when you get around to listening to another one get Life In The Dungeon i think you'll appreciate that one

akashic is the most 'generic' of all of them. i enjoy it very much it's quite moody but it's fairly standard downtempo/ambient stuff.

Nepenthe 12-07-2010 09:20 PM

ahh who'm i kidding that is a fuggin great album. but i still want to see what you think of dungeon.

Meatplow 12-07-2010 09:35 PM

yeah I don't listen to a lot of this kind of stuff but I think it's pretty impressive nonetheless

I want your production skills.

Nepenthe 12-07-2010 09:38 PM

i must say i've become exceptionally better in the past 2 or 3 months. incredibly pleased with my output atm.

will have the video that's going to be used in that installation piece with that sound collage tmrw to show. from what i've seen of it so far it's going to be pretty epic.

Meatplow 12-07-2010 09:45 PM

did you learn from any specific resources?

http://www.samplecraze.com/tutorial.php/1/synthesis-tutorials-part-1/

i've been slowly reading through and memorising this series, it is a start I guess. already feeling a shift in the way I approach things

emilyyy 12-07-2010 09:53 PM

i dont bother w/ that stuff because i suck

RouteOne 12-07-2010 09:53 PM

guys how does I make noise

I think I'm just going to get a mixer and some fx pedals to start with

lol no. just breezing through that article nearly gave me a headache, didn't understand any of it. i just listen and finetune everything to get it exactly the way it needs to sound. kind of a keep-turning-the-knob-until-it-sounds-just-right approach.

any synth or synth VST has a noise waveform as a basic sound frequency you can build upon

there are hundreds of ways you can make noise though, just distort the fuck out of everything in audio programs for instance. use grain filters, bitcrushers, time stretchers, compressors etc. analogue electronics are the way to go, though

try the DIY section here

yeah, I guess some are adept at this. I want to understand the theory behind it though

RouteOne 12-07-2010 10:18 PM

Thanks dude. Been wanting to do some stuff for ages.

Nepenthe 12-07-2010 10:45 PM

yeah all i used to create the noise in that glenn beck thing was a single bass sine. just layered on the distortions, filters, and compressors after that. and then did the same with the actual glenn beck samples.

RouteOne 12-07-2010 10:47 PM

I like how that sounded. I want to add drums to what I am doing once I get going. Nothing complicated though.

Nepenthe 12-07-2010 10:52 PM

i've also been experimenting alot with taking 3 or 4 seconds from the ends of metal songs, yknow like where the distortion just rings for a few seconds, and making songs out of it. taking something with no structure or melody and almost making it seem like it has both of those things.

i.e. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9901383

just added the bassline and drums

RouteOne 12-07-2010 10:54 PM

That is a pretty good idea. I like the snare too.
