Anyone know of any bands similar to Opeth's acoustic/clean stuff? I know there won't be many bands that sound even close to Opeth, but I want some of the closest suggestions possible :thumb:

Maybe some stuff by Suidakra. |
From the MP3s listed on their website, they are nothing like Opeth in any way.

They have some acoustic stuff, i'll see if i upload some for you. |
Oh cool :)
|
for Opeth sounding stuff:
Katatonia Porcupine Tree Agalloch |
I know those bands and like all three, but I am looking for some clean or acoustic groups or songs that have that dark quality to them like Opeth has.
|
^
you can try some Dissilusion as well, but Opeth's style is so unique that it's very hard to come up with similair bands np: Borknagar - To Mount And Rove |
I posted a song that was a 20 minute Opethesque epic by Soundsleep. One of the guys in that band posted his band's song on the Opeth forums ages ago. It has some very nice acoustic breaks like Opeth.
http://www.mikseri.net/artists/?id=37808 Here is a site with 3 of their 4 songs that I have of them. All 3 are prog rock and AWESOME. They don't compare with Opeth's acoustic stuff style wise, but I would buy anything if Soundsleep released anything. But as far as I know, it's just some band that probably won't go anywhere. :( I suggest anyone in this thread to at least download "Amity Between Life and Death" PS- Seriously this band pwns music really well. |
^ I really like that band. I need to find a way to get ahole of any releases they have.

I've heard a band called Novembre have a sound similar to Opeth, haven't checked them out yet though |
Novembre is quite similar to Opeth, though not nearly as good, if you're looking for bands similar to Opeth my suggestions would be Novembre, Farmakon, and April Ethereal.
|
April Ethereal is a song on My Arms, Your Hearse. Are you sure that is a band?
I am downloading an album by Novembre right now. I will let you know what I think soon. I can't find any Farmakon releases on Soulseek though. EDIT: Nevermind about April Ethereal http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=6401 |
Ok, I really like Novembre. This is similar to the stuff I was looking for. I still can't find anyhting by Farmakon or April Ethereal on Soulseek.

I have just one more song from them :(. It is exactly like Opeth. The 20mb upload pwns my machine though, so be patient. I searched the internet far and wide for more releases, but nope... just 4 songs. |
April Ethereal? And they sound like Opeth? Well, the name couldn't have been taken from the song since MAYH was released in 1998 and the band started in 1996. They actually started a year after Opeth released Orchid. I want to hear some of this bands earlier stuff, it would be really weird if Opeth and these guys developed the same sound concurrently.

What album should I get next? I just bought Blackwater Park and ****ation. They both kick ***.
|
Still Life or Deliverance... Or My Arms, Your Hearse.
|
@Shazzam-You should get Still Life next, no competition. Still Life and Blackwater Park are their best two, IMO.
That might change after August 30th though. I've only heard TGC and GOP. GOP kicks LOADS of ***. |
Still Life or Morningrise. Still Life is better as a whole album, and as individual songs, with a great balance of heavy to light moments. Morningrise has killer dual guitar riffs with all songs being over ten minutes long (with Black Rose Immortal being over twenty[!]).
|
Morningrise. For sure.
|
Ughh, I forgot about Morningrise. Brilliant album. Black Rose Immortal and To Bid You Farewell are two of my favorite Opeth songs.
|
i saw opeth in edmonton, for the sounds of the underground tour recently. some f*cker threw a beer at the singer while he was adressing the crowd. crazy canadians. :P
|
You wouldn't happen to know their setlist would you?
