Let's take a vote.

Does DEP suck balls?

Yes or No.

I say yes!

Monticello 10-16-2007 02:39 PM

Old DEP no,
New DEP yes!

Tyler 10-16-2007 02:40 PM

all pre-Ire Works = YES

Ire Works will be better than people expect but ultimately disappointing.

my thoughts exactly

RouteOne 10-16-2007 03:02 PM

Well, DEP does have some interesting parts to their songs, but I just can't get past the sub-par vox.

Tyler 10-16-2007 03:05 PM

Greg is a decent vocalist but his vocals are way too apparent in the mix. Dmitri's were just another layer as opposed to him being a 'lead vocalist'.

Thor 10-16-2007 03:07 PM

I thought Lurch was a solid song. Pretty "standard" DEP though.

Tyler 10-16-2007 03:09 PM

it tries way too hard, it's a pretty bland song with lots of needless guitar wank on top of it.

Thor 10-16-2007 03:11 PM

I thought it sounded like alot of their other stuff at a first glance, but whatever. I still liked it.

Skyler 10-16-2007 03:18 PM

The new songs are decent. DEP is pretty much fucked for the rest of their existence though, because people are always going to be comparing their new material to Calculating Infinity, which they will never achieve again.

Thor 10-16-2007 03:22 PM

And people won't like them as much since Chris Pennie left.

Tyler 10-16-2007 03:24 PM

well, Chris did write a huge chunk of the material. Gil is doing find as a drummer but they clearly need Chris to write. I think Chris had a hand in at least some of the album though so we'll see.

Thor 10-16-2007 03:29 PM

Yeah he was still playing with them when I saw some youtube vid of them rehearsing.
Old DEP no,

This. Everything after Calculating Infinity sucked.
The new songs are decent. DEP is pretty much fucked for the rest of their existence though, because people are always going to be comparing their new material to Calculating Infinity, which they will never achieve again.
This because it is true, unless they heard Miss Machine first and never experienced Calculating Infinity. Then, the listener sucks, period.
And people won't like them as much since Chris Pennie left.
This because Pennie was an absolute beast of a drummer.

LifeInABox 10-16-2007 03:34 PM
oh yeah. I get them mixed up, nevermind.

DEP rules, even though Ire Works will probably be disappointing.
Srsly, if you are ragging on DEP, you either

a.) Probably don't like metal
b.) Like poopty metal
or
C.) Are just really stupid

Nothing else to it. No Eleventeen, they aren't "boring drawn out "dissodant" music", considering they were one of the first bands to play their style of music.

Tyler 10-16-2007 03:35 PM

I meant all pre-Ire Works YES as in I really liked it.
This because Pennie was an absolute beast of a drummer.
Gil is technically proficient too, about equally I'd say. Less precise more fluid.

lol

Thor 10-16-2007 03:38 PM

Hbp, if people don't like DEP that doesn't mean they're stupid. They're not exactly the easiest band to get into. It took me multiple listens to really get into Calculating Infinity.

yeah and lol at dissodance

Eliminator 10-16-2007 03:40 PM

no way guys they were the first boring dissonant band

encmetalhead 10-16-2007 03:49 PM

Eh, I am not too familiar with Gil's work, and I have yet to listen to the new song that they have released, so I really could not tell you what I think of him.

Chris Pennie is just...Chris Pennie. :p

Thor 10-16-2007 03:53 PM

Pennie was great, though some of his solo videos are kind of obnoxious. He's really talented, but they just didn't appeal to me at all.

RouteOne 10-16-2007 03:54 PM

Yeah just listened to Lurch. Nothing interesting. They need a new approach to their music.

Thor 10-16-2007 03:57 PM

It'd be awesome if they made more stuff like "Phone Home".

Tyler 10-16-2007 03:58 PM

Have you guys heard Black Bubble Gum? It's pretty cool. Definitely the most straight-forward song they've ever done but the hooks are pretty solid.

didn't you join after my name change?

and while we're on the topic of DEP apparently being good, IT DWELLS INSIDE IS SICK BROS
Pennie was great, though some of his solo videos are kind of obnoxious. He's really talented, but they just didn't appeal to me at all.
Well, solo drums are not always the most entertaining solos to watch. :)

This exactly. I also think Gil is the better drummer even though Chris suits the band much better, musically.
