I'm on AIM right now. I've been playing for about 5 years and will be majoring in jazz guitar in college, so I at least know the basics.
Wow...we've been playing the same amount of time. You totally own me though.

Shadows 08-09-2007 12:13 AM
Wow...we've been playing the same amount of time. You totally own me though.
If we've been playing for just as long, I seriously doubt I own you. :p

pate 08-09-2007 12:17 AM

You seem to spend a lot more time practicing than I do. I don't seriously practice a whole lot. I usually just write ****.

Angmar 08-09-2007 12:22 AM

I like your album pate, you just sing real monotonously. =P

pate 08-09-2007 12:23 AM

Haha I know. My vocals are fine until I turn the mic on, then I get all uncomfortable. :(

Thanks though. :p

Angmar 08-09-2007 12:24 AM

Hmm, you guys even gona get enough people for live shows?
/is on a realy crap computer and has to wait like 5 seconds to use the same key twice so my typing is bad ok.

i am the robots 08-09-2007 12:25 AM

I used to be like that, just record drunk until you get over it, or take some Xanax and then record.

Angmar 08-09-2007 12:26 AM

Yeah you could be like lord worm, only decent performence vocaly was while drunk.

pate 08-09-2007 12:27 AM

We hope.
I used to be like that, just record drunk until you get over it, or take some Xanax and then record.
I thought of that, or recording them while driving. I always sound great then.

In that case, I may have more technical ability, but you're probably much more creative and varied in your playing.

Anyway, I couldn't record anything right now, even if I wanted. I missed playing completely yesterday because of various ****, so I'll be a tad rusty.

i am the robots 08-09-2007 12:43 AM

Shadows, I = Eleventeen, I just read your rep.

Shadows 08-09-2007 12:44 AM

Oh wow, I had no idea it was you! :p Sorry, that explains a lot.
hahaha bands don't get **** from sales usually anyways. as far as i know most bands make their cut by touring and selling merch.
They may not get anything but the label does. The label uses (some) of that money to finance the recording of the next album. And you are very wrong about touring. With the exception of the likes of Metallica, no one makes money touring. Bands tour to increase album sales. If you don't believe me, why don't you pop over to the Derek Roddy board and ask him why he doesn't tour anymore, and how far $1000 a night goes between 4 band members + crew, equipment hire, van hire, flights, petrol, food etc etc etc et fcuking etcetera. Yes merchandise helps but again unless you're Maiden how much do you think you would actually make off 5 tshirts a night?
unless you're selling millions, some kids downloading your **** won't really have an effect on your income.
Bollocks. Double fcuking crappy bollocks. It's killing the small labels. I know lots of people who run small labels and everytime an album is shared (and then subsequently stolen by leeching, pikey theiving sh1theads on soulseek) it completely fcuks them over. They're barely able to cover costs let alone invest in new bands.

Then take the medium independents, none of them are taking any chances. When was the last time Metal Blade etc signed a demo band who wasn't part of the latest trend? They now only sign established bands (eg Primordial - established for what 15 years?) or total fcuckin trend bollocks eg the next slipknot.

They said home taping would kill music but they were wrong because tapes were crap, bad sound quality, inconvenient etc but mp3-sharing will destroy the music you claim to love. Unless you're Dargon and hate anything that was recorded in a proper studio and distributed properly then you have no fcucking excuse.

And as for small bands well take this example, my old band released an EP in 1999. The EP sold well and completely financed the recording of the second EP at a professional studio (Academy Studios with Mags [Solstice, Primordial, My Dying Bride, Bal Sagoth etc] producing. The second EP was much better, gained great reviews, the buzz was much bigger, more people came to the shows (enough at times that we actually covered petrol and van hire) but yet didn't sell as many. What happened? 3 years and P2P.

Argue all you want but deep down you know you're a theiving ****.

masscows 08-09-2007 08:00 AM

Jondur, what's your band's name?

mryrtmrnfoxxxy 08-09-2007 08:19 AM

I love people who say they listen to death metal but when i ask what bands they say something like: "oh you know, slipknot, mushroomhead, metallica, rammstein..." and then they don't listen when i tell them that it's not death metal..

Dargon 08-09-2007 08:48 AM

Ouch, Jondur is mad. :(

Bloodbath is accessible retro death metal. gay.

Jondur 08-09-2007 08:56 AM
Jondur, what's your band's name?
It was an old band called Unsilence (www.unsilence.co.uk) - epic doom

I was also in The River (www.doomriver.co.uk) - bass-heavy doom metal with female vocals

Both have MySpace pages but that's ghey.

And Dargon: You know how much this type of thing bothers me. By all means download old demos and out of print stuff. I was downloading various old Swedish death metal demos last night. But downloading commercially available music is theft, plain and simple. Anyway I'm off on a trip now so you have the whole weekend to call me names.

Dargon 08-09-2007 08:58 AM

Wait, look in the Stoner/Doom thread!

Anyways I'm pretty much only interested in demos and old OOP albums, so I'm safe from the wrath of the Jon.
Wait, look in the Stoner/Doom thread!
Did do. Anyway I'm here for about an hour still but was doing the old 'pretend I'm gone but hide to catch people calling me names' trick.

Dargon 08-09-2007 10:33 AM

I'm browsing through my vast collection and listening to all the old demos I've downloaded. There are definitely some gems.

repcak 08-09-2007 11:57 AM

i just read the last 3 pages.... haven't been here for a long time.

recording: i just wanted to record some songs i've learnt, but with a headset microphone it sounds so awful and i still have made some mistakes. i always get nervous when i plug in my mic.

samer here. i have no interest in buying albums like massacre's from beyond when its not that commercially available and i can just d/l.

Sure I do. I can't afford to pay upwards of 30 dollars for every limited print album I enjoy, nor can I afford to import them. I buy what I can, I said that.

Moon Flavor 08-09-2007 01:29 PM

I steal and I admit it o_O

LifeInABox 08-09-2007 01:30 PM

I just ask Kylan if he has it if I can't find it :p
