im **** at guitar and cant seem to get any better :(
use a metronome?

gaslight 02-04-2009 01:38 AM

My band was artist of the week on FBi a while ago, can't say I've ever listened to the station though.

If you aren't getting any better you need to practise new things and stretch yourself, work on any weaknesses, set clearly defined goals etc.

I find just sitting and playing for hours is a good way to get better too.

RunAmokRampant 02-04-2009 01:54 AM

I find that if I am getting frustrated with a passage in a piece of music, I just stop playing and come back to it later and I usually improve vastly compared to last time. Sometimes I even nail it perfectly first try.

gaslight 02-04-2009 01:57 AM

I got a sick jazz album today. It's excellent to relax to.

Yeah, if you're stuck on something, play it slower and slower until you play it at the speed where you nail it the first attempt. Then practise in increasing increments of speed until you have it correct. For bonus fun try doing it faster than the real tempo. That's a good, reliable methodical approach to learning.

Obviously wouldn't do it every time though, it's more for very challenging pieces.

Being able to play something slower than written but in perfect time is far better than being able to play something in bursts of unsteady time.

big80smullet 02-04-2009 01:59 AM

Its not that i stuck on anything specific i just have no direction with my music and no real motivation to improve. I need to get some lessons or get in a band or something

gaslight 02-04-2009 02:01 AM

Yeah improvement without motivation is pretty hard to come by.

Alf™ 02-04-2009 02:30 AM

43 on saturday :(

horseypie 02-04-2009 02:33 AM

yuuuuck

im so glad im not playing golf this weekend

gaslight 02-04-2009 02:37 AM

Same.

I'm pretty stoked, I just realised I'll easily be able to offer traypacks (including double CD traypacks) as part of my CD printing business. Good times.

horseypie 02-04-2009 02:38 AM

Today, I sprayed hair spray under my arms instead of anti-perspirant. I didn't realize it until I went to put my shirt on and couldn't raise my arms. FML

gaslight 02-04-2009 02:42 AM

Haha dude.

That's like in Red Dwarf where Lister is shaving and sprays his face with deoderant, looks confused for a second then sticks his hands under his armpits and they come out covered in foam.

Aaron 02-04-2009 02:43 AM
the only way to do that better is to let yourself air dry
That's what I'm doing. Does that startle you that I'm naked? Does it arouse you? Do these feelings of arousal make you think of chips and gravy?

horseypie 02-04-2009 02:43 AM

lol i can imagine that

i love that kind of comedy

Aaron 02-04-2009 03:06 AM

I like obtuse comedy like that. It's not odd for me to email my whole team at work a picture of a dog, just because I like dogs.

Aaron 02-04-2009 03:09 AM

Dogs are cool. My dog does very good bear impersonations.

gaslight 02-04-2009 03:10 AM

Yeah I like to weird people out too.

I'll like, make a point of stuffing my pocket with cafe sugar packets, then at uni when I put my phones and whatever on my desk I dump heaps of sugar packets with them.

Aaron 02-04-2009 03:13 AM

haha that's a good one. I line things up with rulers at my desk. Like, my diary, pens, my keyboard, everything. Just cause I can.

And in other news apparently I've made 410 threads in my time on mx. lol.

big80smullet 02-04-2009 03:13 AM

lol i do that but with kfc moist towlettes when im drunk and then in the morning i dont remember where they came from

Go the extra mile and start straightening other people's things.

big80smullet 02-04-2009 03:26 AM

haha oh dear ive made 244 threads. Some truly terrible ones

gaslight 02-04-2009 03:29 AM

Your posting in this thread is medal-worthy.

Based on the ad I just saw I totally want to see The Last House On The Left.
lol i do that but with kfc moist towlettes when im drunk and then in the morning i dont remember where they came from
One time, I kid you not, a friend of mine opened one of those moist towlettes except there was not towlette, just the soap.

gaslight 02-04-2009 03:32 AM

That's somewhat inconvenient.

I like to play.
I wrote two song on the train on the way home from work.

horseypie 02-04-2009 03:34 AM

lol we went to a pub in sydney the night before big day out and in the pokies room there was a little bowl of candy for people to eat while playing the pokies

i filled my pockets slyly throughout the night and kept offering people candy around the bar, calling myself 'the candyman'
i got back to the hotel and i had 4 plastic beer cups full of candy left

gaslight 02-04-2009 03:34 AM

What are they like?

It's gonna be a double CD album by the time we release it :p.

Speaking of the album, is the first track Seed Matrix or Seed Matrice?

Aaron 02-04-2009 03:38 AM

If cynic stopped playing metal and went ambient

RunAmokRampant 02-04-2009 03:50 AM

Speaking of Cynic, that new album is tops. Evolutionary Sleeper is a wicked song.

Aaron 02-04-2009 03:55 AM

Yeah it's excellent.
