In History today, we had to do a World War I simulation, and we had to write a national anthem, or pick a song that described our nation's stance on war. I picked "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" by George Harrison, and played it.
As far as Mr. Tambourine Man is concerned, Dylan > The Byrds.
I was listening to Dylan in class today, and was reminded of how good a song Mr. Tambourine Man is.

Did you sing too?

Phallus Dei 01-23-2006 07:09 PM
because he's not talented. he has a ****ty flow and his lyrics are vapid and stupid too often.

"grab a drink, grab a glass. after that i grab your ***."

genius stuff.
Way to pick a not so great lyric. :P

Glitterati 01-23-2006 07:16 PM

Does anyone ITT like The Arcade Fire? I think they rule.

TheDMV 01-23-2006 07:22 PM

Any of you Cream fans in here know why Badge wasn't on a studio album? My teacher is starting to teach me that song, and I don't want to buy Cream's Greates Hits. Is it on a live album?

It's on Goodbye. Goodbye has 3 studio songs and 3 live songs, it's kind of a album they rushed to get out right before they broke up. The three live songs are killer but the two studio songs are pretty filler. Badge is awesome as well though. I'd recommend buying the album though if you're a big Cream fan.

They never performed it live until last May in London because they recorded it right before they broke up.

edit- beat:(

I kind of like Kanye West but I don't own anything by him. I hate Snoop dogg.

Ya, but they get really boring after awhile. And I wasn't to impressed with their first release... I think it was an EP.

Think you could get on AIM and help a brother out with Soulseek>?

Election night tongiht.....
Well once Mick left The Stones... they kind of started sucking but by that point Keith was so messed up on drugs that he wasn't a shadow of himself in the prime. I'd still take Mick over him easily. But this is a Beatles thread.
Lets take this to the CR thread.
/took there

Are you serious?!! The late 70's killed the Stones it had nothing to do with Mick he was barely even in the creative making process. He just played the stuff Keef gave him. And for proof of Keith being more important see pre-69 Stones. I wish George Thorogood would have joined the Stones instead of Ron Wood or was it instead of Mick. I can't think damn iTunes erasing all my music from my iPod.

I used to listen to ATCQ though.

Oh I agree that Keith was more important to The Stones than Mick was. But I just think that Mick was a much better guitarist than Keith. And I think Mick wrote his own guitar parts, didn't he?

Jeff Beck was also offered to join the Stones after Mick left but he declined. A bunch of guitarists were considered.

And Brian Jones was a creative force in the early years like on Their Satanic Majesties Request (which I enjoy). Beggar's Banquet was all Keith though.

Phallus Dei 01-23-2006 08:15 PM

Well by the time 67 rolled around Brian Jones wasn't the big creative force in the group it was Keef and Mick. I think Between the Buttons was the last CD were Brian had a major effect on it. Ya, sure Brian did some synth in some songs and added some songs but his last great piece of work that he really did with the Stones was when he changed "Paint It, Black" from a pure guitar song to adding the sitar after Bill laid down the beat. I mean sure he had some influence even on Let it Bleed but nothing major a song credit here or there. But really after Mick established himself as the front man Brian took the backset to Keith.
I never heard that they took Jeff Beck seriously I thought they were just trying any one who played, I remember reading somewhere that Keith didn't want Jeff in because he thought he was a ass or something like that. I know they were considering just about every guitar player and since George Thorogood was on tour with them at the time I know he was one of the big considerations.
I think for the majority of their albums Keith did most of Micks parts, I might be wrong the Exile sessions are so confusing with who allegedly wrote what and who played what and what not. Ya, sure Mick wrote some of his parts but for the majority I think he just took off from where Keith was going, not to take anything away from Mick I love him. I just think Keith blows him out of the water.

I reckon there should be a Stones thread.

Lunch 01-23-2006 08:26 PM

Please make one so I don't have to see the Stones talk anymore.

They sometimes come up, but usually die soon. I cause not as many like them as much as The Beatles.

Krabsworth 01-23-2006 08:31 PM

I was thinking of making a Grateful Dead thread, and name it,"Any other Dead Heads?"

JonG 01-23-2006 08:35 PM

Well, the last one failed.. I can't remember why.

It was named "The Grateful Thread".

Damn catchy name also.

When we talk about them, it's usually in here anyway.

I actually only want to make the thread for the,"Any other dead heads?" title just to see all the death heads go in there and be like,"wtf hippies."

Yeah, that's why is most likely died.

np: Van Halen - Unchained

One of 2 songs that I like by Van Halen.

It's a great riff.
I do admit, when I saw the video of MCR when they're in the army. I got kind of mad that they got to have multi-thousand dollar archtop jazz guitars, and just use them for looks in the video. I doubt they ever used them again either I don't think they had those models around in 1944, either.
tsk tsk. the thread was closed so i couldn't respond to you but my chemical romance is not emo.

TheDMV 01-23-2006 09:22 PM

I was gonna make a GD thread called Workingman's Thread. :( Sonofabitch!!
I was gonna make a GD thread called Workingman's Thread. :( Sonofabitch!!
Heh heh...that's the best thread pun I've seen so far.

From what I've heard, Brian Jones' musicianship and creativity went to **** once all the Stones started on acid. I remember reading/hearing that it just had a really negative affect on him.

edit - Dammit, Conservatives are winning. NDP is losing (well in 3rd).

blue3 01-24-2006 07:37 AM

I have vinyl too :( Not a lot though..

Do you even like classic rock?

Apocalyptic Raids 01-24-2006 07:41 AM

Well...

Not really. It's not that I don't like it, I just don't listen to it. Besides Pink Floyd.

This one time at a friends house he played some Camel. That was pretty cool stuff.

thickasabrick 01-24-2006 10:00 AM

I looove vinyl. I only listen to like 2 CDs and a few mp3 albums on my computer per week...but I listen to a lot of vinyl.

I've got a few hours to study for my Psych final. I had Math this morning....it was not too fun. My math class had such sexy girls I couldn't even concentrate in class, I'm gonna miss that class.

Camel's a great band, I don't know if they have a following on here, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

JonG 01-24-2006 03:29 PM

Does anybody here have any Dick's Picks besides 1,12, and 18? :)

I had to swim today for gym class. My hair smells like chlorine.

/bored

thickasabrick 01-24-2006 03:31 PM

I don't think I've heard anything by Camel before. My friend has told me about them, but I can't download songs and I haven't seen any of their albums around. Could someone kinda of tell me something about them...what do they sound like...etc. Pretty please with sugar on top!

What is everyone's opinion on the song Maggies Farm? I've always really liked it, although I'm not sure exactly what it is I like about it. I suppose the lyrics, they are kinda interesting. Does anyone know who this Maggie might be....I've noticed that the first line to Subteranean Homesick Blues says "Maggie comes fleet foot face full of black soot.." and the songs are on the same album. So she must be someone Dylan knows. This has actually been bothering me for a very long time.

Gym is the most pointless class ever. No one ever loses weight or gets better fitness from it.
