Apocalyptic Raids 05-05-2006 09:22 PM
In regard to the mediocre bands, I may only like the exceptional ones. If I hear a band like Hammerfall or a Rhapsody ripoff, I can never enjoy it.
I'm much the same, although even some of the more highly regarded bands I'm not really a fan of.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 10:54 PM

There's a ton of great bands, but even more knockoff bands...

Riva 05-05-2006 11:01 PM

Yeah, but every genre has their knockoffs and imitations.

Synthetical 05-05-2006 11:57 PM

I'm not one to name a certain genre my favorite, and although there are alot of ripoff power metal bands, like you guys have said, the majority of the music I listen to is power metal, and I listen to alot of music.

Riva 05-05-2006 11:58 PM

I listen to a lot of power metal and folk metal these days. It's pretty much overtaken my classic metal. It'll never overtake Pink Floyd though.

Welcome to the forums, anyway. You've made the right choice in posting in this thread.

What're your favourite bands?

Synthetical 05-06-2006 12:02 AM

Nightwish and Sentenced are my all time favorites. Epica too, just because there so damn different, I'll be suprised if anyone has heard of Epica though.

Thanks for the welcome by the way, you guys are damn friendly here.

Riva 05-06-2006 12:09 AM

Epica are relatively well-known. I personally have heard Consign To Oblivion. I see you like female fronted bands. I'm not too fond of them, though I've heard enough. I like them somewhat, Nightwish and After Forever more than most, but the only band I really enjoy operatic female vocals in is Therion, which has plenty of different vocals also.

And it's kind of my job to be friendly. :)

Slapping Penguin 05-06-2006 12:12 AM

Yeah and then when you turn your back he'll put a knife in it! RUN RUN RUN!

Synthetical 05-06-2006 12:19 AM

I'm impressed. I have a couple Therion CD's and 3 Epica CD's. And yes, I do like female fronted metal bands, and my Megadeth and Iron maiden friends think I'm crazy because of it. Therion is pretty good, but its one of those bands I only like a few songs off the CDs from. You've only heard songs off Consign to Oblivion? I like there older ones better. A good one is Cry for the moon.

If you want a link to the cry for the moon video, I can post it if interested.

Riva 05-06-2006 12:24 AM

Alright. I'll check out their earlier stuff.

Synthetical 05-06-2006 12:29 AM

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7765393167086510999&q=epica

Its a recording of the song, its pretty sweet because they have the whole choir and all of there orchestra there, when in there music videos and live performences they don't.

I gott say that video is basically awesome. That chick can sing. I've heard of Epica but i had never really heard them before that video. I only know of them from Simone's work in Kamelot. I'll definitley look into getting some because I really liked what I heard.

Slapping Penguin 05-06-2006 02:02 AM

She was hot too :naughty:

Apocalyptic Raids 05-06-2006 02:04 AM

Epica has the red-headed girl, right? Maaaan she is hot.

Synthetical 05-06-2006 02:21 AM

Her name is Simone Simmons (Sim-own, I think.) And she took Classical singing lessons because of Nightwish and Tarja Turunen (former lead singer of Nightwish). And yeah, shes damn hot, and I have a thing for redheads. I found em because of Kamelot too, I do my research on the bands I listen to.

I like Yves to, the bassist with the goatee, he just givers'r.

ACircuitShock 05-06-2006 02:22 AM

^ Hell ya she is. I just found out that Kamelot and Epica are coming to Seattle Oct 6th. I am definitley freaking going.

Lord Abortion 05-06-2006 04:57 AM
just general metal, we play Maiden, iced earth, metallica...

Trev 05-06-2006 06:30 AM

^Yeah, I got shivers down my spine when Edguy first came on the stage and started playing that song. :)

Txus 05-06-2006 06:54 AM

I'm listening to the album "Hellfire Club" at the moment which I bought yesterday, this is an amazing album I got to say.

NP: Edguy - Lucifer In Love

Stormrider 05-06-2006 06:57 AM

Edguy are awsome. I don't know how many times in here that I said I still havnt gotten Hellfire Club :p

Stormrider 05-06-2006 09:56 AM

I've seen it lots fo tiems in stores...alogn with Mandrake and Theatre of Salvation. And another one, maybe Savage Poetry or something. I don't remember. Saw the DVD a few times as well.

Txus 05-06-2006 10:03 AM

Hey, I want to buy more DVD's because I'm doing a small music DVD collection and I just realized that I don't have any PM DVD. Just 1 Rata Blanca DVD.

Can someone recommend me some good PM dvd's....

Stormrider 05-06-2006 10:04 AM

My dad has ordered Imaginations Through the Looking Glass :)

Although I havn't seen it, you can get that one if you like Blind Guardian.

Txus 05-06-2006 10:05 AM

I saw a Stratovarius DVD in stores a couple of weeks ago, is it any good? I have no idea how it was called though.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2006 11:33 AM
Epica talk
I never really found anything special about them...they're a good band, but they don't really have any originality. An After Forever knockoff, almost, although that may be because their songwriter was a former AF member...:p

I want to go to the Kamelot/Epica show though. That would be sweet.

Synthetical 05-06-2006 01:04 PM

I feel the exact same way with you, Shattered. But the bands in different places, After Forever has never really thrilled me, they are a good band, but I just like Epica alot more. Personal preference. Your lucky though, the closest Epica and Kamelot are comming to me is a few provinces over. Ahh, nobody good ever comes down here.

Stormrider 05-06-2006 01:43 PM

Kamelot are coming here here sometime soon....

shadow_stalker 05-06-2006 05:32 PM

Kamelot are coming to play a show in England...oh wait, no they arent :upset:

Lord Abortion 05-06-2006 05:55 PM

Cool song. Incidentally, what Therion albums do you have?

Do you like Within Temptation? I saw an album of theirs at a record store, and they definitely look like an After Forever knock-off.

Lord Abortion 05-06-2006 07:04 PM
Do you like Within Temptation? I saw an album of theirs at a record store, and they definitely look like an After Forever knock-off.
It's more like the other way round, WT are a gothic metal band, and are much better known worldwide than After Forever

Riva 05-06-2006 07:14 PM

Gothic metal ftl, you mean. :p

Shattered_Future 05-06-2006 07:50 PM
Do you like Within Temptation? I saw an album of theirs at a record store, and they definitely look like an After Forever knock-off.
Don't get me started on them...

Let's just say they have no originality, no writing skills, and basically a lack of everything that makes a band a band.

Riva 05-06-2006 07:55 PM

Ah good thing I didn't buy it then. I wasn't really tempted though.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2006 08:58 PM
Ah good thing I didn't buy it then. I wasn't really tempted though.
Which album, mind you?
Ah good thing I didn't buy it then. I wasn't really tempted though.
Lol, Within Temptation.

I get it.

I don't mind them much..

Never heard after forever though.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2006 10:41 PM

Think Within Temptation, just better in every single way possible.

Synthetical 05-06-2006 11:16 PM

"Cool song. Incidentally, what Therion albums do you have?"

Sirius B and Lemuria, Riva - They came together in a dual CD pack, pretty cheap too so I grabbed it, in this small city we only have one good music store and all the good metal bands can rack up to about $40. Rhapsody CD cost me that. Therion pack was only about $20.

While Britany Spears and Eminem go for $12...
