Haha FINALLY I've found someone else that doesn't like Johnny Cash! It seemed like after he died suddenly you couldn't say a bad word about the guy without getting flamed for it.
|
i just think he was a stone cold badass. and his mu sic was good.
my fdavorite country trock album is american beauty by the gwateful dead. i like it more than workingmans dead. country would be live at folsom prison. its got a freat atmosphere about it. |
For my favorite country/folk ablum, I'd say "Live at Folsom Prison" by Jonny Cash, "Palace of Gilded Sin" by Flying Burrito Bros., "On The Beach" by Neil Young, "Working man's Dead" by Grateful Dead, or "The Band" by The Band.
Yea, spam's getting reeeeeeeeeeeall out of hand. We should chill it out a little bit and stick to the music discussion. To a certain extent is alrihgt, but this is nuts. Consider it guys. Thanks bros. NP: The Stooges - raw Power |
I'd have to say my favourite Country/Folk Rock album is Neil Young- After the Goldrush.
I know you're all surprised. |
Bluegrass - Probably the soundtrack to O' Brother Where Art Thou.
Country - Hank Williams Jr. - Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound Country Rock - The Allman Bros. - Eat a Peach |
Bluegrass- Leftover Salmon- The Nashville Sessions
Folk- Bob Dylan- Blood on the Tracks, Nick Drake- Five Leaves Left Country- Johnny Cash- At Folsom Prison Folk Rock- Bob Dylan- Highway 61 Revisited, Simon and Garfunkel- Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Band- The Band Country Rock- The Grateful Dead- American Beauty/ Workingman's Dead/ Europe '72 Some of my favorites. |
Folk Rock - Simon and Garfunkel- Bridge Over Troubled Water
S&G are truly amazing. I remember the first time I heard Sound of Silence, I was blown away. NP: The Dangling Conversation (My favorite of theirs) |
Workingman's Dead, NRPS s/t, The Band's s/t, and some early Dylan are probably the winners in this category for me.
Edit: And some S&G and maybe a Byrds album. |
classic rock is the greatest music there is!!!it's just so wonderfull!!it's got incredible and a lot of the times virtuoso type instrumentall sections, amazing lyrics that can be very poetic and great singers with a lot of range. my favourite are led zeppelin!!!!
|
A little off topic but does any one know where to ge some classic rock Backing Tracks? I went here and they got some awesome metal and rock http://www.uzforums.com/ but no classic ones.
|
I've been in such a Dead mood lately, but American Beauty and Workingmans Dead arent cutting it for studio stuff.
|
Workingman's Dead is one of my favorite albums ever. What studio albums do you have of theirs?
|
I've been in such a Dead mood lately, but American Beauty and Workingmans Dead arent cutting it for studio stuff.
If you bump the GD thread We'll give you some suggestions. <_< Anything live is good, but I guess you want studio stuff. |
I have a ****load of live shows, (well not ****load, but a good 30-40)
and Lunch i meant i have Workingmans Dead and American Beauty, i need something new of theres, im kind of burnt out on those two albums right now. |

I would get probably Aoxomoxoa, then see if you could get your hands on Wake of the Flood, From the Mars Hotel, and Blues for Allah. |
Not a big fan of country rock. :p
Neil Young, CSN&Y and uh.. |

Bluegrass
Old & In the Way - Old & in the Way String Cheese Incident - Born on the Wrong Planent (Rightfully a Bluegrass album) Tony Rice - Backwaters Folk Woody Guthrie - Dustbowl Ballads Pete Seeger - If I Had a Hammer (compilation) Country Johnny Cash - Unchained Gram Parsons - G.P. Country Rock Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead Uncle Tupelo - No Depression Ry Cooder - Paradise & Lunch New Riders of thre Purple Sage - s/t The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo |
My favorite country/southern rock would have to be Lynyrd Skynyrd, and for country, I like Johnny Cash, and I like Harry Chapin, which would fall into folk I think (not sure).
|
Led Zeppelin 3
Um...didn't Aldous Huxley write that?
Omg Eazy-E!
*boner*. That's such a great album.
'Tis. I got it for my birthday in November, soooooo good. I like how you can really hear everything, all the background noises, like nothing is cut out. |
Bluegrass
Old & In the Way - Old & in the Way
Definately forgot about that album. Excellent album.
Wake of the Flood is supposed to be phenominal according to Badmoon. Anthem of the Sun is good, but very psycadelic.
Wake of the Flood is great. It's an excellent album. |

