Heh. We had a protest to legalize weed here a little while back, everybody was smoking dope in front of the police station and the cops didn't do anything.

holy crap.

Thickasabrick, didn't you say you got pulled over WHILE smoking a bowl and you got off easy? That would get you jail time here

Viva la Canada

I've got pulled over once while I had a joint in my mouth, a couple times while the car was hotboxed. They've taken our drugs before but they always send us on our way after. It's fairly slack, as long as you don't have alcohol.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-22-2005 04:54 PM

thickasabrick: I envy you. :amaze:

leppermessiah: It's OK if you like them and all I'm just saying.

Kidding :p

thickasabrick 08-22-2005 05:03 PM

I don't necessarily hate The Monkees, I just have no respect for them as musicians. Plus I remember one of them saying some really arrogant remarks regarding their success and mentioning something about Hendrix.

I like some of "their" songs though.

Badmoon 08-22-2005 05:16 PM
Me and my 2 other friends pitched in together and ended up with 17 grams for the weekend. We didn't even smoke it all, we smoked a lot with other people too. If you started smoking somewhere, within about five minutes it'd be a circle with like at least 20 people in it. Although if we wanted to smoke up just the 3 of us we either stayed in the tent or made a little circle in the middle of the hemp field.

We got asked if we could sell weed, we could have made quite a bit of money although anytime someone asked to buy some we would just smoke them up. Saturday night was the best, the reggae band was called Sound Foundation and they were beyond amazing. At first there were only a couple people standing and dancing, by the end of their set there was like a hundred people all dancing. I sooo stoned that night, we had been literally smoking up for like 24 hours straight, plus I had a decent amount of wine.Heh. thickasabrick 08-22-2005 05:35 PM

Which band/artist do you guys think appeals to the most genres? Like who is most liked and respected by fans of most different genres? I'm thinking Johnny Cash, since he appeals to country, folk, rock, anything rebellious really, and anything that involves storytelling etc. What do you guys think?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-22-2005 06:01 PM

The Beatles easily. Almost everyone around that period no matter what kind of music you were into almost everyone loved the Beatles. The most loved band of all time. That's not just an opinion either. It's hard not to like those guys.

Sublime also appeals alot of people stoners/punks/rappers/raggae fans.

thickasabrick 08-22-2005 06:23 PM

Yeah Med mentioned all the ones that were on my mind. Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley. Even if someone doesn't enjoy listening to one of those bands/artists, I'm pretty sure every respects them. When you think of it, it's really just all the best songwriters.

Sublime is well liked and respected among younger crowds, I don't think they are as well liked and respected among older crowds.

edit- Certainly you have more than five hundred posts, Med?

Badmoon 08-22-2005 06:24 PM

It's The Beatles. When I was in Mexico I saw a bunch of different kinds of bands playing Beatles songs.

One a Rock band that played "Can't Buy Me Love"
Another a Bass, Drum and Keyboard trio that played "Piggies" and "When I'm 64"
And a Mariachi Band that played "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", which was insane.

That's just an example of how The Beatles influence goes outside of Britian, Canada, USA, etc

JonG 08-22-2005 06:45 PM

Badmoon, I just downloaded Gris-gris from the YSI thread. And so far, I like it. I just decided to download it, since you said it was good.

I never knew there was a CR magazine. I subscribe to Guitar World, that's about it.

Yeah, it's one of my favorite albums; I consider pretty much perfect. I made a bunch of mixes with slices of that album in them.

I saw a magazine that was CR related, but didn't pick it up.

It had Led Zeppelin on the cover.

Badmoon 08-22-2005 07:22 PM

Mojo is a Classic Rock magazine.

classicrockman 08-22-2005 08:19 PM

I really like 'Classic Rock' magazine, but I only buy it on the newstands because it's made in England. :upset: Therefore, I would have to pay in British pounds. But I did buy the last issue, which had great reports on:

AC/DC, Dream Theater, Ian Hunter, 40 greatest power ballads, and a good one on Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes.

Were there any great power ballands? i didn't notice

Rolling Stone can be interesting, an extremely corporate, guilty pleasure of a magazine.

jpj 08-22-2005 08:25 PM

I've only read one issue, but Relix seems to be a pretty cool jam band magazine.

Yea, I saw something about that on TV and read about it in Rolling Stone, sucks.

I hope you all exercise your right to vote for Widespread Panic, being the decent law-abiding CR regulars you all are :p

ATM 08-22-2005 08:44 PM

I listened to Peter Gabriel for the first time at work today.

Glitterati 08-22-2005 08:45 PM

That sucks about CBGB's :( A lot of history in that place.
I listened to Peter Gabriel for the first time at work today.
And? What'd you think?

Jam2Me 08-22-2005 08:48 PM

I went to Allman Brothers/moe. last night...it was obviously frickin' awesome. They played all their great songs, the highlights were a Derek and the Dominos cover of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" it's kind of an obscure cover but I just happened to be playing that CD on the way up so I was all over it. Then the guitarist from moe. Al Schnier came out and jammed with ABB minus Gregg they did an amazing cover of "Franklin's Tower" featuring Oteil on lead vocals. That jam last about 7 minutes they played some riffs from "Truckin' " in the middle of the jam and then flowed back into "Franklin's Tower." moe. was pretty awesome as an opener but they had a weak close..they played a watered down jam and they left it at that. As long as they played "Happy Hour Hero" it satisifed me so I was happy. All in all it was a sick *** concert with lots of pot and black and milds and the stars were out it was really awesome.

jpj 08-22-2005 08:51 PM
amazing cover of "Franklin's Tower"
Well, that show was obviously a hundred times better than the one I was at :upset:

If I remember correctly they opened with Statesboro Blues, and the encore was a very odd version of Southbound with Al Schnier.

bah! /jealous
It sounds like I have something to look forward to next weekend. I will miss moe. though. That's really cool that they played Franklin's Tower

Did you happen to see any girls with huge blonde (pink?) dreads? Hahah... My friend Jenny was the only one I know who got to go to it, as unlikely as that is

Jam2Me 08-22-2005 09:11 PM

I actually saw like 3 or 4 blondes with dreads so I probly saw her unknowingly.

I wrote down the set list kinda..

They opened up with Stand Back>the low point was when they played two songs from Hittin' the Note that I don't remember> they bounced back with Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad>Franklin's Tower>Midnight Rider>One Way Out>Drums Solo (15 minutes..it was eh ok)>Bass Solo (really good)>Black Hearted Woman>Encore>Whipping Post>Melissa>Little Martha They kinda had two encores because they all left then Gregg came back out with an acoustic and they played more. They were supposed to stop at 10:30 I think but they played 'til 11.

I'm not a big fan of "Whipping Post" live, including the version on Live at Fillmore...Gregg's vocals are so off in the chorus it just ruins everything...they crowd is singing along then he has his offbeat singing it just doesn't fit, it could be better.

jpj 08-22-2005 09:18 PM

I really like Hittin' the Note, they played Woman Across the River, Maydelle, Instrumental Illness, and they may have played Rockin' Horse I can't quite remember. All those songs are kickass.

yeah, Bob Dylan sort of did that with "Like A Rolling Stone", but you could hear the entire place singing/chanting it, so it was pretty cool

barrett420 08-22-2005 10:09 PM

Just bought a really cool Frank Zappa and a Syd Barrett shirt.

I'm so excited, don't get shirts too often. Can't wait till they arrive. :D
