^^^^ Yes, I'm afraid I have heard lots of DP. I think I expained my dislike in my post you quoted above. Actually, SOTW is one of their songs I like better than most, along with Black Night.

I am allowed not to rate them, aren't I?:)
Of course you are, I'm just surprised that a Sabbath fan would hate Deep Purple. I know very few people who once they actually listen to Deep Purple don't like them. Meh, to each his or her own.

Fair do's.

A few months ago, saying you didn't like a popular band like DP would have resulted in a flamefest of biblical proportions - it's good that we are now allowed divergent opinions without it all getting ugly!

Tell you what, I'll dig out some DP stuff, give it another listen and a fair hearing, and see if I like it more than I used to. Can't do more than that.

rippa32 11-17-2005 06:49 PM

When you say you don't like Gillan's voice do you mean those high pitched screams or just in general? Cos I have a friend who hates the screams but likes his voice usually.
Wicked World on Past Lives =
I know its awesome hey? And you're not missing out too much on the pick its kinda crappy. As for the poster its not really that big. Is it true that there is more than one Live At Last edition? So on Past Lives did they put all the songs on?

Of course it is cheesy Dio id a 5ft tall elf

Other than snowblind, wtf? Sabbath took a definite turn for the worse after Sabotage...the only song I really dig on Technical Ecstacy is Dirty Women and while Never Say Die is better, it still all sounds kind of contrived to me.
I think Sabotage itself was pretty weak the only reason i got it was for megolamania

i may have said this before but has anyone noticed that part of megolamania by sabbath and part of tatood dancer by ozzy sound very similar?
When you say you don't like Gillan's voice do you mean those high pitched screams or just in general? Cos I have a friend who hates the screams but likes his voice usually.
Gillan's voice in general grates on me - his screams are in a different league of hatefulness.

Sorry. But I promised to give them another go, and I'll keep my word over the weekend.
I have a horrible feeling though, that the "Radish Syndrome" is about to happen.

This is when, after years of not liking radishes, I suddenly think "why do I hate radishes? Other people really like them. They can't be that bad, perhaps I've remembered the flavour wrong, and I'm missing out - hmm, I'll get some..."

Then I have a salad, get the radishes out, try one, and go "blaaaaaghh!!" and spit it out, saying "I feckin' hate radishes; they're feckin awful!!"
And don't buy any for about two years, and then it happens all over again..

shadow_stalker 11-18-2005 03:04 PM

Ooh i have been meaning to get some of geezer and tony's solo wrk, but power metal cds keep pushing them back in the list

I've heard samples of that album. It actually sounds quite good, the others are too industrial for me though.

modern_man 11-18-2005 07:10 PM

i was listening to the primus remake of nativity in black with ozzy the other day.i always liked this remake of the song.to the point where i think it is one of the few remakes of a song that is better than the original.les claypool is a phenomenal bass player and his bass playing is what makes the song even better.geezer isnt one of the bass players i think of when i think of great bass players.he's good but not that great.

rippa32 11-18-2005 11:06 PM

He is actually, he's one of those players that can really play good bass lines that don't necessarily go along with the rest of the song, John Paul Jones is another that can do this. And don't call it Nativity In Black it is just plain N.I.B the nativity in black thing was just a rumour.

Aussie_rocker 11-19-2005 12:50 AM

The Wizard is my favourite song and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

modern_man 11-19-2005 01:43 AM
And don't call it Nativity In Black it is just plain N.I.B the nativity in black thing was just a rumour.
then what does N.I.B stand for?

Kronos 11-19-2005 03:28 AM
then what does N.I.B stand for?
I think it might be Noobs Irritate and Bore

rippa32 11-19-2005 04:55 AM

It actually doesn't stand for anything. Back in the day Bill had a goatee that Ozzy reckoned looked like a pen nib(while high of course) so he would always call him nibby, the title actually has nothing to do with the song. Why they printed it as an abbreviation though I don't know.