does anybody even bother to respond to these anymore? :smash: |

Don't think so. Still, new posters are good, when they outgrow their noob stages. Whoever sent out the BBC Archives of Pink Floyd, thanks a bunch. Echoes... mmm.... |
Any person who doesn't cap words and has Led Zeppelin somewhere in their user title isn't worth replying to, plain and simple.
Anthem of the Sun is good, but very psycadelic.
*psychedelic Anthem of the Sun is one of the worst Classic Rock albums I've ever tried listening to. |
I figure that Dylan has an album for basically every genre...although his albums aren't always considered one of the best of the genres haha! I'm listening to Desolation Row right now.
I'll say if we are getting into all the more folky/country acoustical genres and I'd have to name some names...I'd name Tony Rice, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, CSN(Y), and that's all that comes to mind at the moment. Of course, that's actually kind of staying away from a lot of actual rock bands...like the Allman Brothers. They are awesome. This one guy who has a spot on my community radio station loves the Allman Bros. so I hear them all the time when I'm driving. edit - Haha! That's pretty mean Schyma. Anthem of the Sun isn't thaaaat bad. In fact, I kinda really like it. Hey cool, I just looked over to my right and there's a little pack of pills sitting on the ground. I wonder what they are. |
The Allmans have great driving music. In addition to great music in general.

Whoever sent out the BBC Archives of Pink Floyd, thanks a bunch. Echoes... mmm....
Yea isn't it great? I really love the version of Echoes they play on that one. I haven't listened to Zappa in a while. This music still amazes me. NP: Willie the Pimp |
My favorite Country albums are American Beauty, Workingman's Dead, Nashville Skyline, and The Pizza Tapes. I agree with Badmoon on Old & In The Way's s/t and Born on the Wrong Planet.
Then, of course there's early Bob Dylan and CSN(Y) for folk. I like Anthem of the Sun. I could see how people wouldn't like it, but calling it the worst classic rock album you've ever heard is crazy. I mean have you ever heard T. Rex? *runs like hell*
I haven't listened to Zappa in a while. This music still amazes me.
I used to consider myself just a moderate Zappa fan, but after I re-listened Over-Nite Sensation and The Grand Wazoo, he has become one of my favorite artists. I feel bad because all I actually have on CD is a compilation :-/ |
Haha T. Rex...they did that Get It On (Bang a Gong) song right? I think I taught that song to some of my students, it plays E for like 8 bars straight then just alternates between E and A and then throws in a G for the chorus heh heh, it's the easiest song. Little kids like it though, it makes them feel important playing a song they've never heard.

I don't have any Zappa on CD, but that's where my dad comes in. He has a ton of Zappa CDs and vinyl. It's awesome. NP: The Gumbo Variations |
The more I listen to Gypsy Cowboy, the better it is.
Anthem of the Sun is not the worst. Maybe PATGOD for sheer boringness. |
The more I listen to Gypsy Cowboy, the better it is.
Anthem of the Sun is not the worst. Maybe PATGOD for sheer boringness.
What!!? PATGOD is amazing, a hundred times better than Anthem of the Sun. I'll say that much. I think you just said that to piss off Schyma, but he'll probably react less than I did. |
yes.
classic rock owns. |
Anthem of the Sun is alright in my book. I really liked it, now I'm not as into it. Kinda plain, but "Born Crossed Eyed" is really cool.
PATGOD is cool too. I wouldn't call it Floyd's best, but it's fun to listen to. |
I think the actual music on AotS had a lot of potential (as evident by the Dead's great shows from '68 and '69), but the production is just crappy. It was a cool idea and perhaps adds to the psychedelic nature of the album, but the sound ends up suffering.

Yea that bugs me a little too. The "studio" to "live" footage they mixed in kinda came out bad. |
Yeah it really all boils down to the fact that the Grateful Dead sucked on their studio albums, mainly on their earliest albums. They were always amazing live though.
|
I still like Anthem though, especially since it spanwed The Other One, a highlight of any Dead show for me.
Edit: I wouldn't say they sucked, they just didn't reach the same peaks that their live shows did. Aoxomoxoa and their first album are both good studio efforts. |
I like Anthem of the Sun. I could see how people wouldn't like it, but calling it the worst classic rock album you've ever heard is crazy.
I didn't say it was the worst look at the quote below. There's a slight difference and no, it's probably not the worst but I think it's surely up there.
Anthem of the Sun is one of the worst Classic Rock albums I've ever tried listening to.

Anthem of the Sun is not the worst. Maybe PATGOD for sheer boringness.
Isn't it strange when someone tells you an opinion you highly disagree with you just feel a need to bash the other person in some way. Like trying to hurt them by saying something about something they love. We just have to remember it is just an opinion and we shouldn't let the opinion of the person you highly disagree with harm you in anyway. It just makes you seem childish when you're clearly saying that just because you highly disagree with me. Just keep in mind it is only my simple opinion. ;) |
I said it, because I knew you'd get like that.
