A derogatory term that encompasses nu-metal, and all genres ending in "-core"

From what I gather.
Haha, you can't forget "shops at Hot Topic, where 90+% of his clothes are from," either :p

Ever think what it would be like to go into a restaurant and be served by a Penguin?
This made me laugh. No offense, of course.
Haha, none taken.
hum, excuse the ignorance, but can someone make a thorough, objective post that defines what mallcore exactly is, and add some bandsthat enter the said genre?

I was left out when they stated in the Punk forums the existence of "poo-punk" But that was two years ago.

ok. go.
Pretty much nu-metal, metalcore and other stuff in the vein of metal that is popular among teens. It doesn't include all -core genres, as Grindcore is not included. Like jpj said, it's a derogatory term.

Key Bands:
Korn
Slipknot
Limp Bizkit
The Haunted
Atreyu (sp?)
etc

Riva 11-06-2005 08:26 PM
Riva, I have a question: Would Polgara the Sorceress be worth buying or should I just get it at the Library? and have you read any of the new Eddings books yet?
Yes, it's a good read. Really adds to the storyline, and it's got re-reading value. However, if you have Belgarath the Sorcerer, then you could probably do with just borrowing Polgara from the library.

As for their new stuff, it's interesting, and it's very well-written, but it's a strange kind of direction that they've taken. The first book "The Elder Gods" was a bit plodding, but the second book "The Treasured One" picked up well.

As for The Redemptio of Althalus, it's brilliant. Well, I really enjoyed, at least. And it's a stand alone novel, so don't be scared by the size of it. :)

The Haunted?

I wish At the Gates was still together. :(

RiceMonster 11-06-2005 08:30 PM

I remember hearing The Haunted called mallcore a few times before. I don't know, maybe I'm not remembering right.

Storm In A Teacup 11-06-2005 08:31 PM

I like The Haunted. :(

Riva 11-06-2005 08:31 PM

I think most people's gripe with the Haunted is that they get labelled as thrash-death.

OK then, 4 books getting ordered from amazon tonight.

EDIT: I already own Belgarath, but I don't care, I'm a fan.

I've heard them called various things, but never mallcore. I mostly hear them called a melodic core-ish thrash metal, but I can't really say.

I heard several of their songs on a sampler a couple years ago and hated it.

Hooray! Good to see another Eddings fan. I converted my friend a while ago, also.

Lord Abortion 11-06-2005 08:35 PM

Haah, Atreyu, what a bunch of pansies...

I saw the drummer outside his tourbus surrounded by mallkiddies as they were playing next door to Cradle of filth...

He looked like a huge fag.
I'm fine with guys wearing eyeliner, but not pink eyeliner...

Keep in mind that mallcore is an insult, not a genre ;). I heard a bit of their music too, and it was awful.

Haha, yes. I own the Belgariad, The Elenium, The Mallorean, The Tamuli, and Belgarath the Sorceror, I need to get my hands on the Rivan Codex some time too :(.

I like their first two albums :upset:. They put on a good live show too.

I thought it was just a more degrading way of saying "nu metal". Either way, they suck. :)

How many have you got to do?
and can you fix it so Bruce wins?

Anybody here read or heard of the book "Of Arms and Men?"

It's one of the most ridiculously interesting history books I've ever read. It's the history of war and man's civilization seen through the progression of weapon development.

Progression of weapon development? Interesting. I've never read it, but it sounds like something I'd be into. That's impressive considering I don't really care much for reading.

jpj 11-06-2005 08:44 PM

On the subject of books, I'm reading The Historian right now. I'm not too far into it, but so far it's great. It talks a lot about Vlad Dracula, which is very cool, of course. It's kind of a historical mystery/suspense.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-06-2005 08:45 PM

Speaking of wars and such, me and my friend beat Medal of Honor: Rising Sun in 4 hours this weekend.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-06-2005 08:46 PM

I love co-op.

Best.Game Mode.Ever.

That man was a psycho, he had 'bloodlust' because he had 'thin blood' oh I love when people try to scientifically dispell people being evil lunatics through disorders.

Medal of Honor = crap, especially the ones that take place in Japan. Call of Duty is much better.

I really really want Call of Duty 2 to get liscensed for Mac ASAP. :(

If I had to pick someone from the world of metal to worship beyond all others, it would be king Brucey.:D

Night MX, it's nearly 3 in the bastard morning...

jpj 11-06-2005 08:49 PM

I agree. Call of Duty is 100 times better than Medal of Honor. I can't wait to get my hands on the new one.
