The Metal Shop tones are much better than the stock ones.

the better question is

WHY THE FUCK IS CURLING AN OLYMPIC SPORT!

AG 03-01-2010 04:49 AM

Because it's awesome.

The_Mop 03-01-2010 04:49 AM

Ice hockey is where it's at \m/

Anyone watch it last night?

Aes820 03-01-2010 05:03 AM

There are worse sports than curling in the summer games.

I'm glad for Canadia re the ice hockey.
Go the Commonwealth!

AG 03-01-2010 05:56 AM

I watched it while getting drunk and bowling at staff xmas party.

solo 100 + orange dual amps sounds pretty good imo

Sad But True 03-01-2010 10:51 AM

The dual amp feature is only on the X3, which already comes with all the model packs. I do like the Solo 100 model though.
I did fix it up, and ran it for a few months, but now the carbs are fucked and it's impossible to get the manifold to fit the newer carbs and the older block shape.

It just about runs, and it looks awesome.

That's near as dammit the same as mine, except mine has a white roof and front grille.

It doesn't have stereo, not that you'd want one, because the engine sounds sweet.
**** i hate carbs... at my dealership i had to tweak the carbs on a jag E type... such a bitch... especially because the guy put this rediculous cam in it that made it almost impossible to idle

OrangeLightning 03-01-2010 01:09 PM

got waaaay too wasted after the game last night... lost 2 buds of mine... they just like evaporated.. into tiny green globules

can also use it on the toneports.

tbh it was kinda cool when it came out, but i never use the dualtone feature anymore. pretty much i just stick with a single 5150 model nowadays.

Blue_Moon 03-01-2010 04:33 PM

slo 100 is the best amp on the pod fyi... put a tubescreamer in the mix and its a nice tone

also i watched hte ice hockey, wasnt bad at all for someone who's never ever watch it

Sad But True 03-01-2010 05:46 PM

the Solo 100 is actually the basis of pretty much every heavy tone I've ever made. My 7 stringo otone is roughly 55% solo100 45% big bottom, and my 6 string tone is 70% Solo and 30% big bottom. My Rock tone is also the Solo 100. on its own

mnemonic 03-01-2010 06:20 PM

i haven't used the solo 100 in a long *** time, but from what i remember, it was pretty sweet for rock type stuff. i should go mess around with that model again.

also, i've sworn off the big bottom model forever, it has always been scooped and thin sounding no matter what, the 5150 model is way more natural sounding and records better imo.

Sad But True 03-01-2010 07:01 PM

To be honest, for some reason, I honestly don't care if my tone sounds 'natural' or 'real' anymore, because at the end of the day it never will be and I will always be trying to make it be something it isn't. So instead I'm just using whatever tone sounds heavy, fits the mix and the music, and sounds generally pleasing, regardless of whether it sounds like a real amp or not.

The solo 100 is just a generally nice patch, and the bi bottom gives it that metallic edge that I really need, especially when I'm in F#.

Also: I bought David Attenborough's Planet Earth for £10 and it's the best £10 ever spent.

mnemonic 03-01-2010 07:03 PM

what i mean by 'natural' is more balanced, probably shouldn't use the word 'natural' when describing digital stuffs cos it throws tube purists into a fit, it seems like. criminal model has a flatter eq, less fizzy, less ridiculously tight imo.

big bottom was always way too harsh as far as the eq of the model went, no mids, little bass, all treble. though these tendencies can be good if you're layering it with a looser and fuller sounding model on the other side, i used to blend the recto model (i forget which one) and the big bottom.

Modern Iconoclast 03-01-2010 07:05 PM

I usually blend the 5150 with the Bogner or the Engl models.

my 7 string tone went through several incarnation, all bi-amping with the big bottom patch (I know what you mean about all treble, but that's probably the one thing most of the other patches lack: treble and presence.) First it was BB with modern high gain, then with the treadplate and/or diamondplate model, then with the criminal, then with that chunk chunk model, now it's settled on the Solo 100.

I got it for Christmas. I had to weigh up the difference between bluray and dvd...

bluray - 4 disks, better sound and picture, no making of.

dvd - 5 disks, one extra for the making of.

I went for the dvd version.
