Oh yeah, my bro gave me some Mars Volta, i should listen to that someday.

jpj 01-28-2006 06:44 PM
Oh yeah, my bro gave me some Mars Volta, i should listen to that someday.
Yes, yes you should.

fishbulb 01-28-2006 06:47 PM

The drummer has a cymbal that he calls a stack of totally busted metal on a cymbal stand. I've seen him play on it in a video too.

Krabsworth 01-28-2006 07:06 PM
Dream Theater is the only new band i like. I think most of it is just how good petrucci/portnoy are. The bassist isn't that bad, but the singer sucks. All he does is sing. Petrucci and Portnoy write the lyrics too.
Wtf...

MidnightRider 01-28-2006 07:16 PM
Wtf...
Haha, yeah that made me laugh.
Also, does anybody else like King Crimson, around in the sixties/seventies?
I do, In The Court of The Crimson King is one of my favorite albums.

robo2448 01-28-2006 07:18 PM
Opeth
What do these guys sound like? I know Magicbus likes them too, and I'm always interested in finding new bands. All I know is that they're metal.

Krabs I was thinking the same thing. Roger Daltrey really sucks because he just sings.

Well, these n00bs are actually more intelligent than most n00bs so we should go easy on them. But they should probably learn that singing takes talent, and new music does not suck. At least they didn't quote the first page and can type. That puts them above 95% of the n00bs.

PinkFreud 01-28-2006 07:19 PM

death cab for cutie, polyphonic spree, the arctic monkeys, electric six, mr. bungle, tomahawk, ...and you will know us by the trail of the dead, tool, liquid tension experiment, andrew bird, the arcade fire, rilo kiley, bear vs. shark, muse, buckethead, red hot chili peppers, john frusciante, sigur ros, the black crowes, glassjaw, head automatica, the strokes, gorillaz, sufjan stevens, weezer, the black keys, and death from above 1979 are some other great modern bands. theres a lot of good music still out there.

and yeah, i agree with krabsworth. what the hell do you want him to do?

Incense and Peppermints 01-28-2006 07:28 PM

Speaking of Weezer I dunno how many of you read the sputnik news what not but I guess they are covering the VU's Heroin, which is just dumb because I don't think River Cumo has anything (or any right) to say that even touches what Lou Reed sang about in that song.

Opeth are like a Progressive Metal band that has growling yet at the same time very good clean vocals. I don't know much about them but I do own Blackwater Park and their newest Ghost Reveries and can say for both of them they get a solid 4/5.

MBS 01-28-2006 09:11 PM

Who's Incense and Peppermints / Peggy Suicide?

Leper 01-28-2006 11:35 PM

Are you asking what the guy's name is, or what's the significance of his name?

MBS 01-28-2006 11:40 PM
Are you asking what the guy's name is, or what's the significance of his name?
No, who is he? He's too intelligent and punctuated to be a n00b. Plus, he referred to EightMilesHigh as EMH, and only the regulars do that, really.

Leper 01-28-2006 11:53 PM

Maybe n00bs are getting smarter as a process of evolution.

Krabsworth 01-28-2006 11:54 PM
Maybe n00bs are getting smarter as a process of evolution.
I've been jacking off into the nub processing modules.

Blank 01-28-2006 11:54 PM

Weezer is covering a VU song?Geez...they already made a song called Buddy Holly...god I hate Weezer.

Opeth on the other hand, from what I've heard is prog metal, with some death/thrash influences.

NP-Money-Pink Floyd

Incense and Peppermints 01-28-2006 11:56 PM

Odd.

And I hate to disagree but I'd start with Ghost Reveries for Opeth, although from my experiences many "true" fans dislike this album and think its a step down from their earlier work. Its all a matter of opinion, you could just as easliy start getting into them from any of their work.
Weezer is covering a VU song?Geez...they already made a song called Buddy Holly...god I hate Weezer.
I could accept Weezer of 9 years ago maybe doing a VU cover (not heroin) but after three questionable releases I fear the worse, and they are covering Heroin which is a topical song. Ugh, my disdain for them has greatly increased.
Although I thought Big Star did a terrific job covering Femme Fatale so it shows that VU are coverable.
I thought I'd just go along with it for awhile, but it is I, Jacaranda! Ya, lets see if any one notices my nice use of edit button now.

Leper 01-28-2006 11:59 PM

Stop being so smart, n00b. You're f'ing with the system, you have to start like everyone else, at the very least typing in all lowercase and probably misspelling every other word, then you work your way from there. God, you can't just start off knowing so much and speaking so intelligently about music. Don't you know anything?

Leper 01-29-2006 12:17 AM

PF is the only regular who can get away with typing all in lower case.

Krabsworth 01-29-2006 12:17 AM

Anyone have any Howlin' Wolf they could send me :-(

Mitch's drumming in Fire is nuts. Everyone destroys in that song.
