Sinkane - Color Voice

the best album i've heard from a new artist in 08 ... jazzy, remind me of Tortoise

edit: i just found out this is Ahmed Gallab from Of Montreal... crazy

anyone likes math-rock or something that sounds sort of like Fall of Troy/Meet Me in St. Louis, try this. not too thrilled with them right now though, but someone here should like em

New P0rnographers - Electric Version

So I don't like this as much, hopefully this is just a band that takes a good amount of time to fully like.

speaking of, have you heard their live album? i was reading about it but I didn't really understand, apparently they like chopped up parts from the same song but at different performances and put them together or something? idk, sounds interesting even though I was hoping for just straight live material because they are so awesome live.

i hereby challenge anyone to listen to Color Voice and not enjoy it. it is a relatively short album, one very well-mixed piece around 30 minutes, split into four tracks. driven by drums

samarahah 11-30-2008 01:50 PM

who is it by/what does it sound like?

perriwinkle 11-30-2008 01:58 PM

it's by Sinkane (weird name, sounds like an industrial band...) and it sounds like traveling through some sea of music, just moving steadily forward past aquatic jazz creatures

http://www.mediafire.com/?vzlkmjtjxme

airy yet at times very intense, and a band i wouldn't hesitate to draw to would be Tortoise

cbmartinez 11-30-2008 02:29 PM

perriwinkle i dl'ed 14kt God on your recc and that rules so I will dl this also

perriwinkle 11-30-2008 02:40 PM

cheers mighty warrior, i am glad you enjoyed that and hope you caught Panther on either of his performances in DC, he's pretty awesome live. just runs stuff off his macbook and flips out with delay-ridden guitar and vocals, as who his undoubtedly his mistress fiddles away on the violin or a bass, and other-crazy-dude-who-has-been-in-bands-with-Panther-dude-for-years kicks it steady on drums. that was a good show, and it was really small (@ Velvet Lounge) so i got to talk to him as he got really drunk at the bar after the show. definitely a cool guy, they're all from Portland. and you know, i actually posted this whole story after the show on here so if you know all of this already from that previous post in like May, then i apologize.

anyways, let me know what you all think of Color Voice, i think you all will enjoy it. i'm reviewing it on WUVT Tune Talk in about an hour. and we'll play the title track even though its like 6 minutes long

cbmartinez 11-30-2008 02:52 PM

WUVT?

yeah i saw panther open for ratatat at the black cat, i thought it was sick though not too many people were into it. I mean, admittedly I wish he would play guitar more while he was singing instead of just playing the tracks on the macbook, but the drummer killed it and i love his dances and the looping on his voice with his delay pedal. the song they closed with was def the best but i cant figure out what song it was, it sounded like he was shouting "jacques costeau" at one point?

perriwinkle 11-30-2008 02:57 PM

WUVT is the virginia tech radio station. man i wanted to go to that show so bad ... i was at school and couldn't make it down for that. yeah and sometimes youre right he would just play the guitar part on the computer and sing, with his guitar hanging around his neck... haha i guess i can see that some of the parts would be really difficult to sing and play well at the same time, but i think the show would be much better if all the parts played on the macbook were replaced with musicians playing the parts live. im not sure about the jacques cousteau song hahaha but maybe it was something not on 14kt God... i only realized when i got to the merch table at the show that Panther actually has other material and related bands. i picked up a 7" which is good and very different from 14kt God. ended up losing the vinyl sleeve though :( alright i gotta head to the station, show starts in 30 min. if per chance anyone wants to listen, you can stream it on http://www.wuvt.vt.edu/listenlive
