BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-23-2004 07:43 PM

They are classic rock......

Woodstock 08-23-2004 07:43 PM

Yes, they do. But I dont think anyone else likes them that much in this thread.

jpj 08-23-2004 07:45 PM

aww to bad

Woodstock 08-23-2004 07:46 PM

I like um though. Sweet Leaf and War Pigs are amazing songs.

jpj 08-23-2004 07:47 PM

hell yeah i just listened to them on the live reunion cd

NsD 08-23-2004 07:49 PM

This is only my first post ever, and Sabbath rocks. With a guy in ur band named Geezer, you gotta be good, right? But I'm not sure if I would label them as strictly classic rock, more like 70's metal. At the time it was all about disco so I would label them more as Classic Metal. LOL i dunno if thats stupid or not, it probably is, but you know, thats what i think.

jpj 08-23-2004 07:50 PM

do you like them better with or without ozzy

NsD 08-23-2004 07:51 PM

hmm... with ozzy. i mean, you just didn't get that certain feel without ozzy.

Woodstock 08-23-2004 07:52 PM

No. No. No. They are not metal, they are classic rock and what does disco have to do with it?

Btw, they're not Black Sabbath without Ozzy :D

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-23-2004 07:53 PM

They were way better with Ozzy

jpj 08-23-2004 07:53 PM

i agree i love ozzy's voice especially when he does that creepy laugh thing

Woodstock 08-23-2004 07:55 PM

The tone of his voice was meant for that band, and no one elses.

NsD 08-23-2004 07:55 PM

Ah, nothing really. I was just stating the fact that at the time they were popular, the music that was big at the time was very.. uh... fruity. so black sabbath was very different and their music was hard, if that makes sense.

NsD 08-23-2004 07:57 PM

alright well off the topic of black sabbath, who did u guys like more... rhodes or iommi?

jpj 08-23-2004 07:58 PM

iommi

Woodstock 08-23-2004 07:58 PM

A lot of great bands were around during the disco era. Zeppelin, The Who

Iommi. Way more original. He pulled off the perfect dark tone on his guitar.

good point, but in my point of view, black sabbath probably made the darkest music at the time. u know? i mean, i love led zeppelin, and the who and whatnot, but they weren't as hard as black sabbath for their time period.

yeah, i'd have to agree with iommi. but i still think rhodes isn't that far behind him :D

jpj 08-23-2004 08:01 PM

we could talk about zeppelin, or has that also been overly done on this thread?

Woodstock 08-23-2004 08:03 PM

Black Sabbath weren't really heavy in my opinion. They just droned their sound and used a lot of flats.

NsD 08-23-2004 08:04 PM

good point.

I love Zeppelin, but I have a feeling most people in here won't want to talk about them, but we really don't bring them up that often, especially compared to the Allmans  . Plus it's a new fad for some people to not like Led Zeppelin.

The Zeppelin Dvd is amazing though.

jpj 08-23-2004 08:10 PM

yeah i've watched like 3 times it's what made me get into zeppelin

Woodstock 08-23-2004 08:10 PM

I still like them, but I dont worship them anymore.

Spectacular DVD especially with DTS sound :thumb:

NsD 08-23-2004 08:13 PM

yeah, i think they are great and everything, but led zeppelin opened me up to different bands.

The DVD is incredible. i love watching moby dick, even if it is a drum solo :D

jpj 08-23-2004 08:15 PM

same here. after i was introduced to them i started listening to other classic rock

lunch998 08-23-2004 08:15 PM

They are the reason that I first got into classic rock, so it's hard for them not be my favorite band. I think people judge them too much, like saying Clapton(or whoever) is so much better than Jimmy Page. I would agree with that but Jimmy never said he was the best guitarist ever, and Zep still made great music. No one in their band is the best, and people shouldn't say they are, but they are all pretty **** good.

Woodstock 08-23-2004 08:17 PM

I used to worship Zeppelin but then I realized that there is so much more out there like the Doors, CSN&Y, Beatles, Who, and the Grateful Dead.

NsD 08-23-2004 08:19 PM

same here. after led zeppelin i went into a lot of yardbirds though. possibly because it had page, clapton, and beck.

jpj 08-23-2004 08:21 PM

anyone have the yardbirds new cd birdland i just got it and it's awesome

lunch998 08-23-2004 08:24 PM

What is your favorite Zeppelin album? I think IV is overrated kind of, just because people look past all their other stuff just for Stairway to Heaven(I hate this **** song). Zeppelin I is probably my favorite.
