I never really like No Quarter.

Illmatic 08-11-2005 04:17 PM

I think both versions are "Eh, okay".

Leper 08-11-2005 04:18 PM

I found it very hard to believe the Over the Hills and Far Away only made it to #50-something on the U.S. pop charts when it was released.

Leper 08-11-2005 04:20 PM
I never really like No Quarter.
I find that it's definitely one of those songs you have to listen to while in bed, in complete darkness.

ultimaterocker 08-11-2005 04:23 PM

no quarter to me is just kinda one of those meh songs

Leper 08-11-2005 04:29 PM

I used to find it a "meh" song too but the more i listen to it, the more i'm blown away by Plant's eerie vocals. Tool's version is amazing too.

bmxrunner 08-11-2005 04:47 PM

i always liked no quarter. not one of zeps top tracks, but its got a catchy riff and the eeriness is pretty cool. my mom was alkin by durin the start with the piano(?) before the guitar comes in, and she said it sounded like a ghost

Walrus Gumboot 08-11-2005 05:05 PM
Walrus, its turns out I have heard a song on Greendale.

It's the last one, "Be the Rain".

Anysways I lisened to it all, what a great album, I think I'm going to buy the Greendale with the extra DVD thing in it. I've also seen the movie for sale.
I would recommend the movie, it brings the story all together, it's pretty much the entire album played through from start to finish, and all the characters lip sync to Neil, like in Grandpa's Interview when Grandpa says:
That guy just keeps singin'!
Can somebody shut him up?
I don't know for the life of me
where he comes up with that stuff.

It's all shot in old grainy 60's film too++

EDIT: Thanks to Thickasabrick and Livewired for the harmonica help too :thumb:

thickasabrick 08-11-2005 05:16 PM
I'm guessing this has been asked and argued over many times before, but have you guys heard Tool's cover of No Quarter? If so, which do you think is better. I personally prefer Tool's, but both are quite amazing.

/guesses the majority will choose Zep's version
I've actually never heard Tools version...I wouldn't mind hearing it if anyone doesn't mind posting it. If it's not too much trouble.

I wouldn't say it's Zep's best song, but I could probably place it in the top 10 or 15.

And concerning harmonicas...I bought one for five bucks when I was about 13 or so except it wasn't in a specific key, I think the term is chromatic. I've never really figured out how to play it because everywhere I've read/asked about harmonicas it always explains the type that are in keys.

Have you noticed that the classic rock regulars seem to have come in waves?

1st wave: People that started the thread (b0nz0, RNR, Badmoon, DVG, i am miik, RockAndRoll)

2nd wave: People that helped get the thread along the way (myself, Lunch, JPJ, Livewired, Woodstock, Thickasabrick, Schyma, Creedence Clearwater, Paranoidd -when he posted here, now he's too cool :upset:-, Seafroggys, Illmatic, magicbus, Med... I guess. )

3rd wave: People that helped add a LOT more posts to the thread (Walrus, JonG, leppermessiah, pigsonthewing2, Canadian_Guy, robo2448, Jam2Me)

Sorry if I forgot anyone :(

Edit: Sorry magicbus.

It's good for like ambient music. Like if you are doing something else, you listen to No Quarter in the background.

And yes I singlehandedly made this thread what it is today.
