Anyone have Sunshine Superman by Donovan? I really wanna hear it...
I have it, it's pretty good.

Glitterati 01-22-2006 12:07 AM
Velvet Underground anyone?
I'm a shameless fanboy.
I'm a shameless fanboy.
Lou Reed is the man.

I don't know why Loaded isn't nearly as popular as VU With Nico.

PinkFreud 01-22-2006 01:48 AM

it's because the first is so innovative and i think it has stronger peaks. loaded is good too though. it probably did better commercially because it had their one hit on it.

Broken Arrow 01-22-2006 09:19 AM
Nope. All of the music I download, is ripped straight off the CD. You can use it like a P2P for individual songs, but I don't.

It's not a RAM hog either. Better then any other P2P I've ever used.

Also good, since there is a MX room, where you can download off other MX'ers who have Soulseek.
I'm downloading it right now.

Brewer14 01-22-2006 09:50 AM

Soulseek can be confusing at first, but once you're used to it it's better than Kazaa or anything else I've tried.

Lunch 01-22-2006 10:01 AM

Mine is kind of slow and sucky, but when it works it's useful.

temporary 01-22-2006 10:08 AM
Amazing. Ever since the YSI thread in Other Music got shut down I've been limited to downloading full albums. Besides the mailing lists, I've headed on over to Soulseek, where there is plenty of good stuff.
Wish it didn't cost money... I'm looking for an alternative to Limewire, because of the whole little illegal issue. I might actually pay for that, although I might just pay for Napster.

Lunch 01-22-2006 10:11 AM

Soulseek? I don't think mine costs anything.

temporary 01-22-2006 10:17 AM
Soulseek? I don't think mine costs anything.
Really? I just Googled "Download Soulseek" and clicked on the first result I got. When I went to download it, it gave me a list of payment of options (one year, two year, etc.)

Soulseek is free

Broken Arrow 01-22-2006 10:33 AM

I got it off download.com

I can't figure it out though.

I can't find the musician forums room and I can't download from anyone else because its all grey.

Lunch 01-22-2006 10:34 AM

Mine just keeps failing. None of my searches find anything and it won't let me browse other people's files.

RockAndRoll 01-22-2006 10:38 AM

None of my downloading programs work. I don't know why though.

Glitterati 01-22-2006 11:55 AM

I've never heard Loaded before :ubersad: But Sweet Jane is such an awesome song.

PinkFreud 01-22-2006 11:58 AM

i'm uploading it then. no one should be without loaded.

Doctor Night 01-22-2006 12:05 PM

So, anyone like Dire Straits.

Go to where it has the rooms, right click and select "Refresh Room List". It might take a while and act as if it is frozen, but it is not.

Make sure you are connected, the box in the upper left next to Search Files should be green.

When the downloads are grey, that means you are in line. Click on the D/L S... tab to have it arrange from fastest to slowest, then click on the darkened files.

Government is in your computer

JonG 01-22-2006 12:49 PM

Nice, Bowie, Cream, Merle Haggard and RJ.

:)

thickasabrick 01-22-2006 12:59 PM

I can't beleive Robert Johnson is still recieving awards. He died decades ago.

PinkFreud 01-22-2006 01:01 PM

well it's not like he regularly reveives them. and he deserves it. he's influenced so many.

Glitterati 01-22-2006 01:12 PM
Nice, Bowie, Cream, Merle Haggard and RJ.

Yay 4 Bowie.

Brewer14 01-22-2006 01:25 PM
So, anyone like Dire Straits.
Who doesn't?

JonG 01-22-2006 01:25 PM

Lonnie Johnson influenced Robert so much to the extent that Robert would go around saying he was Robert "Lonnie" Johnson.

Charley Patton should be more noted then Robert Johnson. Charley was known as the Father of the Delta Blues, before Robert even started playing.

:)

/blues facts

Woodstock 01-22-2006 01:48 PM

I just realized how great King Crimson are. I mean, I liked them a lot before, but now, they seem amazing.

yeah, he said he was lonnie's brother too.

but still, i'd say that more bands note robert as an influence than patton or lonnie.

JonG 01-22-2006 01:50 PM

Yeah. When someone says delta blues, lots of people say Robert right away.

They're all still good :)

I'm becoming more addicted to live Grateful Dead. In the past week, I've gotten 3 Dick's Picks and The Grateful Dead OST and The Closing of Winterland. All together, 24 discs of pleasure.

hatebreeder 01-22-2006 01:57 PM

King Crimson rule, robert fripp is the man.

PinkFreud 01-22-2006 02:02 PM
King Crimson rule, robert fripp is the man.
that was random.

BludgeonySteve 01-22-2006 02:54 PM

Ah King Crimson. They probably got me into prog.

And you call yourself a fanboy, you should be ashamed.

Um, Slsk takes awhile to get I just had to f-around with it for awhile to understand. If you need any more help just ask, mkay?

robo2448 01-22-2006 03:27 PM

I'm listening to Sultans of Swing right now. Love this song. Mark Knopfler is the man, he kind of sings like Bob Dylan and is a great guitarist. I love his tone.

Loaded is my favorite VU album too, but all I have is that and VU & Nico.

JonG 01-22-2006 04:00 PM

I got Brothers In Arms for 2 bucks last year. :)

It's a good album.

thickasabrick 01-22-2006 05:18 PM

Yeah Knopfler is a really awesome guitarist.

Does Brian Setzer play the guitar in Stray Cats? I was listening to one of their albums at a friends last night, it had great guitar.

MBS 01-22-2006 05:22 PM

I think he does.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra's cover of Jingle Bells off of Merry Axemas is cool.

PinkFreud 01-22-2006 05:32 PM

just sent out loaded. you guys need to download it. or i'll die!

Phallus Dei 01-22-2006 05:41 PM

I'm not too fond of your Avatar PF that little white space bugs me a lot. Just an FYI, thought you should know.

All this VU talk made me want to show off my sweet John Cale avatar.

MBS 01-22-2006 05:45 PM
All this VU talk made me want to show off my sweet John Cale avatar.
Wow, you posted a lot on that account.

Glitterati 01-22-2006 07:01 PM

So I downloaded Loaded and it didn't work.

You know that avatar Strum had of the guy smashing into the keyboard? That's me right now.
