Brew 10-16-2005 09:30 AM

Nope, but I came very close to buying it once.

rippa32 10-16-2005 10:52 PM

Do you know what vintage footage is on it?

Brew 10-17-2005 10:12 AM
Do you know what vintage footage is on it?
I think its mainly a variety of interviews etc..pasted together of him talking about how he wrote various Sabbath songs.

I've heard pretty crappy things about it, but if I see it again I'll probably buy it.

rippa32 10-17-2005 10:46 PM

It would be good I think because it'd be great to learn how he writes stuff, but I think Ill get Never Say Die and that Story Of Black Sabbath one with all the random songs first.

Oh and one more thing, What pressing of the vinyl debut album do you have? Is it the one with the cool poem inside?

Brew 10-18-2005 07:39 AM

2nd edition, white background with black lettering and the inverted cross with the poem in the middle.

I'll take more pics of my vinyl soon.

Brew 10-18-2005 04:42 PM

I just got back in from seeing An Evening with Ronnie James Dio :D:D

I'll post a full review tomorrow, but the set list was this:

Tarot Woman (rainbow)
The Sign of the Southern Cross (black sabbath)
One Night in the City
---
Stand up and Shout
Holy Diver
Gypsy
Drum solo
Caught in the Middle
Straight Through the Heart
Invisible
Rainbow in the Dark
Shame on the Night
Guitar + Keyboard Solo
---
Gate of Babylon (rainbow)
Heaven and Hell (black sabbath)
Man on the Silver Mountain/Catch the Rainbow (rainbow)
Long Live Rock n Roll (rainbow?)
The Last in Line

They may have played another song, most likely We Rock but I had to leave right after The Last in Line to get my bus.

Now I'm off to sleep

rippa32 10-18-2005 05:51 PM

yeah Long Live Rock 'n' Roll is rainbow, although I thought Joe Lynn Turner did it, musta been wrong there.

How much do you reckon a first edition debut album would cost?

JACKROXYOU 10-18-2005 05:57 PM

saw sabbath at ozzfest.

amazing!!

you think they will finally make hall of fame?

Awesome!! I'd pay incredible money to see that show!!

And then to meet Dio would just be icing on the cake.

rippa32 10-19-2005 12:13 AM

I know what you mean, if only he would come to Australia. You're a lucky one brum.

Brew 10-19-2005 02:40 AM

For a show that had the crowd waiting 2 hours for it to begin (doors were 7pm, they came on stage at 9pm) it was amazing.

They had technical problems with the keyboards which meant the show would have been alot longer, but what we got was still awesome. I was amazed that they played Tarot Woman first, not many people around me recognised it :D

I got chatting to a guy who's 50 whilst waiting for the show to begin, he said that he first saw Dio in 1971 with Elf, and they were supporting Deep Purple. We both sang really loud during the Rainbow and Sabbath songs, especially Heaven and Hell.

rippa32 10-19-2005 03:50 AM

Sing me a song youre a singer, sing me a song youre a bringer of evil

It's Heaven and Hell, oh well

:thumb:

Anyway on a serious note, how much do you reckon a first pressing debut album would cost? Im thinking about buying one.

Brew 10-19-2005 07:18 AM

£60.

Edit: ''The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 5 characters.''

So, we have a 5 char. limit again?

/me remembers old days of 12345 rather than 123

Kronos 10-19-2005 07:37 AM

Cool setlist. Who's drumming with him these days?

I hope I get another chance to see him before he has a stroke or alzheimer's or something.
:upset:

Brew 10-19-2005 08:32 AM

Simon Wright is on drums at the moment, he's brilliant.

During the start of Heaven and Hell, everyone was singing/humming/oooohing along as the intro progressed, Dio liked it so much he got the band to play it again so we could sing/hum/ooh again.

Those lyrics really annoy me for some reason, they just seem so bad, but they do make sense

rippa32 10-19-2005 09:38 PM

Hey buttons are working in the reply box (italics, bold and the like).

And whats wrong with the lyrics? One of his best imo. Amd brum where did you get a price of 60 pounds from? Thats quite a lot, how much would a second edition cost then? I might have to take the cheap way out.

Brew 10-20-2005 09:45 AM

I was reading Record Collector magazine a few months ago and they had a Vertigo special, with prices for all the best albums to come from that label.

I think a 2nd edition would cost around £35, but odds of finding one in good condition may be slim.

Not as bad as one of his earlier efforts..."Old shiny boots, with strings and flutes - he's rising like a crazy balloon!"....

Er, yes....

BTW - Which song?
PS - NOT you, Brum (you know too much about old RJD

I can't put the words to a song...not yet anyway...

Kronos 10-20-2005 12:50 PM

I'll give you a clue - RJD seems to think that the title of this song rhymes with

"He'll harm ya!"

The rest of the world doesn't

Brew 10-20-2005 12:51 PM

Snake Charmer?

Kronos 10-20-2005 12:54 PM

KER-CHING!!
Round one to Lord Brumm:thumb:

Brew 10-20-2005 01:10 PM

It does rhyme with ''He'll harm ya!''

He'll harm ya!
Snake Char-ma!

Kronos 10-20-2005 01:45 PM

Mmmm, There's just the slight problem of the Y...

I think he painted himself into corner with that title when it came to a rhyme.

Good job he didn't write a song about an orange, or porridge - then even he would have come unstuck

It's just that line i don't like

Kronos 10-20-2005 02:22 PM
It's just that line i don't like
Would you prefer
"Sing me a song, even though you ain't a singer!"?:)

shadow_stalker 10-20-2005 02:29 PM

I would prefer it if they cut the line out all together, the line makes sense its jsut so...

Kronos 10-20-2005 02:37 PM

.....naff?

shadow_stalker 10-20-2005 02:52 PM

Yeah something like that

where is Josh these days? havnt seen him around in a looooooooooooong time

rippa32 10-21-2005 03:52 AM

Yes thats true. He didnt get banned again did he.

shadow_stalker 10-21-2005 06:28 AM

Don't think so, he just dissapeard one day

Brew 10-21-2005 08:14 AM

Last I heard he'd either changed his username or was banned.

Fun Dio Fact: When he was in Elf, he was the tallest member.

That's because all the others were real elves, silly.

Brew 10-21-2005 08:49 AM

They were talented Elves.

Kronos 10-21-2005 08:55 AM
They were talented Elves.
But one awful day, the most talented one screwed them over for a better deal - a chance to play with the God Of The Six String himself, in the Big Rainbow castle in the sky.....

And they faded into obscurity.....

rippa32 10-22-2005 12:40 AM

Speaking of Rainbow, I got Rainbows Long Live Rock 'n' Roll album today. Ive only listened to it once through but Im really liking it. Brum do you have the Rainbow albums on vinyl?

Brew 10-22-2005 05:07 AM

My Uncle has Rainbow and Rising on vinyl, I borrowed them and copied them to cd a few months ago.

I came very close to buying my own copy of Rising on vinyl not so long ago, I found a near-mint condition 2nd hand copy of it on gatefold.

I have my new camera, so more pics of my vinyl collection will be here soon :)

rippa32 10-22-2005 06:21 AM

Oh goody, can I see the the inside of the gatefold of your debut album?

And do you have Long Live Rock 'n' Roll?, because if you don't I suggest looking out for it. The last track is absolutely incredible, sometimes I think Dio's voice sounds better melodic.

shadow_stalker 10-22-2005 06:59 AM
Fun Dio Fact: When he was in Elf, he was the tallest member.
Sad day when Dio is the tallest member of your band

Once i stop twitching over dragonforce i might look into a Dio/Rainbow/Elf album
