Hey guys, which bass would you reccomend for a session bassist?

Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub 4
Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 4
Lakland Skyline Hollowbody 4
Musicman Stingray 4
Warwick Streamer Stage II 5?

Hehe.... knowing how my threads usually go I'll probably have to bump it tomorrow.

PaulR 12-31-2004 02:51 AM

I'm about to go and post in your other thread as well. :)
I'm not sure really, maybe one of the last two?
I was leaning towards the Streamer (used, of course) and my bass teacher told me to try out some Laklands. He recommends them, and Ive played the Joe Osborn and it was really good, very comfortable neck. The problem is its passive. My first choice is the Streamer, then Stingray, then Joe Osborn.

Yeah, two threads in a day is crazyness for me. Hell, two threads in a month is pushing the limits of what I usually do.

So do you want to be a session bass player as you get older?

I'd much prefer to be in a band myself.

Yes, I would like love to do session work. Its so much more fulfilling in my eyes- Not being stuck playing one genre, not need to constantly deal with an annoying member of a band, the challenge. Sure, a band would be fun, but I am mostly intersted in session work.

Saitoku 12-31-2004 03:00 AM

I'm hoping to teach private lessons once I finish my teaching degree.

i reckon that would be an awesome job

coddingtown 12-31-2004 03:02 AM

Session work would be cool, but being in a band and being able to have totally your own style that fits the band would be cool too. Session work can also be limiting, because each person that comes in is going to want a certain style from you. If you are in a band, you get to choose what style you play unless you have some sort of controlling frontman.

I personally would much prefer the band setting.

I think often, you just get given a piece of music and have to play it, I'm not sure how much original input you actually get.

I was thinking about the same thing at one point, but then I felt that a band would be a great adventure. :)

That would be really cool. I give lessons to a friend for free, its kinda fun. :p

I'm really hoping. :) I'll be an English teacher during the school year and a bass teacher during the summers.

blizzard 12-31-2004 03:04 AM

A Band would be great but session work wouldn't be too bad either.

You could be one of the "Cool" teachers at school walking around with a bass and playing that in your spares.

Thats a good point, but NOBODY that I know wants to play the kind of music I would want to play in a bands. They only want to play emo this and pop-punk that, and "No slappng, were not RHCP". Ive tried starting a band and it didnt work...

I was so tempted to take more advantage of that crash to get myself more posts.
