You're half right there jos. Its not about being individual. I find myself completely unremarkable with the sort of face anyone can forget. So i want something to make me memorable. However memorable also has to come with personal meaning. Which is where the latin comes in. Its a phrase that ive grown up with coming from two sources. Originally it was a phrase used in the bible which i never beleived in and then from the Knights Templar who i enjoy researching. So you're right in that its about aesthetics but it also has personal meaning to me.

WTF man that makes no sense what so ever. Some ink on your arm will not make you memorable. In fact, I bet you any amount of money you could just put a sock on one of your ears and have a better effect to be remembered then a VERY common tattoo on your arm.
And unless you got a tatoo on your face, it still looks the same. Here's some plain fact for you- being remembered has NOTHING to do with your face, or looks. It's called personality, presence, charm, etc... I'd recommend you read a book, it's VERY popular and a required text for most MBA and many Business degree's here. It's called 'How to win friends and infulence people' Guess what? Non of it deals with how you look. Here's a lil hint for you too - non of the Bible was written in latin. Aramaic and Hebrew were the languages used. The first translation of the Bible into latin (The Vulgate) wasn't until the 15th century. |
These last 3 or 4 pages were funny. Dunno why but they were.
And i'm too much of a retard to figure out what jim and josiah are on about. |
Just keep eating raw meat and making monkey sounds
Someone will tend to you eventualy |
Jos im well aware of that. However, John 8:32 ;) The phrase is used in english. Im aware the star is fairly common but its not staying on its own. Its gonna be part of a half sleeve. Memorable mighta been the wrong word, but its something to stand out seeing as nothing else does.
Im not interested in winning friends either, i'll admit i dont have much charisma but im one of those people you either like or yuo dont, there is no middle ground. |

Oh my did you just quote the Bible in defence of you getting a tattoo? Dude, you might want to check up on what the Bible says about tattoo's. John 8:32, the Truth will set you free. Wich is actually the second part of a statement Jesus made - " Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Indeed the Truth will set you free. That truth Jesus refered to explicitly states that tattoo's are a defilement to the body. And no, you have not studied Jesus's teachings. Because anyone who has, wouldn't say, do or speak the way you do.
Im not interested in winning friends either, i'll admit i dont have much charisma but im one of those people you either like or yuo dont, there is no middle ground.
It's the title of the book moron. And if you aren't interested in winning friends, then why in the world are you interested in being more memorable to others? Seems to me you are EXACTLY interested in winning friends. And just one more thing. How the fuck can you make such blanket statements about what people think? You don't know. Because if you did.. you would know how see through you are to most people. I can see right through ya man, and it's sad, it really is. You are quoting Jesus, without even having a clue what Jesus talked about. Seems like the answers to your problems have nothing to do with being remembered, but that deeply inside you feel the need to be special to at least some one.. but you haven't found that yet, that's why you are trying so hard to be a memorable individual and at the same time hypocritically denying your want to "win over friends". Here's the truth that will set you free - You want to be seen as cool (denying the need for anyone else "I don't want to win friends"), and at the same time, are begging for acceptance ("I want to be memorable"). |
Hang on... Im confused.
Why the hell have we begun fighting each other over what the bible means? This is a drummer's stronghold, not a bible basher's stronghold! :D |
There is no debate or fight over the particular passages in question. Nor is there a debate on the Bible's stand about Tattoo's... It's very clear and very explict. Drum Phil has been ignorantly quoting the Bible in defense of his tattoo's and the thinking behind them.
As such, like all things false, should be set right. And indeed you are wrong. This is the stronghold.. and had you read about what the thread is, you'd know it was for open disscussion for any topic. As pretty much every topic has been discussed. Your issue with religious topics, the Bible in particular, is very aparent, as this thread has not been about anything drumming related for some time.. like since it's start. You should work a lil harder on that animosity.. it's just a 'touch' noticable. |
Last night my band played a small show, and the band right after us didn't even bring a drum set? Like wtf, he asked me if he could use my drums. I was like... uhhh ok I guess. He wasn't a hard hitter or anything, he seemed to be playing them respectfully, but who shows up without drums? And he didn't even haveto adjust anything, he just left it exactly as I had it. Which was good for me. Anyway, Not only that, but it's the second time I have come across a band that needed to use my sh!t. Have you people ever heard of this?
Relationships in high school = pointless
Teenagers should just go on casual dates, get their dating chops up and running. If they want to ****, then let them ****. Its not something I would ever do casually. Anyway, teenagers just don't have the mindset or the calmed hormones to have a good, responsible, respectable relationship. Something that lasts over a month is unhealthy.
ha... I like you Seafroggy's... but that's all bull****. I met my first girlfriend in highschool and we've been together and happy ever since. Like Winston Churchill said "Love is a friendship set on fire" We were friend two years before we hooked up and then everything just fit. It pays off to find someone like minded, though... not just any person you think is attractive. |

