Ok :thumb:
But I wasn't talking about the Hollow Years cd version, but the live in budokan version SOLO. It's amazing, I've a vid of it :D |
The intro solo is nice... very tasteful. The impro at the beginning you're talking about right?
|
No. The main solo. But I like that one as well ;)
|
Oh right. Isn't it the same as on the album? I quite like the solo, it's very latino. The song always seems to me to be the kind of radio friendly pig-shit they tended to write with DS.

That one ( Replace xx's with tt ) |
I have the album... What's this? I have every version of it released?
Is it the LAB version? I'm listening to it now. |

I havent downloaded it.
I just wondered if it was the LAB version because I have it. It's an ok song I suppose, just not what I like about DT. It does the accesible radio friendly song pretty well. But that's not what DT is about at all is it? Yeah you're right. The solo is nice. |
It's catchy and sweet but the Budokan solos owned the song flat out.
|
True. And It's near to, if not at the bottom, of their repertoire. Doesn't make it a bad song though!
|
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Pertucci's backup vocals on ITNOG on the LAB DVD drive me nuts! I wish he didn't sing it... I've been thinking... I think Portnoy is a great writer...not as good as the Kevin Moore stuff from IaW and Awake, but I REALLY like his series with The Glass Prision/This Dying Soul/TROAE...those 3 songs are seriously the ones I listen to the most. I wish Kevin Moore would come back and write some songs though :) AHhh, I can dream, right? |

I think Petrucci is a way better backing vocalist than MP. You can only dream:p. I prefer Jp's writing on the I&W album. |
DT Live at Hammersmith = wow
Saw them live at the Hammersmith Apollo on tuesday. They were rather good. Better than rather good. Bloody good. The best, maybe. They were better than they were in Paris, but that may only be because they had a longer set this time. Oh, sweet god they were good. Portnoy was doing this thing where he'd switch to playing one-handed and throw his other stick to his techie, then the techie'd throw it back... they did it 3 times, cause he kinda dropped it the first two times. Jordan looked pretty fearful, cause the path of the stick nearly intersected with his head  But when Portnoy caught it the third time he got possibly the biggest cheer of the night.
Just had to get that off my chest. I was a little skeptical at first of them covering Dark Side of the Moon, but they did it with style and taste. And the guest vocalist they used had crazy skills. What IS that red box that Rudess plays? I'm deeply intrigued. I wanna get the instructional keys video he's bringing out, cause I like to dabble in keys every now and again... *breathes out* sorry if that was irrelevant or stupid in any amount of ways. |
The box is called a continuum. Portnoy commands the stage. Did JR continuum for the lap-steel bit at the beginning of Breathe?
|
I don't know DSOTM too well (speakers on PC broke like 3 days after I got the album :upset:) but if it's the part I'm thinking then he did. There was a lot of amazing continuum everywhere that night!
And yeah, Portnoy has to be the biggest attention seeker in the band :) he's great though. |
He's Dream Theater's Lars Ulrich. Without being a complete twat.

And without totally sucking at his instrument. |
My bad... forgot that bit...
The guy is a really nice guy. I met him in the noodlebar next to the Apollo during the 6DOIT tour, well I say met but I just said "hi!" and he smiled and said "Hey dude" back. He asked me to jam and we did. It was great. That's my encounter with him. Ok that was a dream:upset: Post your DT fantasies here! |

Then he asks me to join the band as lead guitarist and singer. Then I write all the band's music and fire JR. |
NO. You suck. That would destroy the essence of DT :(. But It'd still be cool. Cause I'd say "He predicted that that would happen on an internet messageboard."
|
But he has a nice beard... that makes up for any attention seeking he may do in my book.

Nice one man, quality. I like the one from Live in Japan of JM. His old bass was lush.
|
were the music videos ever released on a dvd? i've seen parts of the Lie video in the images and words/twice in a livetime trailer but don't know if they're all on that dvd. all i've ever found online is the pull me under video, but i'll probably get the dvd for christmas anyway.
also, is it worth getting the when dream and day re-unite dvd? i was thinking of getting that a while ago too, and might have that for christmas. |

Today I saw the music video for Pull Me Under on VH1 classics. This is the second time I saw the video, but I was surprised to see Dream Theater on
VH1. Did they only make Lie and Oull me Under music videos, or did they make music videos for other songs? |
