Community College is the better route Shane, and the statistics are true about Uni students dropping out after a year. If you really want a 4 year degree, you'll know it after 2 years in JC. I'm getting an AA as well, so I will have at least a college degree if I choose not to transfer, which is becomming more and more appealing.
