Holy monkey nuts, Batman, this Coheed & Cambria song sounds like Nightwish or something

Definitely not what I was expecting. This is crazy awesome.

Yea, that's the song I was listening to. I'm still in shock.

MidnightRider 01-16-2006 01:45 AM

Hey Phallus, could you hook me up with that C&C?

UTvol48@aol.com

Leper 01-16-2006 01:46 AM

Yeah that's definitely one of the better songs on the album.

Edit: I love the symphony touch in the background.

jpj 01-16-2006 01:47 AM

Ahhh, I want to go to bed, but I want to keep listening :(

Leper 01-16-2006 01:51 AM

That's always an aggravating situation haha.

I don't like Coheed and the Cambria. The singer is almost as bad as Geddy Lee. My brother is a big fan of their newest album so I've heard a few songs from it but I just can't get past the vocals.

Yesterday was such a crap day. First, I lost my power at 2 in the morning. That means no heat when it's like 15 degrees outside. Which means I'm stuck lying in my bed with like 8 blankets on me. And then at 3:00 I had to go to a track meet where I pretty much sat around the whole time and didn't get home till after midnight so I couldn't do anything last night. I did listen to some pretty good albums at the track meet though:

Cream- Fresh Cream
The Beatles- Help
High Fidelity Soundtrack
Bob Dylan- Greatest Hits Vol. 3
And maybe another one or two I don't remember. It was a pretty crap day though.
I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure out the basic principals of sitar playing if you fooled around with it and/or read up on it enough. I could sum up the basic principals of guitar playing in a few sentences.

I had the ultimate Classic Rock station, it was literally amazing. It had awesome programs like Classic Vinyl, which was an entire album they played every night at midnight without breaks...they had Psychedelic Snack and Psychedelic Sunday, which was Psychedelic music every lunch and Sunday morning. They also had cool Blues shows Sunday nights that played mostly rare Blues from the 30's up until now but also popular blues, and it always had this funny Rastafarian weather reporter that would (fakely) give the weather report as he was driving down Main Street and toking up...he'd always end his report by saying "Not too many cops out today, but I'd advise you to roll down your windows, just to be on the safe side."
That radio station sounds pretty jive turkey.

Does anyone here like Bluegrass? I know most of you are thinking "Oh god, country *vomits*", but the instrumental pieces of most any bluegrass song are amazing. Download "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Earl Scruggs, he's basically a pioneer banjo player, he invented the "three-finger-roll" plucking style. Just listen to the song.

JonG 01-16-2006 11:08 AM

I listen to some local bluegrass. Yonder Mountain could be considered bluegrass. There are a lot of local bands here that are awesome at bluegrass.

np: Toots & The Maytals - Pomp and Pride

Trust me, I doubt anyone in here is thinking that.

I'd like to hear more actually, like Yonder Mountain (hint, hint).

JonG 01-16-2006 11:32 AM

I could send out some Yonder Mountain. First 'moon would have to send out Elevation.
I'm back and I got a new guitar
Didn't you get a new guitar for your birthday?

I may be getting a Fender 100 watt amp soon though. :D

And my friend fixed my ds-1 so I'm getting that back tomorrow.

DS-1 + Ibanez Tube Screamer + CH-1 + Ibanez pickups + Fender 100 watt amp = Fucking sick tone. :)

JonG 01-16-2006 11:45 AM

No..

My birthday is in February.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. I've kind of lurked in here for a little while today, and I read through some random pages just trying to get an idea of what you guys listen to and talk about. My favorite band is probably Pink Floyd, but I also love The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Cream, Deep Purple, Bob Dylan, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Yes. I find that bands like Guns N' Roses and AC/DC generally get on my nerves, they are good in moderation, especially AC/DC don't really seem to have any depth to them. I try to be open in my tastes though.

Bluegrass is good, I have a few songs on my computer. Earl Scruggs is a god on banjo. Right now I'm listening to Come Together - The Beatles. Anyone else love Abbey Road as much as I do? Something and I want You can be a little slow and drawn out, but I still love them. I think the Abbey Road Medley (You Never Give Me Your Money - The End/Your Majesty) is really cool.

Welcome to the forums. Great introduction, most people new to the forum don't bother to read any recent conversation and respond to the first post which is around a year and a half old.

I agree with you about Abbey Road. I think it's one of the most perfect albums ever. Every song on the first side is just awesome, and then the 2nd side flows together so brilliantly. If any album is perfect, I think it might be Abbey Road.

And Abbey Road >>> Sgt. Pepper's, sorry Jac. Though Sgt. Pepper's is great too.

NickMason 01-16-2006 12:04 PM

I love Sgt. Peppers too, I don't actually own the album unfortunately, but I've heard all the songs off it at one point or another, and I've got a few of the songs on my computer. I think it's cool how they put "When I'm 64" on there, considering that was one of the first songs they recorded as a group together, something like 5 years before.

Currently listening to: Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts I-V

I'll try to get it out soon. It's a fine Bluegrass album; filled with solid writing, melodies and picking.

Thoughts on the Stones NickMason?

:hugs: welcome :)

I just picked up Abbey Road and I love it. For me, Something doesn't really drag on too much, because of how great the middle section is. Because, I Want You, and sometimes Sun King all drag on a bit for me. The "medley" is great, but I just wish Golden Slumbers was longer; That's one of McCartney's best vocal preformances.

MidnightRider 01-16-2006 12:12 PM

I've got a couple of instrumental bluegrass cd's my friend burned for me, I like them alot. I always listen to 'em while I'm out hunting.

NickMason - Welcome to the forums man, it's always good to have another Floyd/Beatles fan around.

Sun King is so incredibly chill and relaxing though. I used to think that the "You're asking me will my love grow, I don't know, I don't know..." part in Something sounded out of place and didn't like it when I first heard it, but now I love it.

And Golden Slumbers is amazing singing.

The only bluegrass I have is one Yonder Mountain String Band cd. Unless Garcia and Grisham count. But yeah, I could use some more good bluegrass.

Revolver > Abby Road (easily)

Abby Road for me is like a beautiful blind schizo girl who's prude but has a great personality. I don't know that's just how I feel......:p

Edit: Can someone send out Green Onions by Booker T. & the M.G.'s?

MidnightRider 01-16-2006 12:17 PM

Abbey Road is probably my second favorite Beatles album, behind Rubber Soul. I don't think Something drags on at all, it's perfect.
Sun King is so incredibly chill and relaxing though.
I like sometimes, but I don't always listen to it all the way through. It's not a detriment to the album at all.

bah. abbey road is superior to the other beatles albums based on the fact that on abbey road, their vocals are so much better and their instrumental playing is great. better. more good.

Indeed

The vocal harmonies on Abbey Road are absolutly perfect, the best on record.

And the bridge for Something ("you ask me will my love grow, i don't know, i don't know" or whatever) is the best part of the song IMO.

123. I love that part, especially on the Concert for George. I enjoy watching Ringo on that DVD because compared to the other 3 percussionists on that DVD, Ringo sucks. They do all these complicated fills during WMGGW, and Ringo's sitting there banging on his ride and snare. It's quite humorous.

JonG 01-16-2006 01:46 PM

The best part in Something is the solo. It's amazing.

np: Pressure Drop

'moon, what's your favorite song on Funky Kingston? I love Pomp and Pride.

truth. not to mention that it has 2 of paul's best vocal songs. oh! darling and golden slumbers. and because is just amazing.

and yes, the bridge is the best part.

Anyone else like this song?

rbv 01-16-2006 02:55 PM

It's pretty good though I don't think it stands up to earlier Who imo.
