Thanks! I'll probably run into the store tomorrow and try those and a couple other out.
|
i think my question got skipped over so ill just restate.
Are wuhans any good? ive heard there good for there cheap price. also will they last for a long while?? |
They're good.
But since they're cheap, I've heard somepeople saying they won't last long. They'd be good If You know your going to replace them within time. |
Ive found the bigger Wuhans to last longer. But ive also had my 12" for almost a year now. My 24" could probably survive an explosion and could protect me from nuclear winter. I love the chinas and the splashes. Theyre good if you want cheap trashyness.

I'm finally going to convert my older drum set into a jazz kit. The only thing I really need is cymbals. I want to get a ride, hats, and 2 crashes (preferably one around 14" and one 18"). I want a nice washy sound.
Can anyone recommend some cymbals with those preferences? Maybe even a website that sells them cheap-ish? Thanks |
Well for the site, try http://www.massmusic.net. Andy is a really cool guy and helps out a lot. For a crash, I would get a 18" K Custom Dark Crash. Not sure about the others.
Opinions on 20" K Ride and 14" Paragon Hats? Thank you. |
CIE Vintages would suit you well.
14 hats. 16 Crash. 18 Crash. 20 Ride, although those go on the bit of the ...expensive side. Might I suggest some HHX Manhattans as well ( Knows nothing about Sabian ). Or try an Armand Zildjian 19 Beautiful Baby, some quickbeats, and thin and medium thin crashes. You can take the recomendations that George said too, and you can go to Zildjian.com and check them out at their "sound lab". Sabian has the same thing with Manhattans. |
If your a jazz drummer....you might want to look into a sizzle ride. Alot of jazz drummers have more rides than crashes. You could get a light crispy ride and then a sizzle ride and have a large(r) crash to accompany that of the K series or Manhattan Sabians.

The only shop around here that sells Wuhans sells them in up to a 27" You could always ask a shop to order one in for you to try out, couldn't you? |

Not around here you don't. If you decide you don't like it when they get it in, they just put it out on display, for someone else to buy. |
i dont have any money right now, but when i do, think i need better hi-hats. right now im using zbt bottoms, and planet Z tops. the two lowest types i could have. What are some good hi-hats, for around $100-200 (USA). i dont know much about what makes good hi-hats. I normally play punk or rock. when i play ride i do use alot of (dont know tech name of it) clicking on the hats, so anything with alot of that would be great.

Hmm Maybe some like 14/15 New Beats ( Although those might be out of your price range ). Do you mean operating the high hats with your feet? You'll get more sound out of a larger high hat (and heavier) I would assume. New Beats seem to be what your after. Or maybe even the K/Z Dyno Beats or whatever. |
^^^ what he said!

I just counted my money and I have $850 to spend. I liked all of your suggestions for jazz cymbals, but I think some of them may be too pricey.
In my area, there aren't any drumming stores that are mainly cymbals, so I have to look online. So, I've been looking for awhile and found a website called cymbalsonly.com. They have a great selection. Well, I'm currently looking at Istambul Mehmet Sultan series, does annyone think these cymbals would be a good choice? I love the sound clips, and they're in my price range, but I can't really try before I buy. |
I don't have a lot of money to spend and i really need new cymbals. Right now I'm trying to decide between a set of Meinl MCS's or Zildjian ZBT 4's. Which should I get? or is there any better cymbals in that price range?
btw first post |
i would suggest to you to not get overanxious to get a bunch of cymbals, and then end up buying crap, buy yourself a nice pro level hi hats and ride, look into new beats, very versatile, and a medium ride or some sort, those are also very versatile, although look into the pro level lines of all the companies an dpick the ones you like best

Ride Cymbal
Hi guys
Im after a ride that has a nice loud ping (must be heard over 2 guitars) and a nice crasy wash. I've sifted through the thread and I think I should be looking for a 21inch Zildjian A sweet ride. Would I be correct in making that assumption? Any other rides that would fit my criteria? (not a huge fan of Z customs) As a side point... UFIP's?? I dont really see anyone giving them praise. They just not up to scratch? Thanks |
I think sweet ride might be alittle more crashable, making it less pingy.
But I don't seee why not. Zildjian A PING ride ;) might help you as well.... Drum With Ease. Buy some K Mastersounds (14) and like a K High Definition Ride, ( Almost like Constonoples ). Try them out on the Zildjian Site. And than build from there, no use spending all your money at once. |

As a side point... UFIP's?? I dont really see anyone giving them praise. They just not up to scratch?
That upset me. UFIP's are far better then Zildjian, Sabian and Pasite. They are the best brand ever:p they just cost alot. And not to many people on here know that much about them (I think only me and BB use them). Here is most of my UFIP's (It is missing a Natrual Crash), At the moment im trying to get a 17" or 18" light Class Crash. People who use Crashs as rides rule.
|
what are some really versatile hats?
also, out of curiosity, what kind of cymbals would, in your opinion, be good for a pep band. |
Man!
I've been looking at a new ride cymbal. Here's what I've come up with so far. Zildjian A Breakbeat. K Custom Dry Ride K Custom Special Dry Ride K Custom High Definition Ride A Custom Flat Top Ride A Custom Sizzle Ride K Custom Dark Ride. Basically I want a ride that is not a high pitched ping sound, but I want it to have some stick definition, so If I play like 16ths on it, it won't lose it's presence. Help Please? I was looking at the Breakbeat, and Ludvista said I might regret it later, so I came to you guys. Any other suggestions? |
Try out the HHX groove, limey boy
The rest of those are good rides (from what I've played) and you can't make a bad decision on them, I'd just say nix on the breakbeat, because I doubt it'd be as versatile as something like a K dark or K dry. Also, the bells are great on most dark cymbals, so I'd think twice before getting a flat pie. |
thanks..
anyone else? Hehe I guess no go on the breakbeat, I liked the sound, and it's cool because it's a breakbeat ride. But I guess it's like the guy who wanted to get Z customs so he could spell ZAK. |
14" AA regs or 14" Meinl Amun Mediumsoundwave?? wich!
