I interrupt this mod-exclusive conversation to make an announcement:

Carry on.

/lurks
Why lurk? Talk about Talking Heads, or Tiger Army, or Jesu. Iron Maiden if you have to.

Bartender 03-08-2005 10:29 AM
Not at the moment, maybe after second listening. But good though, I love the dark atmosphere.
Well, good.

Who did you borrow it from?

superpeer 03-08-2005 10:29 AM

Filthy Lurkers.

My good friend, Robbert. Who is actually become my music buddy. On RYM we have over 60 albums in common, which is like half of our collection.
I gave him Doolittle and Swagger (Pixies, Flogging Molly) and I got Tiger Army and In Flames - Lunar Strain.

He used to be a real punk, but now he likes all kinds of things, I have that effect on people.

I don't understand the compatibility list on RYM. The guy who I am apparently most compatible with, I share about 40 albums with, but the guy in second place, I share more. I even share more with Iai, and he's not even in my compatibility top ten :-/

Probably because the first guy doesn't have many albums in total, as opposed to the second guy who has a lot, so relatively speaking he has more in common.

Hello thread
God dammit, it's too bad I'm on my desktop... I have a link to Jelle's drunken endeavors in this thread where he unveiled "Wpah!"

I'll try to search for it.

EDIT: I'm just going to have to go on my laptop and find it.

I'm going to head out, though. I have to eat something before my observation and interview.

:nervous:

Ah, never thought of it like that. Suppose it could be, though.

Bartender 03-08-2005 11:08 AM

As I was adding my most recent purchases to RYM, I came across this review of Jesu's self-titled album. I've read my share of odd reviews before, but this probably comes in as the weirdest (the previous number one being the Eminem/banana sandwich review).
At last! The long-awaited Jesu! The first step towards fulfilling mankind's deep longing for a context in which the possessive apostrophe construction, Jesus', is a semantically realistic proposition!

Yes, for centuries, English-speaking man has been attempting to signify this subject's ownership of any number of objects by constructing sentences employing a possessive apostrophe -- but minus the customary succeeding 's' out of some misconceived notion that you couldn't possibly have two eses beside each other there, oh no, or because, sometimes, mysterious words known as "plurals" take an apostrophe after the 's' so maybe it's okay in this instance too. Efforts in this regard have thus far centred mainly around popular ancient Nazarene, Jesus, first born offspring of bearded Judaeo-Christian omnipotent entity, God, and, to a lesser extent, jazz-influenced industrial MC, MC 900 Ft Jesus.

Yet, no matter what objects have been attributed to the subject in this context, be it "Jesus' loving mercy", "Jesus' bitter, agonising suffering at the hands of the International Zionist Conspiracy" (thanks, Mel) or "Jesus' eclectic mixture of jazzy breaks and techno-goth funk", the fact remains that "Jesus" is a singular noun and these constructions simply won't ****ing work unless you put an 's' after the apostrophe you morons.

The advent of the band Jesu offers renewed hope that our dream might yet come true. However, this is but the first step in a process. We must yet be patient, friends, and await the coming of another! I think if we bide our time, then someone, somewhere, will form a second band called Jesu, unwittingly and independently of this Jesu, in the same way that Joseph Priestly and Karl Wilhelm Scheele, unwittingly and independently of each other, isolated the oxygen molecule in 1772 and 1774, before going on to find out that they were in fact monozygotic twins who had been tragically separated at birth and whose lives shared other extraordinary parallels, such as a predilection for sheepskin moccasins and marriage to women named Helga.

Or perhaps if someone could somehow inseminate and fertilise this Jesu so that it undergoes the process of mitosis, and then, O wonder!, there will be two bands known as Jesu and then they'll do a split release 7" and you'll finally be able to write a phrase such as "Jesus' split release" or "Jesus' forgiveness of we fallen children who cannot use apostrophes properly" AND IT WON'T BE A HEINOUS CRIME AGAINST THE GRAMMAR OF YOUR NATIVE TONGUE.

WHICH YOU'VE ONLY SPOKEN ALL YOUR LIFE AFTER ALL.
