Yeah I watched it with commentary about a week ago. He blames everything basically on the record label. Most of the album was cut down because of the producer cause there label didn't let them produce it themselves. Also, all the songs written on FII by Portnoy are about the record label, E.g You Not Me, New Millenium, Burning My Soul, Take Away My Pain.
You Not Me and Take Away My Pain are written by Petrucci though. |
First song I heard was One Last Time, then Overture 1928.
But yeah, I hope they will do 10 more albums before they retire, look at Rolling Stones.
Their tours had better have better sets than the 8V tour, they played most of the album and probably the worst two songs off the best two albums (Under a Glass Moon and Caught in a Web) |

Its one of my favorite songs. NP: DT - Voices |
Damn, I haven't listened to DT in soooo long...
I guess I've been to pre occupied with less wanky bands. /runs  Seriously though, I need to throw Awake in sometime today... |
My card got rejected by Amazon, because the money I put in my bank account before New year hasn't gone in yet...
So no LSFNY CD for me for a few days. :( |

under a glass moon > pull me under labrie hits some ungodly high notes in that chorus. and petrucci's solo kicks ultimate ass. |
What's on the LSFNY CD, the whole concert?
Yep, spread over three CDs. Its quite an album. |
under a glass moon > pull me under

I remember the first time I discovered Dream Theater. At the time I had been listening to and Led Zeppelin and stuff like but someone reccomended me I&W. I was so blown away I never really listened to any "classic r:rolleyes:ck again. Those were good times.
|
Yes, but Every other song on I&W > those 2
to be honest take the time has never done much for me. when i first got images and words another day and under a glass moon were my favorites. now the only two songs that i don't absolutely love are pull me under and take the time. wait for sleep/learning to live is the only one of the others that really jumps out as my favorite. |
Anybody remember listening to Metropolis pt. 1 for the first time and being blown away?
|
No.
I remember listening to 6:00 (my first DT song)... ...and going "wtf". I'm now a fanboy...yay. |
Anybody remember listening to Metropolis pt. 1 for the first time and being blown away?
I do... I also remember listening to surrounded over and over again. The vocals at the end still are one of my favourite vocal parts to any song ever. |
Anybody remember listening to Metropolis pt. 1 for the first time and being blown away?
Yeh, it's the perfect amount of cheese and wankery as well as your standard DT kick *** moments. mmm... bass solo. Images and Words is definitely DT's greatest album (at the moment). LEARNING TO LIVE!!! I'd go to bed with that song over any attractive female any day. |

little worried about you mate  anyone who accuses DT of wanking too much is probably just jealous :naughty: jk. sometimes it is excessive. like the last minute of this dying soul. it's like. wtf. you can shred 16th notes for an entire minute at 200+ bpm but it sounds like cow poo. but i for one love much of the wanking  |

Woah. I am definately buying that. |
Ok, i just recently signed up ibn this forum and its been great and this is the exact thread ive beebn looking for. Dream Theater are ****ing ridiculous. I've been playing bass for just a little over 5 years now and listening to DT for about 1 and a bit. Since jumping into this kind of music my playing ability has skyrocketed. I saw then in montreal when they were on the TOT tour with Yes and i actually got to meet them aftrewards! I brought my bass all the way over to get it signed!! Ive now been playing drums for 6 months and portnoy was actually the one who inspired me to start. :thumb:
Hmm, my first DT song... i belive it was Fatal Tragedy (awesome song) that my amazing guitarist friend showed me and at first i must say i was a little skeptical. But once i got into them there's no turning back. My fovorite album is defenitly Images and Words, tons of great tunes. When it comes to there powerful writing theres no comparision, The way they manipulate each riff and do it melodically. They're great. The one thing i can't stand is someone who sais that mike portnoy is a show off. He does have a ridiculously large kit but tell me you wouldnt play that over a 4 peice... and if you do i dont believe you. ANY WAYS. thats my rant for now. Back to school work... Nice to meet fellow DT Fans!! :chug: |

hey i just found out that some german named Fritz Lang made a science fiction film called Metropolis, and guess what year.. 1926! :P
I dont know if this is old news, but it is a little funny, altough it seems the story has nothing to do with Dream Theaters Metropolis. |
jk. sometimes it is excessive. like the last minute of this dying soul. it's like. wtf. you can shred 16th notes for an entire minute at 200+ bpm but it sounds like cow poo.
I think it sounds awesome. DT songs can have incredibly techinical and fast solos, but they all sound amazing, maybe with the exception of some of JR's on ToT where hes just trying to sound like a guitar. There's also an anime called Metropolis that came out a couple years ago.

I think that it's easily DT's best. I love concept albums so much. They just seem so full rather than just a collection of random songs. |
Motorhead's Metropolis > DT's Metropolis
...j/k :p |
Motorhead's Metropolis > DT's Metropolis
