I picked up Images and Words yesterday, it's pretty good, Petrucci is incredible. I'll post what I think of it later on, after I get a few proper listens in.

ghettoeddo 12-31-2005 05:06 PM

8vm is NOT their last CD. portnoy officially stated they're up for more albums.

would be sad if they closed their career with a mediocre-ish album like 8vm.

it's gross how good myung is.

and i have a question about the instrumedley multi-angle thing...i play it, but it's the exact smae camera angle as the regular concert footage. how do i change angles?

eighty d 12-31-2005 05:21 PM

there should be an angle button on your dvd remote. i don't like the multi-angle thing. i think the budokan dvd was already edited just about perfect. the regular concert angles do it for me.

There is a button on most dvd remotes with a camera on it or something that says angle or something like that. You push it to change angles.

/randomly starts posting in the DT thread

EDIT: Beat to it:upset:

temporary 12-31-2005 05:49 PM
I didn't... could you send it to me please man?
Sure, whats your email?

IbanezSamurai 12-31-2005 06:49 PM

So, will DT continue touring North America after their gig in NY?

ghettoeddo 12-31-2005 06:57 PM

^ that's what i REALLY wanna know...

that's the last gig for this particular tour. so...either we gotta wait for a new album or they'll be cool and do a 2nd octavarium leg...

ghettoeddo 12-31-2005 06:58 PM

we've been asked not to distribute/share powertab files. but whatever guys :]

That would suck, I didnt go to gigantour beacause I didnt want to sit through 20 other band that I dont give a crap about while waiting for Dream Theater, plus they would probably play all the stuff off their new album instead of the classics.

But yeah, it would kick *** if they did "Evening With" tour in the US.

PS. I've read somewhere that MP was gonna post something tonight, what could it be?
Post something where?
On his website.

ghettoeddo 01-01-2006 02:39 AM

did anyone ever find what he supposedly posted on christmas morning at 6?

and ibanez, for gigantour, they actualy didnt play too much offof 8vm. but yea, setlists were really small :(
'twas still worth it. i spent $40 to see dream theater and half of megadeth. i'd spend much more than that...

I think I read somewhere that they're going to do about 10 albums.

The 3 CD Live Scenes was the first DT album I bought.

Firecracker 01-01-2006 08:36 AM

The first DT song i heard was 'In The Name Of God' and i didn't want to check any other songs out because i loved that song so much i couldn't stop listening to it, and if the other songs weren't as good i would lose my liking for them.
But after a while i checked out 'Images & Words' and my my i'm glad i did.

Triangle 01-01-2006 11:05 AM

Pull Me Under was the song that got me into DT. That chorus and riffage is very hard to resist. :p

Jev 01-01-2006 11:07 AM

I heard Hell's Kitchen first and didn't like it much. A few months later I heard SOC and after that I loved them.

Ditto, looking back on it it's certainly not the greatest on I&W but one of DT's funnest songs!

Blue Collar Man 01-01-2006 12:46 PM

When I first got I&W I didn't like Pull Me Under at all for some reason.

emo is so cool 01-01-2006 05:25 PM

the first time i heard dream theaterr was when i bought "scenes from a memory" i listened to it, and heard "close you eyes and as i count to 10 you will go to a more relaxed state of mind" i thought "what the hell is this?!?!?!?" and thought it was gonna suck ***. but then i listened to strange deja vu and <3'd them instantly.

Locke 01-01-2006 06:45 PM

Oww I found the official thread :D

I Was woundering if anyone could suggest the next DT album I get, I've only been listening to them recently. (I'm a drummer and someone told me about Mike Portnoy and sent me As I Am so I therefore brought the whole of Train of Thought.) I also got Images and Words after hearing Take the Time.

So can anyone suggest the next one I should get?

has anyone else ever listened to the commentary on 5YIALT? portnoy says during the unplugged section that he was going to just quit the band once that tour was over, but then they brought jordan into the band and kept on going. i'd never even heard of this before, but it does mean that DT could have ended with FII as their last album.

Ya the first DT song i heard was pull me under on the radio. Then i bought images and words and its awsome. Then i heard trian of thought on the gigantour website. that song is awsome. They need to put the music back on their they ad some really good songs.

Arg, i just downloaded trian of though off a mailing list and now i need to gewt software to listen to it.

^ winRAR eh?
not sure how to work it yet :] spock's beard's "octane" is just taunting me.

if JR was the reason DT kept going after FII...then he's my new favorite member.:smash:

watching myung makes me sick. i've just been watching the metropolis bass solo over and over again.

Dimebag Dom 01-01-2006 11:02 PM

Yeh Woo Dream Theater, fav song in the name of god.

Weird. I'm glad they kept going.
You think if Portnoy quit DT he would've carried on with LTE?

Aaron_Of_Oz 01-02-2006 06:05 AM

the first song i heard of dream theater was "pull me under" and i swear to god by the end of that song i looked at my brother and said "dream theater are one of the best bands i have ever heard". that tag still stays with them for me i love everything about them. the way john petrucci cracks out his metal influenced riffs and mike portney smacking those drums.......oh **** get me a towel:p i love dream theater

Heh, I know what you mean. My old guitar teacher showed me that song and I was just amazed, then he copied I&W for me. They were the first progressive band that I really listened to.
Weird. I'm glad they kept going.

Portnoy drums on so many albums I'm sure he would have found things to keep him busy (LTE, Transatlantic, OSI etc).
It wouldn't have surprised me if the band had finished if they didn't get JR to replace Sherinian, the band were seriously heading downhill.

Lord Abortion 01-02-2006 11:21 AM

I find that odd with Portnoy.
I mean, since he's really the leader, spokesperson and main conceptualist for the band, it would be difficult to see DT without him.

bwnstl 01-02-2006 12:42 PM

I don't think they would have continued. He's said somewhere where basically the band almost broke up after FII due to all the bull**** the record company made them go through during that period.

red barchetta 01-02-2006 01:34 PM

meh, whatever reason they had, its good that they continued.

it allowed them to record SDOIT

GenuineImitation 01-02-2006 01:39 PM

The first song I heard by DT was Pull Me Under, followed by Lie and Under a Glassmoon. I instantley got hooked.

it wasn't just the record company shit, he said that dream theater was becoming somewhat of a joke band at that point. all the nightmare cinema and nicky lemons and the migraines stuff.

IbanezSamurai 01-02-2006 03:25 PM

First song I heard was One Last Time, then Overture 1928.
But yeah, I hope they will do 10 more albums before they retire, look at Rolling Stones.

Yeah I watched it with commentary about a week ago. He blames everything basically on the record label. Most of the album was cut down because of the producer cause there label didn't let them produce it themselves. Also, all the songs written on FII by Portnoy are about the record label, E.g You Not Me, New Millenium, Burning My Soul, Take Away My Pain.
