Well, it was Earth before Black Sabbath, but before that it was something Earth, and before that something daft with Pulk or something in the title...but I can't recall what.:upset: |
Polka Tulk, I am so smart, I am so smart S M R T, I mean S M A R T, hehe love that line.
Anyhoo I heard that Gillan story too, thought it was hilarious. So do you like the non-ozzy stuff better do you? So does brum. Hey that's funny considering your username. Oh and welcome to the forums. |
I'm just a total Dio-whore.
Dio>Ozzy>Gillan Gillan - don't get me started - I hate Born Again with a passion I normally reserve for French cheese. |
ok, well i bought the set, it covers Sabbath from Jun68 (lineup = Ozzy, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Tony Iommi) till Jun88. in this time, Sabbath had 12 different lineups. the box set contains a "family tree" and shows how and where band members came from/went to. for example "after a day of drinking, Ian Gillian woke up to find he'd agreed to become sabbaths new singer" :p
so far, sounds good, especially like the later stuff, haven't really herd much of it before
Sounds like a good buy mate. anyone ever read the book 'Paranoid'? on the cover it says glory days with sabbath and other hard rock bands (or something like that), it hardly mentions sabbath most of the book is about the authers addiction to drugs!
I'm just a total Dio-whore. I forgot about him.
I still like RJD best of all. and no, it's not a physical thing:p |

Oh and welcome to the forums.
Yeh i'm an avid Ozzy fan, and i'd just never really heard Sabbath since Ozzy, so it makes an interesting change. not sure if i like it better, but its certainly up there. for those of you who want 2 checkout the playlist, see http://www.music.com/release/under_wheels_of_confusion:_1970-1987/1/ although it doesnt say which songs go with which album... |
^btw, its got 52 tracks
...also listened to "Master of Reality". Nice and heavy..... i like |

Martin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other sabbath singers
My personal order is Ozzy>Dio>Martin>Gillan(only because his work with Purple is better), dont really know about Hughes. Also what is wrong with the Born Again album RumBoy? On another note, I am looking out to buy some Black Sabbath albums on vinyl, if I find a brand new one, sealed and all that. Is it possible the sound on it would be remastered? |
In 2002 (I think) the Ozzy era albums were re-released on vinyl, I'm not sure if they were remastered or not though.
|
speaking of records.there is this new laser record player that plays vinyl records with a laser like a cd.it can play the record without damaging it.the only draw back to it is that it costs $15,000.here is a link to an article about it.
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/992/scan00082ev.jpg i personally wouldnt pay that much to listen to records.and i have/had two black sabbath records.i would have to see if i still got them in storage.theyre not in good condition but they still play.i have/had paranoid and sabbath bloody sabbath on vinyl. |
Ive seen Heaven and Hell brand new on vinyl. twas $40 though. So I bought Dehuminizer on CD for $25. On the topic of Dehuminizer, was it ever released on vinyl?
|
Can anyone tell me which album has a non-live version of Iron Man?
|
rippa - I'm not sure, I don't think it was.
Grimm - Paranoid, track 4. |
Damn, that cover art would look great 12". So anyhoo whats Mob Rules(the album) like?
|

I was talking more about singing talent rather than how much i like their eras/albums. I need you lots help i heard a Dio song on Scuzz yesturday that i loved but i can't remember what it is called, i think it has Heaven in the title, any ideas what it could be? |

I just hate it - the artwork on the sleeve is godawful, the music is terrible, and Gillan's voice grates on my ears and makes me tremble and start looking for sharp objects with which to harm people - viz. Mr Gillan, if he were in range. Reasons why I don't like Ian Gillan a) His voice is nasty (to my ears) b) He was in the most overrated band in history (leave you to guess that one...clue; it wasn't his own band, Gillan, cos everyone knows that sucked) c) He joined Sabbath after they'd had the unique Ozzy, and the awesome Dio. It was like sacrilege to me (don't forget I remember all this happening), and the dungpile of an album he did with them just about put the tin hat on it. The only saving grace on that entire album is the riff of Zero The Hero - not the song, just the riff. /takes a big breath after rantage |
Well I like it, I also like the cover art, I have never understood why people hate it so much. The only thing I do not like is the mixing its so sludgy you can barely hear the guitar.
Hey I finally got a Sabbath record on vinyl today, Technical Ecstacy. I don't have a stylus in the turntable at the moment seeing as how I broke the old one. What is really pissing me off though is I looked at it in the shop and noticed only a couple of small scratches but after getting it home and really looking the quality is not great at all and I payed AUS$15 for it, yet I payed the same price for Led Zeppelin's Houses Of The Holy and its immaculate(well almost). So theres my rant, I feel much better now. |
That's the big drawback with vinyl - durability. One heavy-handed idiot and/or rubbish or worn-out stylus and it's snap, crackle and pop for the rest of its days
or even worse, it kee.. even worse it kee.. even worse it kee.. doing that. Which you can't see before playing it |
dio with sabbath or just dio?
It was just Dio. if it helps at the start it had a demonic sort of voice talking about crossing a rainbow bridge, the video was a live style one with a dragons head and crap like that on the stage |

The only one that comes to mind is American Psycho by The Misfits, the last track (Hell Night) has a repeating/skipping section somewhere in the middle. I have one album on vinyl thats really bad, it can skip from the middle of a verse to the chorus in some songs :-\ |
A couple of my dad's Beatles albums do that, he lent em to someone who didn't take care of them. I fixed by adjusting the weight on the tone arm but that can wear both the record and stylus alot faster.
Oh shadow stalker I think ive seen bits of the video but not actually heard the music from it. It could be the song Sacred Heart though. |
So one of my favorite bass tones ever is Geezer's on the whole SBS album. Anyone know what his gear was for that album?
|
I don't, but brum might, hes a bass player.
|
So one of my favorite bass tones ever is Geezer's on the whole SBS album. Anyone know what his gear was for that album?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think he was using Laney amps on the SBS album. No idea what bass he was using. His tuning on that album is C#F#BE. |
I thought Master Of Reality and Vol 4 where the only albums to have C# tuning and the rest were D. But maybe you're right.
|
Sabbra Cadabra is played in C#, I'm pretty sure the rest of the album is aswell.
Past Lives came in the post this morning, Live at Last sounds much better than the dodgy version I downloaded ages ago, and Disc 2 sounds interesting. Its the standard version of the album though, I didn't get a poster or plectrum :( |

Hungry For Heaven - Sacred Heart /sorted :thumb: |
Wicked World on Past Lives =

i think the best ozzy era sabbath songs are Gypsy, you cant change me, johnny blade and snowblind
|

You sir, are a wise man. So ya wanna be a Gypsy, woooohhhhahhhh... |
i think the best ozzy era sabbath songs are Gypsy, you cant change me, johnny blade and snowblind
 Other than snowblind, wtf? Sabbath took a definite turn for the worse after Sabotage...the only song I really dig on Technical Ecstacy is Dirty Women and while Never Say Die is better, it still all sounds kind of contrived to me. |
I don't really see anything spectacular about Dirty Women, its never really grabbed my attention.

I have no idea how you can say that Deep Purple is the most overrated band ever, have you actually listened to anything by them Smoke on the Water? |
^^^^ Yes, I'm afraid I have heard lots of DP. I think I expained my dislike in my post you quoted above. Actually, SOTW is one of their songs I like better than most, along with Black Night.
I am allowed not to rate them, aren't I?:) Edit - sorry old chap, not the post you quoted, but one further up this page. |
