My favourite song from Blackwater Park is Bleak.
Quoted for truth. Bleak is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs ever. |

I agree, it's a masterpeice. 1st Opeth song I heard. :thumb: |
Yeah, Darkness Of Greed is the only one here who doesn't realize its greatness.
|
I agree, it's a masterpeice. 1st Opeth song I heard. :thumb:
That's certainly a good place to start. Everyone said Face of Melinda was their best, but I'm still convinced that Bleak is better. |
Well, 2nd best.
Black Rose Immortal cannot be beat. |
That's certainly a good place to start.
Everyone said Face of Melinda was their best, but I'm still convinced that Bleak is better.
Not heard that one. I've only heard the songs from the albums I have - (GR + BWP) (+Black Rose Immortal).
Well, 2nd best. Black Rose Immortal cannot be beat.
Now you see that's the weird thing. The first 2 Opeth songs I downloaded were Bleak and Black Rose Immortal. And to be honest, I hated BRI at 1st, although it was my 1st Opeth experience. It was Bleak that actually got me to buy the albums I have. To be fair, I don't think I've ever listened to BRI all theway through, so I will have to give it another try. |
Well, 2nd best.
Black Rose Immortal cannot be beat.
Ahhh, the song off of Morningrise? I haven't heard anything off of that album yet, but it got a 5 star rating on sputnik. |
Well, 2nd best.
Black Rose Immortal cannot be beat.
Good song, but I think Advent, Nectar, and To Bid You Farewell are the highlights Morningrise. |
I agree, it's a masterpeice. 1st Opeth song I heard. :thumb:
Those songs almost always end up being favourites :) One of the reasons I love The Drapery Falls, it was one of the first few I heard. I must admit though, I'm in love with Patterns In The Ivy 1 and 2, I think they're absolutely beautiful. |
Good song, but I think Advent, Nectar, and To Bid You Farewell are the highlights Morningrise.
I can understand Advent and TBYF, but Nectar? Come on, Black Rose Immortal and TNATSW are both better... ...IMO |
First Opeth song I heard was Advent... heh, I guess it makes sense why I like it so much.
|
I can understand Advent and TBYF, but Nectar? Come on, Black Rose Immortal and TNATSW are both better...
...IMO
The bass playing in Nectar, and the lyrics. |
I'm planning to get Still Life or Blackwater Park next. Which one do you think I should get?
Off each album I have heard The Moor and Blackwater Park and I love both songs so I can't decide which album to get. Help? |
Doesn't really matter too much they both kick major ***. Just pick either.
|
yah just buy both although blackwater park is slightly better still life is not far off it is amazing as well. trust me u will not be dissappointed. and about black rose immortal. yes it is a great song but u will realize that when u truly get into opeth. u have to get used to their sound. for right now just listen to the shorter songs. that's what happened to me with leper affinity. i didn't like it much but i heard it again eventually and i realized how great that song is.

All Opeth = Good opeth
I love every second. |

The fact that it's got an eerie story as a concept makes it even better. The Moor is one of THE MOST butt-kicking intro tracks ever, and Face of Melinda owns everything. |
My tickets arrived in the mail today for the Philly show on Halloween. Pwn!

I sawe them 2 weeks ago, and interacted with Mikeal, pwn!

You ready for a long list provided by Opeth mad fans? I'l say 2 songs. Bleak Blackwater Park Both from the album "Blackwater Park". |
Is opeth any good live? I can see them as they are playing pretty near where I live but I think i need to listen to them for a bit more first anyone got any good songs to listen to by them?
|
God damn yes. I saw them on SOTU, incredible. Probably the best hour of my life. I met them to. :D
Yeah, Darkness Of Greed is the only one here who doesn't realize its greatness.
Those clean vocals that follow the first growls are so damn annoying... But the rest of the song is decent. Blackwater Park was the first I heard, and The Drapery Falls was my first favorite. Now I think The Leper Affinity or Blackwater Park are my favorite songs. |

For more tracks similar to that, try perhaps The Drapery Falls. Deliverance is another good track. To give you a feel for their diversity, perhaps get yourself Patterns in the Ivy, and Patterns in the Ivy II. Both short, acoustic, beautiful songs. Short by Opeth standards anyway. Black Rose Immortal is another top suggestion. It's 20 minutes long, but pure gold. |

:naughty: So what are you changing your avatar to? |
What..? I just don't like those vocals in that one part of that one song. Geez.
Opeth is my 2nd favorite band of all time. |

Be warned that very few of their songs are as easy to listen to (for the uninitiated) as TBYF. They do lots and lots of 'cookie monster' vocals. This is assuming you aren't into metal. For their softer stuff, check out all of the album D amnation, Reqiuem, Silhouette, Madrigal, Face of Melinda, Benighted, Patterns in the Ivy, Harvest, Isolation Years, Atonement, and Hours of Wealth. For general recommendations, listen to everyone else. |
*finally listened to Blackwater Park yesterday*
Is it just me, or is Bleak one of the best songs ever made?
That song is memorable, isn't it? I listened to that song every day on the way to work for like 4 months straight. I might go listen to it now :) |
Who's number one? :)
Tool. :thumb: |

:( I'm sorry. I was never much on Tool. I'd take Opeth over tham any day, but I respect Tool at least.

I connect with Tools music more then anyother, so their kinda special to me. :D Opeth to. |
I like Tool, but I don't have any of their albums or anything. I might get one now that I think about it... Darkness, what would you suggest?
|
Lots of people say Ænima is the best one to get first, it has some progression in it, but its not a prog album (IMO). If you want something heavy/dark, get Undertow and if you want a prog album, get Lateralus (my favorite record of all time..).
|
Perhaps I should start with Ænima then. Then progress. I think I have some songs from that album at home already anyway.
