True. Bike was the first thing that came to mind when I thought of that album.

Six Foot Revolver 07-17-2005 10:45 AM

I think it is pretty safe to say that they may have been the tiniest bit high while writing that song

DeusExMachina 07-17-2005 10:47 AM

Heh. Syd Barrett was out of his mind on acid when writing that.

MBS 07-17-2005 12:22 PM

I just got Meddle yesterday......

it's .

DeusExMachina 07-17-2005 01:00 PM

I love Meddle. I really like A Pillow of Winds and Fearless (and, of course, Echoes.)

Lunch 07-17-2005 01:00 PM

You didn't own Meddle before that?
That entire album is pretty weird, but I love it.
I'd go as far as to say it's the greatest Rock album ever recorded. (needless to say Pink Floyd's best) I just love the imagery and ryming in his lyrics I mean it's just perfect for Psychedelic music. Ever time I go shrooming I have to play "The Gnome" with it's simple acoustic guitar and playful lyrics it's just perfect for walking to a shroom feild. The songwritting on this album is quite revolutionary aswell. This album is as perfect as a Rock album has gotton. Words really can't describe how I feel about this album.

DeusExMachina 07-17-2005 04:47 PM

Wow. High praise coming from Schyma. I agree it's a great album, but I wouldn't say it's Pink Floyd's best, let alone the best rock album ever. But, it's fun to listen to.

It's good and very entertaining, but doesn't compare to say, WYWH or others. It's really fun to listen to though.

Few people can comprehend the full genius of Syd Barrett. :p

I really enjoy the Roger Waters side of the Floyd but the Syd Barrett side of the Floyd does sooooo much more for me.

SrV_FeN63'StRaT 07-17-2005 05:06 PM

I have a 4ft by 2ft Wish You Were Here poster. :D

I had it when my friend gave me the entire Floyd discography, but in my Floyd n00bish-ness I deleted it.

What happened to Mister Blue Sky, Aaron?

MBS 07-17-2005 05:49 PM

I was logged in on MYR because my firefox glitched and had to switch to a different account. I had to relog in.

Riva 07-17-2005 05:52 PM

I thought you got a merge, though?

Also, did you get my rep message, c/o Bartender?

MBS 07-17-2005 05:56 PM
I thought you got a merge, though?

Nah, I just got the joindate and postcount added to this account, it was already made so I thought "why not?"

MalcolmYoungRock 07-17-2005 06:01 PM
Also, did you get my rep message, c/o Bartender?
On this account I have 0 rep, and on the other account the only rep message I have is "Welcome to the rep thread" from Strummy.

Riva 07-17-2005 06:14 PM

Oh bugger. Bad luck, then.

"It's sad that these people think he's such a wonderful subject, that he's a living legend when, in fact, there is this poor sad man who can't deal with life or himself. He's got uncontrollable things in him that he can't deal with and people think it's a marvellous, wonderful, romantic thing. It's just a sad, sad thing, a very nice and talented person who's just disintegrated."

All of them :p

I really like Echoes though. It's 20+ minutes long, and takes up an entire side on the album. I'm actually learning to play it now, I only know bits and pieces. Meddle is one of my favorite Floyd albums, it rules.

I nailed the whole thing essentially. But i couldn't record it.

occasionally i play it all the way through. I will tonight, for fun.

Otherside 07-18-2005 12:01 PM

I really like Fearless, it just has an effect on me that I can't describe. But you have to respect Echoes for just being amazing in general.

I know the beginning, and up to the solo, but I always play the Pompeii version's solo when I get to that point. I'm gonna learn the studio solo, and then a few parts at the end that I'm missing.

the pompeii bit with the slide?

I have to mould the 2 together to make it half playable (example- dave recorded one solo on a 24 fret gutiar, i don't have one, neither does he in pompeii) (another example- there are 5 guitars layered in one part) but I can certaintly do it.

Illmatic 07-18-2005 12:03 PM

How do you Floyd fans feel about Saucerful of Secrets and Obscured By Clouds? They're relatively unknown albums but I seem to be enjoying them.

Otherside 07-18-2005 12:04 PM

I don't have ObC, but SoS was hit and miss. I really liked a few tracks, but others just grated on my nerves too much.

Kind of off-topic, but what do you think of Immortal Technique Ill? My friend brought a cd over with him today and it's pretty good stuff.

I like them both. they're a bit patchy in places, but i enjoy them.

No the Pompeii solo where it zooms in on Dave's guitar, the solo right before the funky part. I'm bad at slide parts :upset:

Ray: I love OBC. The songs on there are all very good, and a lot of the solos rule. I think it's sometimes underestimated because not many people know about it.

And Saucerful of Secrets is great too. It resembles earlier, PATGOD type stuff, so it's somewhere else to turn to if you want Floyd like that (I enjoy both Syd and Dave era Floyd, but Dave more.) The other thing I really like about Saucerful is how Rick Wright plays a larger role. He wrote, and sings on, a lot of the songs, and he deserves to have a larger part in the music. He is a very talented musician.

It's very sad story that I am not ignorant to. I'm talking about the music not how he went insane. I don't think it's genius that he got drugged every day and eventully went insane because of it. I dig the music not the legend.

That's quite true! Echoes and One of these Days are both amazing, particularly Echoes (definitly one of the greatest rock songs of all time.) Am I the only one who thinks San Tropez is way underrated? Wright's jazz solo is awesome.

Alessandro 07-18-2005 12:20 PM

Can anyone upload some stuff from The Piper at The Gates of Dawn? I donīt know much about this album, so Iīd like to have a listen on a few songs. Thanks in advance

I love that, its great.

DeusExMachina 07-18-2005 12:45 PM

Man, how can you people learn all of Echoes? That song is soooo friggin big, i wouldn't have the patience to learn it. I barely have the patience to learn something like, say, Time or Money.

Illmatic 07-18-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah, I think Echoes is a little too ambitious.

yea i noticed that too
but only when he's playing with Pink Floyd
plain black t shirt with blue jeans
lol..
When I saw him at live 8, i instantly said, he's wearing the same thing as on the Pulse video

I haven't heard most of OBC (though I love the title track and Childhood's End is my second favorite Floyd song after Echoes) but SOS is pretty cool. The title track is a bit iffy, but Let There Be More Light and especially Set The Controls are winners for sure.
