I still like Morningrise the most. What an amazing album. The lyrics, the songwritting, everything. Probably the best Metal album ever recorded.

The whole album Deliverance gets a regular spin from me, I love the more unappreciated songs like Wreath and By The Pain I See In Others.
I didn't mean anything harsh to GR, I'm obsessed with Orchid. Probably one of my favorite albums of all time. :thumb:
I'm obsessed with Orchid as well. :D

You're right though, GR is their lightest album so far...

Special Brew 09-23-2005 06:57 PM
D@mnation is heavier, only because of the lyrics IMO. Ghost Reveries tries to be hard, you die hard Opeth fans know what I'm talking about.
You saying I'm not a die hard fan?

Pfft!

:p

I don't even know most of Opeth's lyrics. I'm not too big on lyrics of most bands, except a few songs here and there. I concentrate on the guitars usually.

I just thought of this, Ghost Reveries is a ''make all the other albums sound really good by comparison'' album.

Yeah, those songs don't get nearly enough credit.

Opeth is a million times better when you get to sing along. :)

Let's do a sing-a-long with Opeth kiddies. You can order your Opeth-Bop CD for just $19.99 w/tax. Sorry, no CODs. Order today!

I just sing along to the clean parts. NOOOoooooooo growling for me....I love how it sounds, but if you try to do that without knowing what you're doing, you'll be talking through a voicebox in no time.

Haha, it's the opposite for me. I've developed a good growl over the past few days.

I tried growling with the album Deliverance, and as a result, I lost my voice for 3 days. :p

I haven't listened to Orchid in a while, maybe I'll put that in while I watch the Hawkeyes get owned. :upset:

To be honest, I don't even know what he says in the growling parts. I have read the lyrics, but never memorized them. I could sing alot to most of the new CD, but I'm just not a sing-a-long kind of guy. Except for bands like Funeral Diner, Circle Takes The Square, and Orhicd. :p

Yeah I got it off the Daily Upload and I haven't been listening to anything else.

Darkness 09-24-2005 11:35 AM

I can't tolerate more then one listen of Ghost Reveries per day.

Deth 09-24-2005 01:35 PM

God, I love GR.

i am the robots 09-24-2005 03:10 PM

I do too :D.

But still:

NP: Korn - Chi... you need to shake things up a little, keep your tastes balanced.

Same. When I listen to any song from that album, it just makes me want to listen to heavier Opeth. :D

Darkness 09-24-2005 03:44 PM

If I listen to Baying Of The Hounds once, I have the listen to the whole Deliverance album to regain myself. :p

whatduffhuck7 09-24-2005 03:45 PM

i was looking through the tabs of "the moor", i was using a power tab so its was well put together tab, and i could hear it also, and that really raised my respect for opeth, on how complicated there songs are. truly a amazing band

EverytimeIBodom 09-24-2005 03:56 PM
Same. When I listen to any song from that album, it just makes me want to listen to heavier Opeth. :D
Well I don't really know any other Opeth, I'd only heard of em till I downloaded the album.

Oni Link 09-24-2005 04:37 PM

I consider myself a huge Opeth fan, and Ghost Reveries is my favorite album. Followed by BLP and Still Life. Man I can't get enough of Ghost of Perdition. Discuss!

My suggestion is to purchase Morningrise.

repcak 09-24-2005 04:52 PM

i was downloading it 2hours ago from the daily upload -> its 76.6 mb big and at 75.5 it stopped downloading for no reason... i waited 30min to resume, but nothing happend :upset:

now its too late... i have to wait for tomorrow to take a second try.

/ i own still life and morningrise... both amazing albums... i recommend them to everyone!!

It takes a while to get used to growling, if you do it too often at first you can injure your vocal chords. Now I do it all the time, but only when I'm alone in my car. :p People give me funny looks when I'm driving though. :upset:

I've never understood how people can make those noises. I always thought it was some inborn ability, like wiggling your ears or whatever.
I've never understood how people can make those noises. I always thought it was some inborn ability, like wiggling your ears or whatever.
Supposively, Mikael uses what he calls a "compressor" in his throat to growl. I have no idea what that means, heh. But it's something most people could probably do if they worked on it hard enough.

Special Brew 09-24-2005 07:24 PM

I wish I could sing or growl or scream. I can't do anything vocal, and I'm too shy to practice because people are always at my house. I'll just stick with guitar I guess.

   yeah I know, I was screaming along to The Master's Apprentices at a stop light on the way to work a few days ago, I glanced over and 2 elderly people were staring at me like I was the devil  lol

I was planning on installing a loudspeaker in my car (oh so much fun scaring the shit out of people with loud noises, saying hi to girls, etc.), maybe I could show some elderly people and small children my growling skillz with it as well. :D

  you gotta scream along with By The Pain I See In Others
that would own.

RISE TO SUBMISSION!!!!!

Dude3 09-24-2005 10:28 PM

Sure, why not? I'll ask.

I always like to scream and growl along to music. I don't actually do it loudly, pretty quietly actually. But, my throat will be sore for like the next 2 days. If I just keep disregarding the soreness, will I eventually be able to do this a lot, without any consequences?

ambush 09-24-2005 10:33 PM

Just do it in moderation at first, think of it as a stretch. If you try to touch your toes right away you'll probably tear a muscle, kinda the same concept here.

Dude3 09-24-2005 10:44 PM

Alrighty, sounds cool. I've really irritated my throat a few times.

Namely me trying to sing Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose". Good times, good times.

That's awesome. I recently quit after 16 years, haven't smoked a cigarette in almost 2 years now. It really opened up my vocals. :D

I've been practicing with Deliverance a lot lately. It's so hard to even come close to the tone Mikael hits. He's truly gifted in a LOT of areas. :)

 Always pushing the Korn....

I think you can find a better counterbalance to Opeth than that! I mean...if the counterbalance you're looking for is quality of the music, then Korn works great, but I wouldn't throw a "musical diversity" party for enjoying both if I were you. :p
