Birmingham, is it?
Nope, more to the right. Think Leicester/Nottingham area if you're familiar with them (Nottingham does own the greatest gig venue in the known world)
Question: What's the general opinion on people from Manchester? Because one of my brother's faltmates didn't seem to think too highly of them :-/
Like the music from there, hit and miss. Some people are ok, and others are horrible pieces of work

(usually the ones wishing to leave fall into category 1)

ATM 04-22-2005 11:26 AM

Trent Reznor released Nine Inch Nail's new single as a Garageband score, allowing fans to remix and mess with it. I am thinking about doing this. I think Cain should too, because I know for a fact he uses Garageband.

This post should be a Pit thread...

So I'm done with the California State Standardized Testing...actually I just gueesed on all of them, I wasn't in Geometry for the whole year so I forgot most of all the crap that was on there. So I got done early, of course, and I had my lunch with me (because we had a short brunch period before testing). I finished my Coke and pretzels and went to throw my trash away. As I was in the process of throwing the crap away, my teacher (Geometry teacher) told me to sit down. I said "why, I'm throwing my crap away" and he said "that's it, get out of here". So, I gladly obliged.

So after I walked around for the past half hour or so, walking of campus, etc...I visited my old Biology teacher and here I am now. This has been a weird day.

I can only think of good bands/artists from Manchester, or from most places, actually. Except maybe The Stone Roses. I suppose I just never find out the origins of bands I don't like as much as those I do. Which bad bands that I might have heard come from there?

Adam Jones is GOD 04-22-2005 11:54 AM

Not really bands, more like albums now that i think about it.

Oasis being the prime example. Elbow are another. Inconsistent.
When they're good, they're good. When they're bad.....

Now I realise there isnt that many bands from Manchester that spring to mind straight away. Hmmm

clearvision 04-22-2005 11:56 AM

Hmm are oceansize from manchester? I have a feeling they are, but it may be Liverpool

I was counting Oasis as "good", since they've had good albums. They just also had really bad ones, yeah.

Apart from those already mentioned, I had Happy Mondays, Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio, (most of which I don't actually like that much, but I can see how many do like them). I had some more too, but I can't think of them.

EDIT: Maybe Simply Red. I think they (or at least the main guy) were from Manchester.

Adam Jones is GOD 04-22-2005 12:00 PM

Im completely hopeless of knowing where bands come from at the moment. MTV2 is having a new music week, and im being bombarded by new bands from all over the place. Having a hard enoguh time remembering band names, let alone locations

IAJP 04-22-2005 12:00 PM

I have no idea I'm afraid.
What kind of music do they play?

When someone says 'Manchester', I usually think of 100s of bands that I could name from there. Then I forget all but 2. My memory needs work

clearvision 04-22-2005 12:04 PM

Oceansize - quality prog stuff..I compare them to pink floyd/radiohead/incubus

Definateley worth checking out their album effloresce.

IAJP 04-22-2005 12:11 PM

Sounds good.
I'll have to check some of their stuff out.

MTV2 is annoying the hell out of me lately. I used to watch it because of Headbangers Ball and the Viva La Bam reruns, but their new format is annoying as hell. They're trying too much to be "funny" like FUSE.

clearvision 04-22-2005 12:14 PM

Is fuse available in the UK, what channel on sky digital?

Whoa, it's actually cloudy out here; the weather here for the past two months has been either

a) Windy as hell
or
b) Sunny and hot as hell.

Screw California. I hope it goddamn rains.

Don't worry, 3,000 miles away the same thing is happening. It was mid 80's a couple days ago along with hot and sunny, now it's 50's with clouds/rain.

I swear, man. I don't know why I stay here.

Oh, yeah, it's because of the music scene. Damn you, awesome Claifornia metal scene!

We have crap weather and a crap music scene.

Shred Danson 04-22-2005 12:35 PM

Sorry for you, buddy. This time of the year is usually when it gets really windy here, and I hate it. The wind sucks, especially when it's blowing at about 35 miles per hour. The rest of the year, it's triple-digit temperatures for us...

What about the 9:30 club? They have amazing concerts. I am going to see Porcupine Tree there in a few days.

True, but those places are few and far between. The local scene in Annapolis is lame.

Merriweather is cool too.

I like the 9:30 club because they have good bands, it's small so you are very close to the stage, and the tickets are always $10-20.

Nope, actually ages. A couple of weeks at least.

December, I think. Money doesn't come by easy for me.

Define "ages".

I hate being at a CD shop without having money to buy CDs.

Impossible, I vividly remember you buying "Fresh fruit..." and Hüsker Dü amongst others, can't have been weeks ago.

PS: I uploaded a Dandy Warhols track for you in the YSI if you missed it.

I'm out now.
