Nice, I'm excited to go. I wish it was Floyd themselves, but this should do.

Leper 08-23-2007 06:28 PM

Wow that was quite the debate last page. IMO Roger is the better songwriter/composer.

MattSharpIsCool 08-23-2007 08:29 PM

Well it's hard to compare the two of them, because they write such completely different music individually.

However, I would say Roger probably is the better songwriter, but David really isn't that bad. The Division Bell is a pretty well written album I think.

Dragon_Prince 08-24-2007 07:13 AM

Roger better songwriter? I don't agree, he is a better lyricist. The songs are mostly written by Gilmour. And if you look at the back up band for Roger's solo career, you will notice they had so much influence on the music.

But the best songwriter is Richard Wright IMO, The great gig in the sky and Us and Them are great :)

MrConeman 08-24-2007 08:24 AM

Wearing the Inside Out is awesome too.

Leper 08-27-2007 06:35 PM

I like Us and Them but at the same time I think it's a little overrated. Maybe I've just listened to it too often.

Lunch 08-27-2007 06:46 PM

I think Us and Them is the peak of Dark Side

this

Leper 08-27-2007 07:25 PM

I don't think there really is a peak on Darkside. IMO it builds up right until the end of Eclipse.

MattSharpIsCool 08-27-2007 07:57 PM

Ya I really can't pick any one peak on Darkside, but Us and Them is a really awesome song.

gasmaskman 08-27-2007 08:19 PM

Us and Them is overrated, Time is better.

Lunch 08-27-2007 08:20 PM

You don't normally see people saying Time is better than song x because song x is overrated

Angmar 08-27-2007 08:21 PM
Us and Them is overrated, Time is better.
Agreed.

MattSharpIsCool 08-27-2007 08:30 PM

It's hard to say one song on Darkside is better than another.

It sounds cheesy and cliche, but Darkside really is better as a whole then as individual songs.

Collis 08-27-2007 08:46 PM

Not at all. You are spot on.

Lunch 08-27-2007 10:00 PM

Yea, it can still be taken as a whole and have a peak section. Us in the Them is the 6 minute peak of the 40 minute whole.

If not musically than certainly conceptually

gasmaskman 08-27-2007 10:04 PM
You don't normally see people saying Time is better than song x because song x is overrated
I'm just saying U&T is usually considered by people I know to be the best song, when I totally disagree as Time is better IMO.

Though every time I listen to DSOTM I always play every track because I can't stand not listening to the whole thing; it's just best that way.

Lunch 08-27-2007 10:06 PM

You and I have different ideas about 'everyone'

MattSharpIsCool 08-27-2007 10:09 PM

Most people I ask either say Time or Money are their favorite song off Darkside.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-27-2007 11:09 PM

Time would probably be my favourite.

Danger Bird 08-27-2007 11:29 PM

I like Brain Damage/Eclipse

Do the Floyd fans like Comets on Fire?

MrConeman 08-28-2007 01:09 PM

I like all of Dark Side, like when I listen I never skip a song, but for me Time is easily the highlight. The Lyrics, Dave's raspy singing, the guitar solo, the intro drums, the song is just amazing. Top three Floyd tune for me for sure.

MBS 08-28-2007 03:13 PM

Time's my favorite of DSoTM followed closely by Us and Them.

hell yes

Hamilcar 09-05-2007 10:24 PM

I like Us and Them followed by Any Colour You Like...just cant have one without the other.

I must have listened to Dark Side a million times, but for the first time right now I'm listening to it through headphones and oh my god. It's a completely different experience!! Easily my all-time favorite album. :smoke:

Ya seriously it's awesome.

Riva 09-06-2007 09:41 PM

Wish You Were Here and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn kick arse on good quality headphones.

MattSharpIsCool 09-06-2007 11:27 PM

I can see Piper being awesome, but I wouldn't expect WYWH. Well, besides Shine On, and Welcome to the Machine would probably be pretty badass.

The only thing I drive music into my ears with at my house are my Sennheisers. Best investment I've ever made. :thumb:

Have A Cigar sounds awesome, and the sample that introduces Wish You Were Here sounds excellently creepy.

Yield 09-22-2007 10:28 AM

I've distanced myself from WYWH over time, partly because of Have A Cigar and the title track, and partly because it sounds too much like a Gilmour album for me.

Riva 09-22-2007 05:58 PM

Why because of Have A Cigar and Wish You Were Here?

Yield 09-22-2007 06:18 PM

They don't really do it for me. Have A Cigar is okay, but Wish You Were Here hits me as boring, and both songs in succession just don't work for me.

Riva 09-22-2007 06:20 PM

Strange fellow.

I can see the Gilmour aspect though, especially with Shine On You Crazy Diamond bookending the album.

Yield 09-22-2007 06:24 PM

I mean, when I say that I distance myself from such an album, I don't mean I hate it; far from that. It's just not as great as I once thought it to be.

rippa32 09-22-2007 07:35 PM

It's funny you mention that, saying it sounds like a Gilmour album, because that's a good point. Especially when it is considered one of the Waters dominated albums.

breathe is mine.

speaking of darkside, what an amazing album, but also the most overrated album of ALL TIME.
proof being a million kids at my school that have only heard one floyd song (sometimes its a song not even on that album) but wear the ****ing shirt. you dont see anyone wearing a piper shirt do you? nope. lets all jump on the bandwagon.

and piper is their best cd hands down.
