I have both of Matisyahu's albums. I prefer Live at Stubbs but both are pretty good. For some reason, Matisyahu has quickly become incredibly trendy and popular at my school. Nearly as big as OAR, DMB, Dispatch and that stuff. I hate that, but I still enjoy his music.
Same kinda thing has happened at my school. I like Matisyahu though, but I only have Live at Stubbs. |
I have Shake of the Dust...Arise.
I used to like it more than I do now but still, it's not bad. |
I don't know why, but I've never really been able to get into reggae. I can enjoy some Bob Marley every once in a while.
Ska, now that's a totally different story. |
The Pink Floyd bootleg has been sent out. Enjoy.
I love reggae. It's just so groovin', what with the basslines and clicky guitar strumming. Dub is good too. Anything with that Jamaican feel. NP: Pink Floyd - The Trial |
Can jpj and Freud combine forces to upload the official verisions of that Claypool show? Cause it's an extreeeeeeeeemely awesome set, just hard to hear on the version I have.
Sure, if I can remember to. MMW = :thumb: Matisyahu = double :thumb: I have Live at Stubb's and Shake Off the Dust...Arise. I like Live at Stubb's better, can't wait for the new one. |
yeah i should be able to do that sometime. which one did you want?
jpj said he had the second set so i can do the first which isnt animals but has a bunch of other good covers on it. |

But if you do the first and he does the second that'd be hella awesome. And I don't throw around that term all the time. |

I like um, but I perfer the Buzzcocks or Butthole Surfers. I always clump them three and a few other bands together. I only have Songs the Lord Taught Us though. But ya I'm down with the Cramps. Their lead singer is funny to watch live... not that I've seen them in person just DVD's. |

Floyd download commence'd, 26% so far :)
I really need to buy/dl some of the early Floyd singles and albums besides PATGOD (if Schyma were here I'm sure he'd flame me for not already owning them and yet calling myself a Floyd fan :p ) Listened to some Dead today at school. I'm gonna ask a very noobish question, but is Hunter just the lyricist for the band? I mean, he writes the lyrics, and that's it? I never really understood... |
Yea, that's pretty much all he did. He didn't write all the lyrics, but a good bit were Garcia/Hunter.

He worships PATGOD and seems to enjoy the Waters era a lot too, but not really the in between period. I'm not positive on that though. Hunter was only a songwriter but he was a very good one. I believe that Jerry Garcia collaborated with him on the lyrics. I get to bring in an album for my music class that we listen to and talk about. I'm thinking Traffic- John Barleycorn Must Die because Traffic gets unfortunately overlooked and deserves more attention. |
Hunter and Garcia are excellent songwriters.
My favorite of course :) |

John Barleycorn Must Die is awesome. I think it's my favorite Traffic album. |
John Barleycorn Must Die is awesome. I think it's my favorite Traffic album.
I think the original album is nearly perfect. It's one of those albums where the two bonus tracks don't seem necessary. Don't get me wrong, the bonus tracks are good, but they kind of disrupt the flow. Glad, Freedom Rider, Empty Pages, and John Barleycorn are all perfect songs. Steve Winwood is seriously awesome. I think I might buy Traffic's entire discography eventually, because all of their albums seem solid from what I've heard. All I have is John Barleycorn, s/t, and Welcome to the Canteen, so I've got a ways to go. |
I about shat myself the first time I heard Glad. I was like
I have s/t, John Barleycorn Must Die, Low Spark For High-Heeled Boys, and Welcome to the Canteen. |

Ok, yes, I agree Hunter is a very good songwriter, I just wanted to make that clear with myself, for a while before I knew their names I thought Hunter was one of the drummers  I knew that Garcia and Weir played Guitar, Lesh played bass, that they had different piano/organ players all the time, and so my only assumption was that. I know Schyma might not like the transition stuff, but I'm pretty sure he likes all the pre-PATGOD Syd singles and stuff too, that's primo early Floyd stuff. That reminds me of the awesome video for See Emily Play. edit: I can't believe none of the Deadheads in here (*cough* jpj/JonG *cough*) have said anything about my avatar/ut yet :upset: |
Yeah, they've had their share of keys/piano players.
Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. Bill was the drummer, Mickey played percussion. They were both pretty solid. Though, Mickey left after Workingman's Dead, then re-joined.Kreutzmann stayed in the band through it's entirety, until Jerry died of course. :| The keys/piano order is confusing sometimes. Pigpen>Constanten>Godchaux>Mydland>Welnick>Hornsby Way too many :x |

