I think you should buy Scenes From a Memory. That's what I'd reccomend as an intro to DT to anyone.

Especially if he likes Overture 1928. Yeah my DVD came today. It's brilliant. |
Does anyone have the link to those Octavarium nuggets?
|
Thanks for the help guys, I'll probably get Scenes From a Memory. They have it for like 7.99 at this used record store.

I love LSFNY, my friend has borrrowed it at the moment, well since September, but i miss it and want it back. I want to see TDOE again.
|
LSFNY is brilliant.
The version of ACOS on there is simply magnificent, James' vocals are pretty wow. |

pooty tang~!
uhh...i saw "just friends" and "rumor has it" the past 2 days. mediocre-ly funny movies. im in love with jennifer aniston. and john petrucci. no matter how much he's accused of wanking, showing off, being soulless, i love him and i want his 3 babies. because he still plays the stuffin outta that guitar better than you or i ever will. it's late. |

Probably not.
It would be highly amusing if he was. EDIT:Has anyone noticed that at just over 3 minutes into his once in a livetime drum solo, Portnoy starts playing 6:00? I thought that was cool /mentally added guitar part :( |
LSFNY is brilliant.

Yeah, I'm going to order the CD version so I can put it on my awesome new 20 GB mp3 player I'm getting for my Birthday.

The CD version has a bunch of great songs that aren't on the DVD like Metropolis, Another Day, The Mirror, etc. Learning to Live and ACOS are still the highlights. I love the way Rudess extends the keyboard solo before the vocals come in towards the end of LTL. |

Whoa whoa whoa. Another day?! /orders right now! |
Whoa whoa whoa.
Another day?! /orders right now!
Yeah, and you get the video with the CD (at least I did, if you don't I'll send it to you.) |
so the CD is a better deal than the DVD?
cuz i still kinda want the DVD... and happy, JP was NOT in those movies. although he and his guitar would've brought massive sex appeal to both. ok maybe just his guitar. |
The CD is better than the DVD, but still you can't watch the band play on a CD.
|
I just ordered the CD and WDADU.
the CD was a little more expensive than I would wish, (£12) but hey, I have Christmas money and want a live version of another day. Simple as that, really. |
That's not bad for 3 discs, it is their best live album, except for the fact that JLB's vocals are a bit dodgy at times.
|
I really think he's great on that album, where do you think he sounds bad?
|
did you just order it off amazon? cuz their prices are usually...iffy.
|
Amazon Marketplace... much cheaper.
|
aiite thanks. ima pick it up as well :] both CD and DVD
|
Is octavarium DT's last CD? im pretty sure it is, with all the references to past songs and references to circles (like how the last few seconds of Octavarium sound exactly like the beginning of The Root of All Evil, Labrie saying "Only to find I've come full circle"), and the "epic-ness" of Octavarium. Is it official? Because im pretty sure its the last.
|

I didn't... could you send it to me please man? |

Nah it shouldn't be. I hope not anyway. |

the beginning of the root of all evil is also the end of in the name of god. just like the beginning of as i am is the end of six degrees of inner turbulence. and i think if i remember correctly the beginning of the glass prison is the end of finally free. as for octavarium being epic, so was a change of seasons. and six degrees of inner turbulence. and i think the ending part of in the name of god is the most epic thing dream theater has ever written. so no, i don't think it's their last. plus, why would portnoy leave off after only seven steps of AA? |
They're such great musicians, they'll go on like Maiden have.
|
So I just finnished listening to Octavarium for the first time. I must say...
WOW! That song is amazing. I just don't completely understand what the song is about. Can anybody help. EDIT
http://dt.spatang.com/octavarium.php There you go.
Never mind this explained it. Thanks. |
