Nothing will ever top the menacing opening of The Grudge and the eerie end of Faaip De Oiad.
Very nicely said. I love the original tracklisting, but I still want to try this thing. |
I find Holy Gift at least 100 times better, but the original is still the best album ever. I *love* the way it ends with Disposition, and I also love the positioning of The Patient. Trust me, when I listen to The Patient, I think of it as a near-last song, because of the vocal styles and slow riffs. Very climatic. I don't like The Patient as the third song, it doesn't fit at all.
Oh, and that person who posted before saying that Tool are black metal... those mushrooms are really gettin' to ya... Pearl Jam's new album comes out in May... let's hope that Tool can beat that... |
Pearl Jam's new album comes out in May... let's hope that Tool can beat that...
I find that pretty unlikely. If they were planning a May or earlier release, there would have been some news on it already, an annoucnment of some sort that it's almost finished and even a definite date. So far we have none of the above. (at least to my knowledge) I'm still hoping for a mid-summer release, though. I'd say maybe they're planning a surprise release, but I doubt a record company would agree to that. |
Please send me some of the tool live stuff. AIM=PulkPullRevDoors Email=pulkpullrevolvingdoors AT Gmail DOT com

I gave Lateralus its regular 4 listens today...**** that cd is just so **** good. How can anyone say linkin park owns Tool.. I just can't get over that...
Edit: I really hate how the word damn is beeped out.. |
JUst watched the Parabola video. Its INSANE. Definately their best.
I have a question though. Tool makes a lot of references to the whole "THIRD EYE" thing in their music. What is the whole philosophy(if that's what you want to call it) behind the Third Eye thing? |
The Third Eye or "brow chakra" is located about 1.5 cm above your nose. Supposidly it holds wisdom or something like that and its the best place to look at when trying to view someones aura... someone else can explain this way better then me...
|
Third Eye is also a reference to Bill Hicks' comedy acts as well. "Squeegying my third eye." He's the dude in the cartoon doctor in the insert of Ænima.
|
Yeah but Bill didn't make it up.
|
I know, but in that million page Tool FAQ, they mention that they got the idea for the song from Hicks.
|
Can someone give me the order to the Holy Gift thing again?
|
Can someone give me the order to the Holy Gift thing again?
Parabol Parabola Schism Ticks and Leeches Mantra Lateralus Faaip de Oiad The Grudge Triad Eon Blue Apocalypse Disposition Reflection The Patient |
That's the order where they all go into eachother perfectly? I've been meaning to try that....
|
I was going to do it today but of course I didn't get around to it.
|
I'm ripping it right now, and I'm gunna do it....
|
woo! I'll get around to it one day...
|
It doesn't work. Reflection has to be before Triad.
|
It isn't working well anyways
Mantra went into Lateralus very smoothly, and Faaip went into The Grudge cleanly, and Reflection went into The Patient kinda smoothly. Otherwise the transitions weren't to smooth. Edit: and obviously Parabol went into Parabola. |
Wait till the end. It gets downright pointless. :p
|
Hmm... I think it may be about more than the transitions. It has to do with the development and feel of the overall album more than the transitions.
|
Until the end?
|
Hmm... I think it may be about more than the transitions. It has to do with the development and feel of the overall album more than the transitions.
Oh, I thought the transitions were supposed to be perfect or something. Well, I'll sit here and see how this version of the album feels.... |
I think it's reading too far into it anyway. I doubt they actually did it on purpose, but I guess anything is possible.
|
Parabol/Parabola are definetly bar none better opening tracks than The Grudge.
Edit: The first notes of Schism made me shiver a bit after hearing Parabola. You know, that whole, musical G-Spot thing. When something happens that's really just, right? Yeah, that kinda shiver. |

Parabol Parabola Schism Ticks and Leeches Mantra Lateralus Faaip de Oiad The Grudge Triad Eon Blue Apocalypse Reflection The Patient Disposition
There, fixed. And remember: 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10 |
What about Schism into Ticks? I like that, as Schism ends with some double bass then Ticks intros with double bass..
|
Hey Darkness,
that one post you put up where that guy emailed you with a diff. order, i can see what he's sayin. but, he forgot to put ticks and leeches into the mix, because you know how he says " my fruit is bruised and borrow you thieving bastards you have turned my blood cold and bitter feed my compasion black and blue" he basically sayin that he's tired and worked out from this album then he says " hope this is what you wanted, hope this is what you had in mind, cause this is what your getting." he says that hopefully this is what we wanted and yes we wanted and loved it, sucking him dry. in which the order for that guys theory would be 8,9,2,1,3,6,7,10,11,12,4,5,13. YES, eon blue apocalypse is before the grudge because if you listen to the end feedback of the bass in lateralus REALLY REALLY carefully it sounds like the beginning to EBA. |
What about Schism into Ticks? I like that, as Schism ends with some double bass then Ticks intros with double bass..
That was another G-Spot. But then again, I love Ticks and Leeches, and it's always a musical G-Spot. |
Okay, do I have the right alternate order? Or is there multiple theories on this and I just wasted the last 2 hours of my life?
|
there are many theories but, IMO the one that dude found out would probably be the closest i've seen. it goes together greatly with the mood of the music and the lyrics.