OMG ITZ TERRAPIN STATION!!1!@!1! :amaze: Phil Lesh owned the hell out of that song when I saw him.
Mickey played percussion
All of the videos I've seen he's playing a normal kit too. His style was very different from what you would find in your standard rock band though (but we all know the Dead aren't your standard rock band.) |

Haha, my dad has a few vinyls of them. I asked him if he liked them, and he said he prefers The Damned. |

I got: Big Bill Broonzy - Good Time Tonight Grateful Dead - Go To Heaven Grateful Dead - In The Dark Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere For 20 bucks. |
Sorry, I guess I just really like that album cover and was hoping someone would acknowledge it  For some reason it feels like something I would draw. I guess the weirdest thing was that the first time I even heard the phrase "Terrapin Station" I instantly got a mental image of two or three turtles sitting at some abandoned train station waiting for a train to come. Kind of creepy how close I was :amaze:
Am I the only one who thinks Truckin' has some of the best Dead lyrics ever? Pretty much every stanza is great, actually I can't think of a single one that I don't love, the whole song is either humorous or just plain groovy, and the lyrics flow so well, I just can't get over it. Not to mention it having a great bassline and awesome licks from Garcia. Sittin' and starin' out of the holes in your window Got a tip, they're gonna kick the door in again I'd like to get some sleep before I travel, But if you got a warrant, I guess you're gonna come in Sorry, couldn't help myself. I'm on a Dead streak I guess, if anyone has any bootlegs or anything they want to send out, :) Someone was nice enough to send out Aoxomaoxo or whatever one time, but for some reason my computer wouldn't download it right :( |

I like the lyrics in Brokedown Palace a lot. Actually, just about every song on American Beauty has beautful lyrics. That album has the most consistently brilliant lyrics of any of their albums. I could send out Aoxomoxoa.
np- The Who- Success Story |
Aoxomoxoa is awesome. I finally figured out how to say it though :p
Ox-oh-mox-oh-uh :) |
Plus, supposedly Broke-Down Palace is from a Steinbeck novel, Cannery Row, and it's what the bums call the dilapidated warehouse they live in. I wish I hadn't read that fact and read the book first, I would have felt so awesome if I had realized that all of a sudden by myself :p
That graffiti link was really cool, what the hell was that cop doing just standing there? I assume he thought it was cool, I hope he just didn't want to start something without any backup, but if I was a graffiti-hating cop I totally would have popped a cap in one of their legs just for being idiots and doing it in broad daylight, so to speak. Still awesome though. |

What in the world ever became of sweet jane? She lost her sparkle, you know she isn’t the same Livin’ on reds, vitamin c, and cocaine, All a friend can say is ain’t it a shame?
I heard that the "livin' on reds vitamin c, and cocain all a friend can say is ain't it a shame" was a parody of a tv commercial at the time and was an inside joke between the band. My favorite Dead lyrics would have to be Box of Rain. Speaking of Box of Rain, I have a music ethics quistion. I recently wrote a song where the chorus sounds like some of the singing in Box of Rain. I didn't do it on purpose it was just what popped into my mind when I sat down to sing it. Today listening to Box of Rain I realized for the first time that it sounded similar. The chorus sounds great I think singing that way and I would hate to change it, espeically because I didn't even realize what I was doing. Is this another case of "My Sweet Lord" all over again? |
What happened with My Sweet Lord?
And by the way, that's a very good question, and it's hard to answer. I think that in this case it would be alright, you didn't steal the song or anything. But it almost comes down to a case-by-case situation, and you have to decide for yourself. I would be so scared to write music, because I like so many songs and I would emulate their style subconsciously and it might end up being too close and I could get in trouble :( Copyright laws and music ethics get so infringementy and gray areas and all that, it's just so much stuff to deal with. |
I'm starting to get attached to "Go To Heaven".
Antwerp's Placebo is so random. |

There is another song that is VERY similar to it (the name escapes me) and the author brought Harrison to court. It was decided that Harrison subconsciously copied the song very close to what you just explained. I love writting lyrics though it is fusterating when you write something and find out its close to something else, but I still love it. For some reason the world seems so much simplier when everything rhymes and has a rytheme. |
I'm listening to that Floyd bootleg right now, it's pretty awesome. I've been somewhat ashamedly skipping around, so far I've only listened to One Of These Days fully, and right now Echoes. I love the crowd applauding at the end, it's something you'd never expect in a Floyd song somehow I guess. This Echoes version is awesome, I kind of like the effect of the high-hat in the intro.
I'm actually skipping over the Atom Heart Mother material becuase, again, ashamedly, I haven't heard it yet. I have really grown an appreciation for long, beautiful songs, and I've heard that AHM is full of them, so I really should buy it. Speaking of which, I need some Allman Brothers. I don't know how that relates, but... yeah. |