Brew 11-19-2005 06:55 AM
I think it might be Noobs Irritate and Bore

Black Science came today, it sounds pretty good so far.

Did anyone else see Ozzy and then Sabbath on the UK Hall of Fame? Ozzy's voice was bollocks, I didn't recognise his bass player, Geezer looked pissed off and bored when Ozzy was talking when the Sabs were inducted and if Ozzy's voice wasn't so bollocks they should've played all of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Ozzy looks well, but his voice is gone.

shadow_stalker 11-19-2005 07:15 AM

Yeah i saw abit of it, Ozzy needs to retire sooner rather than later

no offence to Ozzy ofcourse, but he is past it

Kronos 11-19-2005 07:21 AM

I didn't see that! Bugger. Metal of any kind, crap or not, is a rare event on British telly.

Poor rich drug addled old Ozzy :upset:

shadow_stalker 11-19-2005 07:26 AM

Rich old ozzy more like

Try listening to Woman from Tokyo, Soldier of Fortune and Highway Star. They are much better than smoke on the water.

Anyway. For christmas, I have to option of getting Masters of Reality or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Im getting other cds, so i cant get both. Which one should I get.

rippa32 11-20-2005 12:00 AM

Depends if you like a bit of prog rock added to your rather heavy music then Sabbath Bloody Sabbath it is, Master Of Reality is more there usual stuff but I personally prefer it.

666Ozzfan 11-21-2005 01:17 AM

Deep Purple's "child in time" is good....

Neway, anyone seen DVD: Black Sabbath, The Last Supper? Really enjoying it. seen it a few times now.

Its great.

Good performances with highly entertaining interviews, probably the best live DVD to get by them.

Moondog 11-21-2005 04:28 AM

I love the debut album. It's like a twisted dark take on the sounds of Led Zeppelin. I also think that Volume 4 is an incredibly strong album and probably should have had as much recognition as Paranoid and Master of Reality.

rippa32 11-21-2005 04:45 AM

In my opinion Vol 4 needs more recognition than Paranoid, it can be a bit of an acquired taste though, I had to let it grow on me.

Oh btw I got the replacement stylus today so I have finally been able to listen to Technical Ecstacy. One word: Awesome. I loved it beginning to end, my favourites being Gypsy and You Won't Change Me. Bill's song isn't bad either but I reckon his one on Never Say Die would probably be better(im guessing) it's just that It's Alright is kind of boring.

Oh and brum I remember you told me that an original pressing of the debut album would cost quite a lot, yet I bought an original pressing of Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy, almost perfect condition except one or two tiny hard to see scratches and only the VERY occasional record crackle and yet it is was only $15. What constitutes the high price of an original pressing Black Sabbath debut album?

Moondog 11-21-2005 04:53 AM

Rippa I think the reason that Sabbath's debut original LP costs so much is because of the controversial inverted cross in the sleeve.

Brew 11-21-2005 10:36 AM

A first edition BS LP is black on the inside, with the inverted cross and poem etc...pretty much the same as my version, although the inside of mine is white.

I think it all boils down to where you buy it from though.

rippa32 11-21-2005 04:32 PM

Yeah ok. So what would you say is better brum, Technical Ecstacy or Never Say Die?

NP - Gypsy

lightningmetal666 11-21-2005 06:04 PM

Hey does any one here have the BS reunion tour double cd set?

I love what ozzy does for the vocals on the song Black Sabbath.

That dude has a very wicked laugh.

rippa32 11-21-2005 08:40 PM

I don't have it but I heard Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, it was alright but I was quite pissed off with the fact they only did the first half.

Brew 11-22-2005 10:51 AM
Yeah ok. So what would you say is better brum, Technical Ecstacy or Never Say Die?

Hmm.

I'd say Never Say Die!, it was a bit more experimental than Technical Ecstasy and it all worked quite well.

NP - Bill Ward - Straws

No worries mate - in actual fact I didn't get round to listening to much this weekend, as I was working all day Sat and Sun

The only thing I played much at weekend was Deliverance and Ghost Reveries
