Canada's Number 1 classic rock Station Q107 Had the top 107 songs(listener's choice) guess what number 1 was.
how did Bob dylan go?

RockAndRoll 09-08-2004 07:48 PM

I'm probably going to see Jethro Tull! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

magicbus 09-08-2004 07:58 PM

**** i missed a lot. Roy Harper sings on have a cigar (a british singer in that time, not in floyd), the oz one isn't that great. The Wall is amazing. I've gained a completely new respect for the cd after watching the movie. It was unbelievable. I'm getting it this weekend.

Piper at the gates of dawn is sweet, but its more rock than psychadelic. Like simpler riffs, like the beatles or kinks (what it reminds me of at least), but don't get me wrong, its definently trippy nonetheless. Especially Syd's lyrics. What else... Wish You Were Here is probably one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, Pink Floyd cds. Animals is cool, although unpopular. Give it a shot. I have Meddle on vinyl, and I'd buy it just for Echoes (23 minutes long!), but the other songs are great. One of these days is fun to listen to stoned, cause it has crazy reverse delay.

I pride myself in my knowledge of Floyd. Ask me some questions! :thumb:

Creedence Clearwater 09-08-2004 08:09 PM

is it true that david Gilmour owns the fender stratocaster from 1954 with the serial number 001?

magicbus 09-08-2004 08:12 PM

Yea. I just read that recently, though. But yea its one of his guitars. Don't know if he was the first owner or whatever, though.

Creedence Clearwater 09-08-2004 08:14 PM

I think i heard that it had that serial number but came of the production line a few months after production began

magicbus 09-08-2004 08:15 PM

Oh, so it could've been a mistake.

Creedence Clearwater 09-08-2004 08:18 PM

Yeh, it would still be cool though to own a 50 year old stratocaster

Bet I know more :D Sorry you act like you haven't herd Live in London 66 67 or the early Floyd  ..........Rare stuff

magicbus 09-08-2004 08:23 PM

I've heard the early stuff, listening to Saucerful of Secrets right now ;) . You got me on the live stuff though, I've only heard a few live albums.

Also I didn't want to come off sounding cocky, I wanted to help people out with questions.
is it true that david Gilmour owns the fender stratocaster from 1954 with the serial number 001?
Probably.

I'm getting a strat that's almost the same guitar as his. Almost, he had some work done on it. It's the light blue one.

magicbus 09-08-2004 08:26 PM

I can't wait till I get my American Strat. Should be within the next 2 weeks, if I have the time to check into it.

MusicRevival 09-08-2004 08:27 PM

Man I was amazed that it took as many posts it did for the freaking Velvet Underground to come up! Lou Reed is god!

Ive been listening to the same music since fourth grade, classic rock and old grunge. Clasic rock is just music...we need the old whipersnappers to start teaching the new "musicians" a lesson on music!

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-08-2004 08:27 PM

Most Saucerful of Secrets is bad except Syd's legendary Jugband Blues.

Oh, I meant the one off Ummagumma.

Against Miik! 09-08-2004 08:29 PM

Has anybody ever heard Stormbringer by Deep Purple? Amazing song. People should hear it before they hear Smoke on the Water, which is the most overrated classic rock song.

Yeah i'm getting an American strat. Hand made with a humbucker. It's going to be sweet.

Quite a first post. Quite a first post indeed.

Employing the old "swoop in and leave" technique, possibly.

Hope to hear more from you. Lou Reed was a cool guy, and I have some issues with a lot of new rock, but... you can't limit yourself in your tastes. You have to reach out and explore and you may find oyu like a lot more than you thought.

Sorry. I have a little bit of a neurotic tendecy towards perfectionism, and I can be a bit of a jerk sometimes. I freely admit it. Mostly, I really don't mean anything mean by a lot of what I say. Still, I am working on it.

I'll try to lighten up a bit. Sorry, Bro. :thumb:

No negativity in the Classic Rock thread unless needed. Me and RocknotRoll learned that the hard way :(

Indeed.

The classic rock isn't a harsh place. That's not what classic rock is about. If somebody says something you don't like, calmly debate it.

No he didn't. But that's fine.

He has an all right voice. I like it. He was just a brilliant songwriter. His songs sounded good and had meaning.

Spectrum 09-08-2004 09:12 PM

Well, since you put it that way, he never really had a great voice. It just sounded a hell of a lot better in the 60's. I respect Dylan highly and agree with you totally. I was just making a harmless joke.

I asked this before, but, does "Rush" count as Classic Rock?

-Mike

MalcolmYoungRock 09-08-2004 09:14 PM

Yeh, it does.

I'm not sure anyone cares, but in my thread Thinking About a New Guitar...

I've decided on an Ibanez Artcore AXD71BK.
http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=AXD71

I played it at the shop and it was beautiful. Matched my style exactly.

Yes, Rush is classic rock.

Spectrum 09-08-2004 09:15 PM

Okay, so Rush counts. How the Hell does he sing that way?

BludgeonySteve 09-08-2004 09:18 PM

Step 1. Take Knife.

Step 2. Put testicles on cutting board.

Step 3. :amaze: You know what to do.

Sorry if that was a little graphic but it's my best guess.

Against Miik! 09-08-2004 09:19 PM

:Ouch face:

MalcolmYoungRock 09-08-2004 09:21 PM

So, the guy who sings for Rush is a eunuch? Strange...

Spectrum 09-08-2004 09:25 PM

It was interesting to listen to that guy sing. Later on, I was at a friend's house, and a Coheed & Cambria song comes on. The guy sounds almost exactly the same, and is singing in the same range. Seriously, the similarity of the two singers is a little strange.

Possibly not though...

As I was being driven home (five days, man...), a Linkin Park song came on the radio (I tolerated). Interesting to note that as the guy was hitting notes that guys normally don't hit, I began to notice that his voice took on similar traits in tone as the guys from Rush and Coheed & Cambria. I think it might be something of a technique to get a voice that high that requires a higher voice to start and is somewhat standardized amongst some artist who choose to sing higher.

Just a thought.

-Mike

BludgeonySteve 09-08-2004 09:37 PM

It's falsetto singing methinks.... Mehopes

MalcolmYoungRock 09-08-2004 09:42 PM

That would be frightful if it was his real voice.

Spectrum 09-08-2004 09:48 PM
It's falsetto singing methinks.... Mehopes
After being a member of Chorus and Chamber Singers and having to sing tenor in falsetto and listen to it, I really don't think that's falsetto. I have a friend who has the biggest guy range ever - low bass to high soprano. Not kidding. This guy has pulled off high Cs that sopranos have a hard time with. Chrissakes, he sang the girl's part in "Phantom of the Opera"! Hearing him sing in his falsetto range equivalent to the Rush and Coheed & Cambria guys, I think they're in the natural voice.

Yipes!

BludgeonySteve 09-08-2004 09:53 PM

I like. Nice looking, and you can't go wrong with an F hole. I want a semi-hollow like a sheraton or something, but they're too expensive. Probably going to get an OLP MM1. I need a second guitar because I'm too lazy to change tunings.
