight feminine shirt.
Did you see Jerry on the superbowl?

DEATH FTW. (I'm just kidding don't kill me.)
If they played Happy, which they never will, I would be happy.
I just want to see Keef sing. <3

I heard there were sound problems and that is what was screwing them up, some technical thing that is out of my league to understand.

And they did just fine jesh, Paul is only one old guy they had 4 old guys who had to do the same thing at the right time. Its much harder.

PinkFreud 02-05-2006 09:57 PM

mbs, it was ronnie wood.

pigonthewing, feel like uploading that bonus disc? eh? eh?

Illmatic 02-05-2006 09:57 PM
I knew they would play Start Me Up.

I was just guessing.

Satisifaction is their most famous song, so they had to play that one, and the ads for the Super Bowl had Rough Justice on them, and they had to play one from the new album, so I guessed that one.

robo2448 02-05-2006 09:57 PM

My parents kept asking me what they would play, and I said that they would play those three. I wish they'd play something a little less predictable. Start Me Up is really boring me these days. It was never that good to begin with, but it's ridiculoulsy overplayed.

Jacaranda 02-05-2006 10:00 PM

I'm pretty sure the NFL (Or whatever.) tells them what to play, because I know Keith and Charlie hate playing Satisfaction these days. I like how they didn't show one clip of Darryl Jones. No one likes him.

Krabsworth 02-05-2006 10:02 PM

Start Me Up is just a straight up horrible song.

JonG 02-05-2006 10:02 PM

Yeah. If they busted out Route 66.

Anyways..

I downloaded these tonight:

Black Uhuru - Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
Grateful Dead - Dozin' at the Knick
Grateful Dead - Go To Nassau
Grateful Dead - Live at Fillmore West(6-7-70) It was the first time they played Sugar Magnolia live :o
Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers
Mitch Hedberg - Mitch All Together
Paul Simon - s/t
Ray Charles - Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music
Yonder Mountain String Band - Elevation

Jacaranda 02-05-2006 10:03 PM

Can any one here recommend a good external hard drive? I would ask Media center but I figure you guys are more reliable. (Between 0-120 bucks and more then 50 GB would be my most wanted.)

Seagate.

MidnightRider 02-05-2006 10:13 PM

Considering how Jagger is 60+ years old, he sure can dance. I kept on expecting him to blow a hip out.

Hey Jon, could you possibly send out that Jefferson Airplane? :D

JonG 02-05-2006 10:14 PM

Maybe.

Seagate are alright. A little pricey.

Krabsworth 02-05-2006 10:15 PM

Well you get what you pay for in the computron world.

Whenever I see/hear that now, I think of Pink Floyd. Ican't seem to think/read/say/see/do anything without being reminded of something CR-related. It's actually really that bad. I'll be sitting in class, kind of half-dozing off, and my teacher will say some random word like "Mexico" and I'll get a vivid image of the Grateful Dead.

Speaking of which, I had another wierd iPod thing happen today. I was shuffling through, and right as some song ended, I was thinking, "I think I'll get out of Shuffle and listen to Time and a Word by Yes", and right as I thought it, it shuffled to it. Out of all my songs... just weird.

So... definitely the best part of the Super Bowl was the Stones. Mick always kind of scares me, but they were still awesome. My friend saw them at Duke recently, and they had a five-story stage with staircases and stuff, and Mick ran up and down the whole time, and the stage actually moved out into the crowd at one point!

/random

I've been thinking more about the bluegrass/country/country rock, and I've decided:

Bluegrass: Haven't heard enough yet :-/
Country: Johnny Cash - Live At Folsom Prison
Country Rock: The Lost Trailers - Welcome To The Woods

np: PinK Floyd - Welcome To The Machine (on the radio  )

Stuff like that happens to me too. Well I've never thought of the Grateful Dead while talking about Mexico, but yeah I've had similar experiences...

My ipod's still completely broken:angry:. I've wasted my entire weekend trying to fix it:angry:

Glitterati 02-05-2006 10:22 PM

My mp3 player is still on the fritz  It keeps f'ucking up, I might just save up and buy an iPod.

Mexicali Blues, der-der-der :smash:
Greatest Dead song. Ever.

I love my classic rock station. They just played an unprovoked semi-marathon of Floyd, then the DJ just started ranting about On An Island and how cool the clip he'd heard was, then he went and praised Gilmour directly as one of the greatest guitar players ever :boner:. John Mellencamp now :) Hey, I like him, stfu.

Glitterati 02-05-2006 10:42 PM

I have two local classic rock stations (boner) and one of them played Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Welcome To The Machine right after another on Saturday. Made for good music on the way to the dentist.

Seafroggys 02-05-2006 11:04 PM

Instead of watching the Half-time show (which I did later) my friend put on the Queen+Paul Rodgers DVD. Its actually quite good, even though a couple of times Paul Rodgers really peaked out his range and his voice sounded flat and empty.

And Brian May hasn't changed one bit!

RockAndRoll 02-05-2006 11:06 PM

My classic rock station is okay. But that put on an annual festival, so that's cool. I hope they have a good line up this year.

thickasabrick 02-05-2006 11:25 PM
My record player is working fine.
I still use my dad's turntable and stereo system from when he was in his 20's...it's yet to break down. All this cutting edge digital technology is just plastic pieces of cancerous crap.

I didn't watch the Stones, but my dad had the TV on pretty loud in the other room and I could hear them. I wasn't too impressed...they should slow down and take on a more laid back rhythm and blues kinda feel instead of always jumping around and acting like big rock n roll stars. It would certainly improve their sound.

magicbus 02-05-2006 11:28 PM

Yea that was Ron Wood on the other guitar. I don't think the Stones were great, but it was cool to see them play. Who cares if Mick can't sing as well as he used to, he still looked like he had a lotta fun performing.

So... just figured what ftw means, after weeks of scrolling through threads thinking, "wtf?"

I'm trying to find some good Dead merchandise on eBay, the only really promising thing is that P.I.M.P pewter Steal Your face belt-buckle. I remember there was a really tiny little cool store in Wilmington called A Little Bit Hippy, they had the coolest stuff for the Dead, Pink Floyd, etc. I need to go back and buy some more stuff from there, all I've gotten were stickers so far.
