I just can't beleive how many people only listen to metal. It's like you ask them to name all the types of music they listen to and it's like..."well I listen to death metal, doom metal, a little bit of black metal, some hardcorish nu-metalcore thrash..."

I don't have anything against fans of metal in general...since tons of my friends are metalheads, I just find that a lot of them are too closeminded.

edit- The guy at our local head shop said he could order us some real absinthe, but it's like 200 bucks a bottle. He can also get us legal mushrooms that are more potent that any of the illegal ones around here. He's a cool guy, he gives us a gram whenever we are super low on cash...and he has really really good weed. My friends dad makes moonshine, but he's been in Jamaica for several months now.
There are too many close minded people that hang out in rock/metal. It's a shame, really.
Yeah :(

Edit: Does anyone remember that one thread, I think someone made it about U2, and one metalhead posted "Why are you bringing that sh!t in here, this is a metal forum!"

I nearly cried. :(

I hate close minded people.

I hate when a (close minded) metal head complains about how Classic Rock "bores him". How can anyone generalize an entire era of music??? Even I wouldn't go as far to say mainstream these days is boring because I could never generalize an entire era like that. Way too diverse.

I remember that thread, good stuff! Anything that englightens metalheads (or anyone) about rock is A-O-K.

edit- The other day in the newspaper there was an article written by a man who I know (he takes guitar lessons from where I work). It was all about his memories of Woodstock and it was a great article. He wrote about how everyone was warned not to take "light blue flat acid" (I'm not sure why that specific type of acid wasn't good). Then he wrote about the music and the all around atmosphere, he said he stayed away from the blue acid and stuck to pot and hash. There were pictures that he took and put in a scrapbook...they were pretty cool. There was one of him smoking a joint on a VW Beetle while Hendrix was playing. All in all...it was a very very cool article.

Yeah. I don't like U2, but it's still kinda dumb to post that.

very true and to your other point it does seem as if the metal heads now rule R&M which is to baad. :upset:

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-15-2005 05:32 PM

I say we make a thread on how close minded this forum has become. Then we will group attack any metal head who disagrees.

Who's with me?

Illmatic 08-15-2005 05:33 PM
I say we all get banned
No thanks.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-15-2005 05:37 PM

No-one would get banned if it was intelligent discussion and not mindless flaming.

ATM 08-15-2005 05:45 PM

You can't force somebody to be open minded. They have to do it on their own.

Illmatic 08-15-2005 05:47 PM

It WILL be mindless flaming, though.

MBS 08-15-2005 05:54 PM

We should make a thread called "ITT: The CR thread attempts to broaden your mind to more genres of music" and all the regulars upload their 5 favorite rock songs. Doesn't have to be Classic, it could be modern.

OK then it won't happen but I do think Metal heads (in general) need to know how bad of a reputation they have these days in this forum and how close minded they're being. Now I'm not talking about ALL Metal Heads because there are some very intelligent and open minded ones but this isn't the case in most.

Jam2Me 08-15-2005 06:08 PM

I'm EXTREMELY close-minded when it comes to metal.

I think this would be good if we only did one-two songs each.

thickasabrick 08-15-2005 06:22 PM

I wouldn't mind doing that, although I'm about to go out. I'd say include some jazz (any type of jazz is fine, maybe pop in some Miles Davis and Eric Dolphy).

Definitely some bluegrass, to show that there are still guitarists who can play faster on acoustics than a lot of shredders can on their electrics.

edit- Dammit!!! Apparently because of the Canada Games there have been free concerts at Wascana Park (my second favourite park in the city) for the past week and I've been at my cottage. My friend got to see April Wine for free the other night. April Wine!!!

That just might work.

Pretty much. It's about 90% metal and 10% rock.

On another note, Electric Ladyland rocks.

Badmoon 08-15-2005 06:42 PM

Yeah, give um some Tony Rice. \m/  \m/

White_heat 08-15-2005 07:01 PM

I've been getting into a lot of Jazz-Rock fusion lately, any one else enjoy the music of this genre?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-15-2005 07:17 PM

I love Fusion. Jeff Beck's 2 Fusion masterpeices Frank Zappa's Hot Rats, Tony Williams' Emerency!, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew...etc

I love fusion. :)

White_heat 08-15-2005 07:19 PM

Have you heard Soft Machine's Third? Its a fusion gem

Edit- Today is Woodstock's 36th aniversary.

Woodstock 08-15-2005 07:24 PM

Yay for Woodstock! :)

I don't have any Soft Machine albums. I've heard they're pretty good though.

Two days from now is my one year mx anniversary.
Have you heard Soft Machine's Third? Its a fusion gem

I've heard Vol. 1 and 2, but I've never heard Third.

To whoever asked: The Dead recorded a studio version of Dark Star, but it was never released (to my knowledge) until they put out the remastered version of Live/Dead.

MBS 08-15-2005 07:37 PM

So you registered on the last day of Woodstock, naming yourself Woodstock.

Do I smell a conspiracy?

I think we should do a Part 2 to Chris' thread. Every CR regular upload 2 of their favorite songs and post them, and give a short explanation on why you like that song.

Let's try to include various genres of the rock spectrum.

Badmoon 08-15-2005 07:42 PM

I don't know, maybe we should have an AIM chat on the concept and such; try to be more original and other stuff.

I think three tracks would be good. I'd have Bluegrass, Buena Vista Social Club, and the Dead

MBS 08-15-2005 07:48 PM

Okay, that sounds like a good idea. When should we hold this chat? Tonight?

Badmoon 08-15-2005 07:52 PM

I'd be up for that.

Glitterati 08-15-2005 08:01 PM
I've been getting into a lot of Jazz-Rock fusion lately, any one else enjoy the music of this genre?
I like rock with jazz influences, like, The Doors, if that's what you mean.
