Waiting for an alibi?
and... Playing to win?
Yeah, plus the LMP limited edition also comes with the acoustic/orchestral version of Severed Ties and a video clip for I Am Death with footage from the Australian Megadeth/Nightwish/Angra tours. :) |
Ah...good music then? Or does the cover art make it seem better than it really is? :p
It's pretty good actually and highly respected by people who dig this style. My only complaint is the vocals, I'd like to hear more "grind" in them.
Stoic, I've really had time to absorb the Slough Feg album you sent me. I'd really love to do a spotlight on these guys, but I'd like to get a few more songs from some of their other albums before I put them on the list. Do you know where I can find them?
Spotlight on Slough Feg?! Jesus, the whoring is really paying off! :D If you have a little patience -its my exam period- I'll take care of it and send you a sampler sometime during the week. You cant imagine how glad I am \m/ |
Yeah, the song writing is a little simplistic but it's a good album all the same, and if you pick up the limited edition version you get 3 bonus tracks, a video clip, sticker, poster and bonus live CD from our first tour of Japan. Not bad! :)
Yea, that was the one they had. Well, that's on my list next then...:) |

Man those LMP guys love their bonus features, the bonuses on Galloglass' heavenseeker album are pretty good...except they speak german and some dvd players in my house try to put subtitles ove rthe top of other subtitles (stupid bloody things) NP - severd ties (In my god-like opinion this song has one of the best solos Dungeon have ever done) |
So, Manowar's Master Of The Wind is the greatest power metal ballad ever written.
Discuss. |
Sup thread?
Powermetal has always been one of my "secret shames", even though I'm not actually ashamed of it....:p I really enjoy bands like Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Dream Evil, Dragonforce, HammerFall, Kamelot, etc.
Iced Earth has some great rythms but i have not checked them out too much yet, I personally have never really liked power metal but i do find my self getting into them more and more because of Night Wish and Ayreon. |
Good bands there swim, Love SA.
NEVER be ashamed of the metal that is Powerful. Also, Lord Tim of Dungeon/LORD posts in this thread a bit :) |
Anyone listen to Jag Panzer or Steel Prophet?
|

Ayreon isn't power metal.. |
So, Iced Earth's A question of heaven is the greatest power metal ballad ever written.
Discuss.
Yes. |
I've never heard more than one or two Iced Earth tracks. Which album is the best?
|
Night of the stormrider or Something wicked this way comes.
You should Get alive in Athens though, it's like a live best of, and remember to get the 3-disk version, not the 2 disk one. |
Something Wicked is your favorite of their albums, right ?
Hehe, it's probably my favourite studio one.
NP-Death-to forgive is to suffer
Ah okay. Another live thing would be awsome. A DVD this time...When Barlow was still there. |
Anyone listen to Jag Panzer or Steel Prophet?
i have a Jag Panzer album in mp3 form, Casting the Stones. pretty good album actually. i find that i tend to listen to power metal when i'm driving now, it's so great. |
Anyone listen to Jag Panzer or Steel Prophet?
nope whats it like? |
Yes.
I wouldn't consider AQOH to be a ballad though. Certainly not a full blown one. |
Jag Panzer are awesome, I've only heard a bunch of tracks, but definantly a sweet band.
|
They were pretty good live at Bang Your Head last year. Nice guys too. :)
|
Are we allowed to send out samplers? I have every Jag Panzer album. I also met them at a show and got to hang out with them a bit. Very cool. I also have a few Steel Prophet discs, their cover of Accept's Fast as a Shark is the best...

Not that this has anything to do with power metal, but considering your from a well established band, what are your thoughts on music downloading? |
OK, that's a tough one.
There's 2 schools of thought on this one. The first school being that without downloading and MP3 trading, a lot of people here on this board never would have even heard about Dungeon or LORD at all. In a way, it's sort of like borrowing an album from someone to check a band out or getting a copy to listen to for a while. If someone really likes it, they become a fan and will end up buying your other stuff and your merch and going to gigs, etc. etc. So in that way, it's a good thing. The flip side of that is that some people who download your stuff may never buy your albums in the end. Whether it's because they intended to and never got around to doing it or never had any intention of doing it (hey, they have the album already - why would they bother going and buying it?), the outcome is the same. Essentially, it's taking money from my pocket that would have gone towards my hard work and money I spent making the music in the first place. People could argue that downloading doesn't really hurt an artist but it does in a few ways. A good example is that our recording budget was SEVERELY cut during the last 2 albums from our label. The reason being that they were losing money due to sales being down because of downloading. This affected us in a few ways. First of all, it made it DAMN hard to put out a world-class product with half of our budget gone (we managed - JUST.) Next, the label isn't making as much money anymore so their recording and promotional budgets are cut, which not only makes it hard for the artist to record but because their promotion isn't as good, less people know about the band than they otherwise would if there was more promo, therefore less sales. Next, because people are downloading our albums rather than buying them and then you couple that with the fact that we're not being promoted as much from our label 'cos they don't have the funds to do it, our sales are down, which means less royalties. When you're a relatively new band in the global scene, if your label sees that your sales are low, they're less keen to inject money into you when they could be pushing their more established bands who are riding out the downloading a bit better than the new kids on the block. So yeah, as you can see, downloading overall is giving us a huge butt-reaming. There's positives to it and I'll be the first to say I'm all for people trading MP3s of my music to give someone an idea of what we do, or even trading whole albums if the other person is likely to be a person who will go out and buy the product or support the band in a big way in some fashion, but sadly, that's more the exception than the rule. |
See, my theory on downloading is basically, if you want to hear the band, one or two downloaded songs won't hurt. It gives the listener a chance to hear the band, and may or may not entice them to buy the album.
Downloading whole albums I think is a bad idea, even though I do it. :( I kind of have to do it...the cd stores suck around here, I don't have a job, and I don't have a credit card where I can order this crap from online stores. For now, I'm stuck with downloading albums. |
I do agree that downloading has its ups and downs to be sure.
Personally, I don't approve of people who download whole albums with no intention of ever buying the real thing. If I like what I hear, I promise myself to buy the albums. If I really like the albums, I start buying up the T-shirts and posters as well to chip in a little extra support. As great as filesharing may be for the sake of exposure, it often turns into another case of "too much of a good thing." |
I have to say though, I wouldn't have heard of many of the bands I listen to now if not for downloading, and I now own many of their albums.
|
I'm one of the people who will go out and buy an Album after downloading if I like it. I would only be sent it from people on here, because I don't use P2P programs.
in a side note. I got Falconer- Chapters from a veil folorn Dragonforce-Inhuman Rampage LORD-A personal Journey ordered on Amazon. Me=class |
