It's kind of like a more user friendly DC++ or IRC. Basically you have the ability to arbitrarily search whatever you like, but it works best when you get a userlist going and join rooms. Then you have the ability to download one at a time or a folder (usually albums) at a time.

It's kind of slow, though, but sometimes it works to find rarer stuff (even in the blog/what/waffles era). I tend to put things in my wishlist, stuff that I either can't find or that I'm not in a rush for. That way when I leave it open, the results will just pop up when they show up.

what is slsk? I just search for hours looking for a good torrent/blog

I use isohunt with utorrent for most stuff.

Blogs and SLSK for muzak.

Torrents for pron and movies.
