...have I?

/raises eyebrow in intrest
Well, you haven't heard of him I bet, but he used to play blues for a living until his wife (my grandmother, obviously...) had his first kid, in which case he packed up and moved north.

He did just about no recording, he was just a touring bluesman. He crossed paths with a lot of more famous ones.

angusmaster 08-10-2005 06:27 PM
That's pretty cool, actually...have you heard about my granddad?
i havent

Coolness.

Just got the new Rolling Stone mag. Hendrix is on the cover, and there's a huge article about him. Also, an interview with Roger Waters.

BludgeonySteve 08-10-2005 06:34 PM

This is a little late, but Queen are awesome. Their live show is about 20 times better than their recorded music, by the way. Get a Queen DVD.

It sounds like the quality of the stories that your granddad told you were higher than the quality of mine's

"..and then we told Johnny, yes we did, we said 'Johnny, if you don't steal that ther chicken...'"
He does have a few good ones about the KKK comming to harrass the Irish and the Irish kicking their asses

...and he had that one about the time they were in the Pacific and landed in San Fransisco, they only let officers into a certain hotel, and one of my grandpa's friends actually owned the hotel and had a huge party on one of the floors just to spite them

/end grandpa stories

angusmaster 08-10-2005 06:42 PM

My great grandpa was irish , he was a drinkin one , like the rest of my family.

The KKK practically chased my granddad up north...he figured that as soon as he found out that he got my grandmother pregnant (this is all on my dad's side, obviously) that the South wasn't a good place to raise a family, and not with a job that required him roaming around the South.

Also, he has a ton of stories about brawls and fights at the bars and clubs he used to play in...he is a short guy, so he has Napoleon Syndrome to an extent, and he always had to deal with people thinking they could walk all over him...well, he's a little guy, but the old adage "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog" comes to mind, although he could be exaggerating those tales a little to impress his grandkids .

wanton 08-10-2005 07:17 PM

everyone vote moe. :)

Walrus Gumboot 08-10-2005 07:28 PM

That's kind of like my great great grandparents Alfonso and Conchette ( at the names) that got run out of Italy by the mob

IMO The mob>the KKK as far as ethics are concerned :p

I voted moe.

Against Miik! 08-10-2005 08:01 PM

As heard in Goodfellas, the mob provided protection for those who couldn't get it from the cops. I wish it was the 30s. I would be a mobster.

Jam2Me 08-10-2005 08:10 PM

Goodfellas...great movie, makes me want to become a gangster. I currently work for a small Italian food & imports store, I'm 100% Irish, I should ask one of the mobsters if I could work at his house and fulfill my life of crime.

^Did you guys see this?

Yonder Mountain String Band seems like the odd one out on that list.

Against Miik! 08-10-2005 08:13 PM

By the way Tower of Power, awsome band

angusmaster 08-10-2005 08:23 PM

That's a really good movie.

angusmaster 08-10-2005 08:31 PM

That link that lead to that thread , it said at the top alternative music under the thread category and i thought thats what you were talkin about cause i didnt recognize any of those name of bands , srry.

PinkFreud 08-10-2005 10:33 PM

so, classic rock. its like. coming back. you know?

Leper 08-10-2005 11:38 PM

Why does this thread always start to die when i make an appearance?

/retorical question.

PinkFreud 08-10-2005 11:49 PM

thread killer. um. i think that its funny how hendrix's here he comes (lover man) and his cover of rock me baby have the same riff. not funny maybe. more lamish. at least its a good riff.

Leper 08-10-2005 11:54 PM

Ya i've noticed some songs like that too. Please don't bash Metallica because I say this, but one part of the "Four Horsemen" solo is EXACTLY the same as one part of the solo in "Sad But True". Once again, kind of lame, but at least it's a good solo.

Leper 08-11-2005 12:19 AM

Has anyone else ever heard Yes referred to as the longest running prog band? Wasn't Pink Floyd around before them? Or were they not considered prog until later..?

PinkFreud 08-11-2005 12:20 AM
Has anyone else ever heard Yes referred to as the longest running prog band? Wasn't Pink Floyd around before them? Or were they not considered prog until later..?
Leper 08-11-2005 12:25 AM
yes, but pink floyd didnt stay together as long.
that's true...how silly of me  can't believe i didn't even realize that lol.
As heard in Goodfellas, the mob provided protection for those who couldn't get it from the cops. I wish it was the 30s. I would be a mobster.
But then there would be no classic rock!

warwickcorvette 08-11-2005 03:41 AM

pink floyd are a great classic rock band

_HiGhVoLtAgE_ 08-11-2005 08:34 AM
pink floyd are a great classic rock band
they are more than great

Canadian-Guy 08-11-2005 10:15 AM
pink floyd are a great classic rock band
That is very true.

Another great classic rock artist is Meat Loaf.

Broken Arrow 08-11-2005 11:04 AM

Sorry Magicbus, the thunder storm caused my power to go out right as I was sending that album and then when I came back on the computer my internet was down for the whole day.

MBS 08-11-2005 11:09 AM
But then there would be no classic rock!
Explain your logic behind this, please.