thats what happened with me and my current gf. met her on this allnighter, got with her, stayed in contact, found out we were really similar and got on... |
Cool, yeah there's always the chance that you'll get to know 'em well anyway, and that you get on well.
And what were you doing in that pic?? (apart from drinking) |

I have indeed seen my share of horrible relationship choices... but Seafroggy's point isn't 100% true, and despite his hardships, a highschool relationship isn't pointless. |

Yep. Heard about it alot. Usually when two bands play the same venue they only use one kit. Saves space for transportation, and time and hassle taking apart and setting up different sets.. Come to think of it..it's very common.. lol and when I have seen bands use different kits they are usually a good bit apart (not right after eachother) or a small opening act playing for a main stream recording artist..of course will use two diff. sets.. but for small venues and local bands, they usually double up on sets dude..get used to it.. |

that's weird. I've never seen that happen. Even for short sets... 45 minutes to and hour, there's always (as far as i've seen) been a short break so bands can take their gear and the next band can set theirs up. |
Mostly around here for smaller venues with local bands there usually isn't a break.. but there usually is for more well known, respected bands. Also depends on what kind of show you're performing.. if its like a talent show, or something that an org. runs than most likely they are gonna want to be on a set schedule.. but if its just a concert than there usually will be a break..

I understand what ur saying (for the most part). But I couldn't belive that he waited to ask me right as we finished. I had no idea my set was needed, or that a band needed to use it. And I wanted to get them out of there right after we were done, but of course I couldn't be like "no". And totally ruin their set. So I let him use em no prob. |
yea
i'd always ask at least a few days before... |
Would've been better if you at least had notice before the gig I guess.
Edit: ^^ pff fine, get there before me why don't you. |
its cos im better than you
|
It would have been nice to know yea. But I'm still a bit weary about people I don't know playin my set.
|
Same here. I'd only let one other guy play on my set for a show, most drummers enjoy bringing their own stuff..but this time the place we were playing only wanted us to use one to save time setting up.. the idiot switched my pedals out, changed my tom heights, moved around my cymbals, than he half assedly put my pedal back on so it fell off during our set..
|
Yeah, I was lucky, because the kid who used my set didn't move anything. He added a crash (which was on it's own stand), and that was it. I'm thinkin of sometime down the road of gettin a set just to use for shows and stuff, because it's so hard on my drums takin em down, and settin em up all the time. I'd like to have a cheaper older set that I cared less about. But I also could use a set of cases for my drums....
Tattoo's are for people deeplying searching for ways to make themselves unique in a egomanical conformist society but fail to see beyond the asthetics of the body.
That said, it's been the very rare occasion I've met someone with a truly meaningful tatoo. All of those were related to extreme dedication and bond through experience.
I dunno, I don't really think that's true. I don't know how anyone could trick themselves into thinking getting tattoo'd, something that millions, if not billions, of people have already done could make them unique. While every now and then someone gets a tattoo that is unique (which is certainly not the case with Phil or myself), it in no way shape or form makes them unique, and I don't think I've met anyone who really thinks it does. But that doesn't really matter to me. I don't need it to be unique. What matters to me is that it's special to me and it's another way for me to celebrate the memory of someone I loved. |
Tattoos are kind of silly. Not in a bad way, they just are.
And you have to put lotion/neosporin on them every couple of hours, they blister, they itch, they peel, you have to shower funny 'cause the hot water/soap will damage them... Arg. Went to Roller Derby last night. SOOO BORING. There are only 3 teams in Tucson, and 1 of them sucks miserably [which is a shame, they're the coolest team], so whenever they're playing, there's really no point in watching 'cause you know who's going to win =/ |
