It was during the time when Waters started his domination of the band, but the sound is very Gilmour. However, you can see that Gilmour sound rapidly disappear over the next three albums they made, and then when you have A Momentary Lapse Of Reason right after The Final Cut (the quintessential Waters Pink Floyd album), then you finally have a reference for Gilmour.

I like Gilmour and Waters very much, and this is why Dark Side of The Moon is a constant in my list of favorite Floyd albums; not because it's the best selling album of all-time (because just because an album sells, doesn't mean it's good) but because it's the perfect balance of all of the band members.

Disagreed. It isn't the most overrated album of all time at all. In fact, I'd say its one of the few albums with through the roof hype, and exposure, that actually deserves every bit of it.

After seriously listening to PF for 3 years, I can conclude that Darkside has gotten all the attention it does because it deserves it. Every track is either an amazing song, or is beneficial to the point of the album itself.

And no, I don't like all the posers with the shirts either, but for every one of them, there are 10 real PF fans.

I always feel like Wright and Gilmour dominated that album. They really made almost all the music on it. The Waters dominated songs on that album are Have A Cigar and Welcome To The Machine.

Yes I agree that it is very Gilmour dominated, but I hadn't really given it much thought. Althought I must say I love Welcome To The Machine, not as good as Shine On but bloody close.

Its easily one of the most haunting songs ever recorded. I don't think I could perform it live or something without having some kind of emotional reaction to it.

No, not really. There are of course some popular examples that would be more haunting ([I]The Downward Spiral[/I] comes to mind), but a not so recognized example might be Karel Husa's [I]Music For Prague 1968 [/I]or maybe even Fred Katz's rendition of [I]Foggy Foggy Dew[/I]. Hell, there are other Floyd songs more haunting ([I]The Trial[/I] comes to mind, of course).

Eh, I should have been more specific. As far as rock music is concerned it is. Of course there are some compositions that are much more haunting, but as far as music that a majority of people listen to (ie, the Wish You Were Here album), its one of the more haunting pieces they're ever going to hear. But in general your right, theres much more that surpass it.

The Downward Spiral is pretty passe from what I remember, but that's probably because I don't like NIN.

I put more emphasis on the other two examples because of Nine Inch Nails isn't a favorite of mine either.

Damn, that solo on Fad Old Sun live from the Royal Albert Hall(David Gilmour dvd) is soooooooooo great. One of the best Gilmour solo's I've heard.

The Final Cut has really grown on me. I used to not like it much but now I'd say it's one of my favorite Floyd albums.

I recently listened to a song Roger Waters wrote for Marianne Faithful called Incarceration of a Flower Child. It starts with "Do you remember me, how we used to be..." just like in "Your Possible Pasts" from the Final Cut.

Marianne isn't very faithful ._.

well the shirt thing is kind of an example of how much hype darkside gets. i hardly see anyone wearing any other PF merch other than something darkside related, is what i mean.

Dark Side is their most popular album. It stands to reason that the majority of people and merchandise reflect this.

Ya pretty much. I've seen plenty of people wearing shirts for other albums and stuff, so it's not just Darkside. That's just the most popular.

Wow, long time no post here. Is anyone planning on getting the Pink Floyd boxset in December? It's got all of their studio albums in it and they've all been remastered. I'd buy it if I didn't already have most of their records.

Depends on how good the remaster is, a lot of times they sound like sh[size=2]i[/size]t and are just put out to make money.

Yeah, there's not much point, as half the albums I have by Pink Floyd are already remastered. Though I'd be keen to grab the bonus material they're offering, cos I'm a fanboy like that.

I finally got a hold of some Pink Floyd albums, I got Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Division Bell, Meddle, The Wall and the Final Cut. I'm very happy with Animals right now.

I was thinking about grabbing a Pink Floyd shirt... until I saw the prices. All shirts (on their site, anyway) are $30 or more.

Right now, I actually only have three albums. The Wall (just got it off a friend), Animals, and Wish You Were Here. I think WYWH is my favorite. There are some great tracks on The Wall, too. Animals is probably my least favorite of the three, but it's still great.

I have Wish You Were Here, The Wall, and Dark Side. I should be getting Piper and Animals soon, then Meddle. Then I dunno what.
