I thought that was Bob Dylan?
I think you can argue Buddy Guy for that title as well.

EDIT: Beaten

Jacaranda 08-25-2005 08:05 PM

Well now, it seems I have to go do some fact checking, but I thought when I was at Experience Music Project it said he credited Otis Redding with being his idol/biggest influence.

But now that I think about it I might be wrong cause Otis Died in 1967 and that was just weeks after he recorded his strongest song.

Broken Arrow 08-25-2005 08:08 PM

I can remember all three being huge influences on him.

Jacaranda 08-25-2005 08:38 PM

For anyone who's interested the Poll for Listening Party 60's Rock style is up in Alt/Indie.

Broken Arrow 08-25-2005 08:45 PM
Guys the next A&I listening party is gonna be 60's rock. I suggest you guys come. I saw Pink Freud, Med and Jacaranda in today's listening party.

They're the ones who prefer "Sweet Home Alabama" to "Southern Man."
This one made me laugh

NP- ELP- Jeruselem. I think this song should become an offical Christmas song

Captian Beefheart although I nominated Forever Changes.

Walrus Gumboot 08-25-2005 09:03 PM

I voted Forever Changes because I have always wanted to hear it, but all of the others look interesting too.

Broken Arrow 08-25-2005 09:05 PM

I wish I would have nominated Happy Trails.

Jacaranda 08-25-2005 09:06 PM

Gawd darnit I shoulda done a Velvet Underground CD. That would be fun to listen too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-25-2005 09:13 PM

 This is what Zappa told me in the poll thread:
You're no longer allowed to have that avatar or user title, you hippie.
I think it's funny as hell but I can't tell if he was being serious or not.

I wish I could have added Os Mutantes. :-/

Jacaranda 08-25-2005 09:15 PM

He was just kidding, Zappa's a closet-hippy.

Lunch 08-25-2005 10:00 PM

My new and likely final article is up now, on NRPS instead of Ten Years After like I originally said:
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383777

Also today I got Live Phish 14, the one where they cover Quadrophenia.

MBS 08-26-2005 01:30 AM

'Sup new avatar and user title?

Lunch 08-26-2005 09:45 AM

It's really well done and interesting to hear a different take on the album. I'm not through it yet, but so far it's good. The 4-disc set also features a 40-minute jam on You Enjoy Myself and covers of A Day In the Life and My Generation (I haven't gotten to these yet, but they look promising).

jpj 08-26-2005 10:12 AM

I was looking at the track lists on some of those and on 13 (I think) they cover like half the songs on The White Album.

Glitterati 08-26-2005 11:16 AM
Canadian Guy you listen to any Otis Redding or Sam Cooke?
I've only heard "Sitting on the dock of the bay," and I like that. (I'm Canadian-Guy, BTW)
He was just kidding, Zappa's a closet-hippy.
It's true.

On another note, I think Elvis Costello is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

I think they cover VU's Loaded on one of them too.

Walrus Gumboot 08-26-2005 11:32 AM

I just found this vinyl copy of Tommy that has a huge pinball on the front cover instead of Lunch's avatar, and it says it has all kinds of guest vocalists, like Ringo Starr and Sandy Denny, has anyone else heard of this? It says it was made in 1972

Lunch 08-26-2005 11:36 AM

As far as I know it's a live version with an orchestra and special guests. Ringo sings on Fiddle About and Tommy's Holiday Camp.

MBS 08-26-2005 12:04 PM

So he replaced Moon? :(

BludgeonySteve 08-26-2005 12:53 PM

I don't mean any disrespect, but Ringo can't play Keith's stuff. I think he just sang.

Maybe it's the soundtrack to the movie?

I just learned that my library has cds

I got Pink Floyd- Delicate Sound of Thunder and Eric Clapton- Unplugged.

Unplugged pwns. Haven't listened to DSOT yet.

np- Tears in Heaven

Teh_Dime 08-26-2005 01:42 PM

The Doors had some of the best lyrics of all time...Morrison was creative...Now all bands do is yell as loud as they can about political stuff (sorry Green Day...you sold out)....Back then they just downright did it the right way :thumb:

BludgeonySteve 08-26-2005 01:43 PM
Morrison was creative
Yep. That's the truth right there.

Teh_Dime 08-26-2005 01:47 PM

^^^^^Yeah if anyone was made the best frontman of all time he would be up therein top 3...I mean look at any of his songs...

MBS 08-26-2005 01:54 PM

I downloaded Unplugged from the Other Music YSI when my internet was fast.

My internet is weird. Most of the time, it's incredibly slow. But some days, it gets really fast.

Edit: To stay on topic of CR, my favorite track on Unplugged is Running on Faith.

That is quite possibly one of my favorite songs.

Probably not serious.

Did you get that Jeff Beck Bootleg I uploaded in the Other Music YSI?
