I love Marty solos, but I can only play a few off of Youthanasia, and thats it! And I can't even play those very well (except A Tout Le Monde)

Jev 10-01-2005 03:51 AM
Yeah, Marty's solos always give me trouble. His phrasing, exotic scales, and just general dexterity he's got screw me over every time. He does all these motions that feel so strange to me.

That's why he's there and I'm here though I guess.
It's weird if you ever see a video live, he picks then pushes down the string and fingerpicks it.

Chu 10-01-2005 10:23 AM

I don't spose anyone has checked out this Megaded album?

Interesting news. I hope Dave keeps going. Some of the comments below the article are just cold.

I watched an instructional video of his, and he said he didn't use scales, which supirsed me and confused me. What he says he does is he pretty much bases everything around the chord being played. I've tried to do it, but it hasn only worked out for me in pre-planed solos :(.

Well just keep going at it and you'll be there and he'll be retired.

Oh but it's HXC to hate popular bands.

He makes his own scales by ear.

And following the chords is used religiously in jazz. You just gotta start with slow simple progressions and know the fretboard like the back of your hand.

I can't improv it like that, but I try and do it in my melodies as much as possible.

I hope he does too. They were here a couple of weeks ago
and I couldn't see them :upset: so I would really like to see them before
they call it quits.

another thing wasn't MegaDeth kinda dave's solo career any way?
I mean sure he had a lotta talant (Friedman for example)
but when I think MD I think dave....is that wrong?

I think Dave riffs and Marty leads.

Jev 10-01-2005 02:14 PM

I think of RIP era Megadeth.

123

Altho ellefson was in megadeth for a good while, I just always think Dave and Marty.

Britton 10-01-2005 02:16 PM

Yea that's mostly how I think of them...probably cause I play Guitar

MAthiAS 10-01-2005 02:18 PM

I think its more because Junior only has two good bass riffs per album. And though Menza is good, he didn't bring anything too unique to the table. Cept Hangar 18 lyrics lol.

Didn't know menza wrote those lyrics

Yup, it's true.

Jev 10-01-2005 02:23 PM

Wow I never thought Menza would be capable of writing stuff like that.
/puts down Menza.

If you mean Melodic Control. Yeah he says he doesn't use strict scales. I found it hard to follow in places, I think it's me though, I need to be come more advanced first, then I'll try it again.

Really, I thought dave wrote those for sure.

Menza didn't write the lyrics. He just came up with the idea to write a song about them.

there's a movie from 1981 called Hangar 18, is that what it's based on?

MAthiAS 10-01-2005 04:55 PM

I don't know, is that movie about aliens?

Jev 10-01-2005 04:56 PM

I haven't seen it, only found out about it today so I'm interested in seeing it.

Hale_of_Gunfire 10-01-2005 06:21 PM

Peace sells has to be the best megadeath song ever along with hanger 18

BludgeonySteve 10-01-2005 06:23 PM

There are some that I prefer more than those. But those are great songs.

MAthiAS 10-01-2005 06:51 PM

I hate it when people spell deth wrong.

heavy metal kid 10-01-2005 06:54 PM

Take No Prisoners, My Last Words and Tornado of Souls are better than those imo, Peace Sells is good but is relative simple; Hangar 18 is indeed great but just for the solos.

Chu 10-01-2005 07:02 PM
I hate it when people spell deth wrong.
Same :upset:

Did anyone read an interview a while ago and the media person asked Mustaine what the band name meant?

clairvoyant 10-01-2005 07:29 PM

Its a nuclear fallout term used to describe a million deaths, I believe.

heavy metal kid 10-01-2005 07:33 PM
Its a nuclear fallout term used to describe a million deaths, I believe.
Mega=Million
Deth=Death without an "a"
So, i think your right.

MAthiAS 10-01-2005 07:58 PM

That is right.

geezer6970 10-01-2005 11:58 PM

1. holy wars
2. train of consequences
3. angry again
4. sweating bullets
5. peace sells
6. polaris
7. crush
8. hangar18
9. insomnia
10. a tout le monde

those r my favorite songs (Not in order)

heavy metal kid 10-02-2005 12:11 AM

How many Megadeth albums have you heard?

I know those are your favorites, but Crush 'em and Insomnia aren't posted very often on favorites lists.

There was a concert over here, Manchester I think, where the ticket company had printed the name wrong on every ticket. Needless to say Dave was pissed.

I can't really imagine dave pissed. He seems far too mellow.

Enlighten Me 10-02-2005 08:44 AM

Hmm, after reading most of this thread i see that most people hear mostly old stuff (KIMB - RIP) but really i think they upholded their image pretty well as apposed to other bands (metallica :().
I agree that their old stuff is amazing, but CTE,Youth and Cryptic are great albums as well.. (Risk and TWNAH could have been better)
And as far as TSHF... wow some really good material, kicks the ****ing **** out of st.anger...

Yeah you pretty much nailed it there.

They did go away from their Thrash images with CTE and Youthanasia, but they are still quality albums. And obviously Thash > General Metal so yeah everyone prefers early megadeth.

MAthiAS 10-02-2005 09:52 AM

Its all great except Risk, just the thrash is better.

I still hold that Cryptic Writings is their best non-thrash album.
